But halal isn't just ordinary meat that's had prayers said over it - I choose not to eat halal because it involves slaughtering animals without stunning them first, causing them both intense fear and pain, which I find morally wrong and won't pay to support.

I saw some videos on how they slaughter animals in the name of halal faith and it is utter cruelty. These animals really suffer for what can be several minutes after their throats are cut open and some animals have their leg tendons cut etc... and are beaten badly before slowly dying. At least a bolt through the head is humane and very fast the animals are not aware of thier lives being drained away. more laws need to be passed to make the suffering of these animals stop.
Halal meat not only tastes better, the animal is treated better when alive, and killed in a more humane way. There is no doubt that halal meat should be labelled. Then muslims can know what they are buying and non-muslims can know that what they are buying is not halal. What is the problem? When a cow is stunned it puts the animal in a permanent coma so it knows or feels nothing about what happens to it next, unlike if you just cut it's throat so it's fully aware of it's blood being drained from it body and I can only imagine the pain and terror it must feel.

idine08...you will never convince me that the animal doesn't suffer...I have video links showing this..It can take up to 10mins for a large animal to die in fear and pain. You mention Tesco sells non-free range eggs. That is not correct though I always make sure my eggs come from a farm where I can see the hens. They all say the same thing their animals are stunned prior to slaughter..They are deceiving us the amperage is very low and only paralyses the animal so it doesn't injure the slaughterer, it does not make it insensible to pain..Don't let any of them fob you off because if the animal is stunned it is NOT halal.

I saw some videos on how they slaughter animals in the name of halal faith and it is utter cruelty. These animals really suffer for what can be several minutes after their throats are cut open and some animals have their leg tendons cut etc... and are beaten badly before slowly dying. At least a bolt through the head is humane and very fast the animals are not aware of thier lives being drained away. more laws need to be passed to make the suffering of these animals stop.

There is no doubt that halal meat should be labelled. Then muslims can know what they are buying and non-muslims can know that what they are buying is not halal. What is the problem? Get the stuff labelled, then we all know what we are eating. DEFRA insider has told me that halal meat is rapidly going mainstream in the UK, so get this problem sorted out now. When a cow is stunned it puts the animal in a permanent coma so it knows or feels nothing about what happens to it next, unlike if you just cut it's throat so it's fully aware of it's blood being drained from it body and I can only imagine the pain and terror it must feel.

Be aware! More and more halal-meat are in our supermarkets. It's usually marked in some way. If uncertain, ask! Do not buy such meat. The animal is slaughtered by slitting it's throat and leaving it to bleed to death. The animal is NOT sedated or stunned. That is a lie! According to halal-rules, the animal MUST be conscious when dying.

Loose Rivet...You say the NZ lamb is stunned...It is called stun to stun. A very low amperage that paralyses the animal so the slaughterer doesn't get hurt. It does not stop the pain or fear. Please don't deceive people on this issue as I have researched it for weeks

You mention Tesco sells non-free range eggs. That is not correct though I always make sure my eggs come from a farm where I can see the hens. Can I point out that two individual scientific studies have found that religious slaughter methods - when done properly - are more humane than traditional ones. After the initial shock the animal should quickly lose conscience as the brain is starved of blood.

I have seen cows, terrified and stressed, beaten onto the blood pooled slaughter floor, at the same time having their achilles tendons slashed with a machete type instrument, to cripple them, then chained upside down and bled to death, taking an eternity to die, up to eight minutes for a large beast.
I have seen a sheep have it's throat slit, then, still standing, an operator slits it's belly and empties the intestine across the floor, still alive.

Demand to know how your meat is produced and slaughtered, why should we be eating meat which has been ritually slaughtered in the name of some moon god. It's cruel and there is no need for halal in the 21st century, If you need halal meat then go back and live in a desert. Before halal meat muslims ate whatever meat was available, it's another statement like the burka - WE ARE HERE!!

What a snotty woman, i wouldn't refund her either. And she doesn't seem to have a problem with the way in which halal meat is prepared, just the way it is labeled. Tesco's have sold Kosher cheesecakes and such for decades, would she like them to have a big yellow star of david on the box?

Simple fact is, Christians don't have any specific rules over eating of meat, Muslims do. So why is there a problem over this? Halal meat is Christian Kryptonite! She just needs to eat her lamb and not get so uppty. This is hardly a religious debate, just plain old religious intolerance....

Actually Christians DO have specific rules about the eating of meat. Leviticus forbids the consumption of pork, shellfish and rabbit... only Christians generally ignore everything from this chapter except the cherished line about man-on-man sex.

@babsieable U clown, there's a market, even in NZ, hence the lamb. It may not all be here but there is a large market for it over here too. It's called catering for consumer needs. Don't be telling me that comments on a youtube page are representative of the UK population. Majority of animals are stunned before slaughter, many of whom die before the slaughter. No type of stunning is permitted for Halal meats. Majority of Muslims don't purchase meat unless it is labeled halal at the very least

I have spoken to head offices of tesco Iceland and Asda. They all say the same thing their animals are stunned prior to slaughter..They are deceiving us the amperage is very low and only paralyses the animal so it doesn't injure the slaughterer, it does not make it insensible to pain..Don't let any of them fob you off because if the animal is stunned it is NOT halal.

As the Islamic population increases....its share of political and economic power likewise increases. That's what secularism does for you...gives you Sharia. We need immigration to be a interdependent economy. Look where Belfast is in terms of the global industry standing, crippled and idle, there's a reason why no one can get a Job there, because industry simply do not like the hostile atmosphere that Catholicism has upon people who are different.

@amaqula unless more people on the planet use contraception there will be nothing left of our planet for any one with in the next 2 hundred years or so.we have all ready lost over 20% of our plant life inclueding trees most animals are on the verg of exstingsion the ice caps are melting beond repair.i have seen for my self what over breeding dose in muslim countries we do not need any advice on that subject when most muslims live in poverty and can not even feed them selvs.
