And u might be waiting for a while ,because there wont be a 450 for the street any time soon, And it don't cost a bundle to hop these bikes up u just need a two bros pipe, a twin air filter and a sprocket , If ya got a few more bucks to spend ya can even get a turbo. That will almost double the hp , but before u do that , just spend the loot and get a rocket
I own a 2010 and a 2011 yz 450f for motocross , and also A 2009 wr250x for the street , good luck if you want to get a motocross bike street legal I know one person that has done it . and it took him over a year , do your self a favor and dont try it , and a wr250x or 250r has plenty of balls for a "get around" bike ...don't knock one till ya try it
im thinking of getting a WR250R but i want to wait and see if yamaha will soon come out with a 450R. a 250 just dosent have enuff balls for me and i dont want to fork out tons of cash trying to boost the hp. I would just buy a WR450F and try to get it street legal but here in florida the people at the dmv are real motherfuckers and they make it almost impossible to get a dirt bike street legal
@alessandrini123 I found the bracket at wheelingcyclesupply(dot)com. I picked up the actual indicators for $15 at my local shop. They were standard stock, and I've dropped the bike and broken one of them... so $15 isn't bad for a replacement cost.
@alessandrini123 That's a good question. I purchased the header and the pipe at the same time. I don't know if the header makes a huge difference, or if the pipe does, but I can absolutely tell you that having both of them on the bike makes a HUGE difference in performance. It really is noticeably stronger with the FMF pipe/header. It also sounds a lot better.
Sorry for the delayed response... youtube linked my account to a google account I don't use... and I didn't realize it. To answer the insurance questions- insurance runs me about $200 a year- not bad at all. I've had zero problems with licensing and insurance. It really is a great bike. I've done a lot of trail riding with it, and I still go to the track, too. (It's nice to ride straight to the trails.) Regarding the carbon fiber indicators... I haven't seen those, but they sound cool.
The rear indicators still look wank, u should get some small bullet carbon fibre ones like i have on my kawi, srsly, makes such a nice difference :) Im thinking about getting a wr250 r so if u could give ur opinion, it would be awesome. Nice bike dude, n thanks in advance
About $4,000 (some of that includes shop fees, though, as I wasn't able to do a number of things myself and had to hire out). I did sell the stock pipe, header, signals and tires on craigslist- so that helped push down the cost a little.
Good question. They are not the same. There are major differences between the two motos. The engine, compression ratio, transmission, suspension, stock tires, and the frame are all different. This makes the WRR very unique from the WRF. Yamaha's website has the specs for both bikes and provides nice comparison info. (Riding both bikes will also provide the information you need to tell the difference between them.)
In my opinion, the wrf is faster on a motocross track, and the wrr is better on the trails. Overall, the wrr is the most well-rounded dual purpose moto I've ever ridden. It does well on the road, on a trail, and at the track.
Absolutely. I think you'll really enjoy the bike your getting. I went with the wrr primarily because the wrf is not able to be legalized for street riding out here... and I wanted to ride to the trails instead of putting the bike in my truck. Happy riding!
my friends xt 225 battery went dead out on the road we just pop started it everytime we had to stop. for people that dont know what that is its when you push the bike as fast as you can or get a buddy to push you and you put the bike in gear and let the clutch out when your moving fast enough and the bike should start.
Actually, I had my mechanic do the mods... and he did take the valve out. However, I should have had him leave the valve in. (I didn't realize it was possible to leave it in... and after writing/reading some reviews on it on thumpertalk... I realized it could be left and should have left it.) Oh, well. :-)
Don't be hatin'! It is a dual purpose... and I believe it's the best dual purpose bike ever put out. If you want to ride pure motocross... get a motocross bike. If you want to have fun at the track... ride some trails... and ride away to a restaurant for a snack when you're all done... get this. On that note... this bike has passed plenty of people at the track. So I say again... don't be hatin'! :^)
Actually, I happen to be 5-7, too. The bike was a little tall for me when I first got it. However, it's designed to be lowered. If you go to thumpertalkcom you can find a post on how to do so and maintain the bike's proper geometry.
WHat do they say? because i would want to use the stock .9 lowering option and in addition to that I would like to use a yammalink to lower it an extra 1 to 1.25 inches. Then it would be doable for me since im only 5'6
I am only 5-7... and the stock lowering option worked fine for me... making sure to adjust the front suspension appropriately, too... to keep the geometry. I've heard the Yamalink is a bit too much and does mess with the proper geometry of the bike. I would check with your mechanic and see what s/he thinks. But try the stock mod, first. With stock tires (which are lower than what I have on there) the stock mod might be all you need.
Hi! Nice bike :) The stock wr250r has 88db (at least on european versjon) And about 100db with the powercore 4. Soon i have the powercore for my own wr250r! I cant wait!
Hi there, oke thanks! 88db is not so hard, but it sounds okay. The older WR's with the 250 engine's produced about 99 db, that was a sweet sound! These new ones are way more meant to be driven for beginners than the older WR250's
That's a good question... I don't know. I can tell you that it sounds significantly different with the FMF, and it "slaps." It sounds nice. (The video doesn't do it justice.)
I do have a K&N air filter... decided to go with the Renthals instead of Pro Tapers... and it's fuel injected... so jetting is not an option. (I've decided not to put a power commander on it and mess with that... too many mixed reviews.) There's always "more" ... that's true... but I think I'm done. It runs great on the road and at the track... and is barely street-legal for Massachusetts.
I just bought a leftover 08 last month and Im thinking of just doing the exhaust for now. Although Im debating the FMFQ4 over the Powercore because here in Massachusetts they can be pretty strict on sound. How is it with the powerbomb header? Is there a decent power increase? Cool bike non the less. Looks good.
I run a martial arts school in Connecticut, but I live in Mass. The bike is licensed in Mass and passed inspection this year with the Powercore on it... so I think you'll be fine. (You're right, by the way, Mass is ridiculous with restrictions.) Anyway, to answer your question... there is a significant power increase with the Powercore. It's noticeable as soon as you get on it.
its not totally tricked out there could be a lot more things like rims, hubs, heavy duty spokes, triple clamp, forks, top end ,bottom end, jets, k&n filter, pro tapers, and even more but its still a nice bike
The tail lights are from wheelingcyclesupply(dot)com and the FMF is from fmfracing(dot)com. I don't know if they ship to Canada... but I'm rather sure they would if you were willing to pay for it. :-)
It was a slow day at the track, and I was able to ask the person at the gate to take a quick video. I was the only one on the track at the time, so the exhaust sound is clear. I just uploaded the video to youtube a minute ago.
Hey man! where did you get the rear lights? I need the low-pro ones bead, I messed the original ones dirtbikig, it would be cool of you hook it up bro.
This site has the kit. Any basic rear directionals should work. (The ones you see on my WR were $30. I've broken both of them off twice... after tossing it at the track... it's nice to be able to replace them cheap.)
Also... for "mcmeniss" ... the same site above is now selling black plastic for the bike.
I did find an article that shows the bike with black plastic. If you go to google and type in "wr250r black" you should see a link (first one when I tried) to some info (and a picture) of the black version. It looks like you might have to have the plastic sent from overseas. (Currently, my radiator guard is being custom manufactured in Australia. Apparently there are more options out of the country.)
I replied a couple weeks ago... but didn't see my reply when I logged in today... so I'm trying again. I did post some more video of the bike. My friend Ryan rode it at the track a couple weeks ago, and I took some video of him. We didn't get a lot of video (sorry). However, my other post does show it a bit more. If you have a hard time picking out the sound... that's because it's slappin' like all the other bikes on the track. :-)
hey man i hella dig what you did to the wr...i bought one a couple of months ago and was just wondering where the hell you got those rear directionals because i've been searching everywhere and can't find any like those....hit me up bra!!!

Can't argue with that, and the YZ is lighter, too. But I couldn't put a license plate on the YZ. That's why I went with the WR250R. After all the mods, I now basically have a fully licensed, street legal, motocross bike. :-)
