It's sad, all these Panigale apologists, making excuses for the piss-poor performance of this since-abandoned frame design. If you wanna piss your hard-earned money away on a failed design, go ahead, that's your right. But you'll sure feel foolish when the next-gen twin-spar frame design comes out, which is what Ducati has prepared for MotoGP. I love Ducatis as much as the next guy. I want this bike to be good. But Ducati failed on this frame design proof is it's embarrassing failure in MotoGP.

@agusta1968 The frameless” design IS taken from Ducati MotoGP program.Ducati tried CF and alum for the box structure between motor and steering head & neither worked out. if you want track rape get a gsx-r if you want a bike with moto gp tech but is still easy to ride on the street get this. ive had a duc before but this bike is like riding a gsx with the duc feel and the vibe of a 90 v twin.
If you want a winning bike, with a proven chassis, consider the Yamaha R1.
It's true what everyone is saying. Ducati fucked up. They used the engine as a stressed member of the chassis. What this means is that the chassis consists of 2 separate parts of totally different stiffness. The more flexible front subframe is connected to a rigid engine with almost no flex at all. Ambitious, but bad design. Maybe they'll change it next year. I'd sit this one out. Any smart person would.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You guys rambling about a bad design don't have a clue what you are talking about. This bike was designed with major input and testing from Troy Bayliss. I will take his experience and Ducati's prowess over your tweet and Gizmag nonsense. So Ducati is having struggles in MotoGP - thats part of racing and how you grow better.
From Loz Bain article where he references the Panegale frame and not the Moto GP Carbon frame
"Any fear that the monocoque chassis might make it unrideable at extreme angles were dispelled by a single tweet from Ducati's legendary retired SBK champion and now test rider Troy Bayliss, who took the Panigale to Mugello and immediately went half a second faster on it than any bike he's ever ridden before. That was in superbike spec - and as Bayliss put it, "in street form, nothing will come close"
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@agusta1968 "Dispelled by a single tweet?" A tweet? Sorry, my research is a bit more extensive than "tweets".
It seems that, while Ducati want to be at the leading edge, the problem is that they have fallen off it. If they wish to retain the huge funding that they enjoy and the huge FOLLOWING that they enjoy, then a complete re-think of the package is essential. Back to basics and make it work.
I agree you should have more than one source for "research". I always wait for multiple rider reports to make a decision.
But whats wrong with a "tweet" ?
Its just another way of communicating. The point is the source of the communication is.
Troy Bayliss.
My point in mentioning the article was someone else seemed to be quoting it to make a point about the Panigale when the points referenced from the article were about the GP bike and not specifically the Panigale
Priceless for a poorly executed, unreadable chassis design that totally failed in MotoGP.
For aggressive street riding or track days on your bike, I'd avoid this one. At extreme lean angles, it's about flex, as suspension is pretty much useless. The prob using the engine as a stressed member of the chassis is that the chassis consists of 2 separate parts of totally different stiffness. The more flexible front subframe is connected to a rigid engine with almost no flex at all. Simply a bad design

@666frostyballs666 Allow me to retort. First, thanks for admitting the bike is too stiff - already a really bad thing, as at extreme lean angles, it's about flex, as suspension is pretty much useless. The prob is using the engine as a stressed member of the chassis. What this means is that the chassis consists of 2 separate parts of totally different stiffness. The more flexible front subframe is connected to a rigid engine with almost no flex at all. Ambitious but bad design

@agusta1968 Wasn't the Loz Blain article for Gizmag?? Probably not a terribly exhaustive analysis, especially since they base their analysis on a "tweet". What do you expect when you write for "Gizmag"?
Yes it was in Gizmag. I don't really know anything about Gizmag, I just googled the technical quotes from another post that was saying the Panigale was a bad design and that Gizmag article came up with matching technical quotes to the post.
BTW I would hope everyone does more research that "Tweets" or YouTube posts
TROLL What the hell are talking about? I never said Canada sold the most bikes just saying it is popular as most of my friends ride here. Bitter? how do you figure since i own a 1098S Tricolore, full race exhaust and quality shift tech carbon parts. I see no reason to bash one or the other seeing as not a single person here including you can ride any Superbike to it's true potential. It's personal taste.
just because we don't ride 365 in Canada doesn't mean riding isn't big industry here, Try going into our GP bikes dealership and tell me that. Judging by your comments you haven't a clue.
I own a 1098S Tricolore with full race exhaust my other bike being a Kawi ninja 636? both great bikes so i'm in a position to give my opinion. What do you ride? Sorry we only get ice/slow over Winter. Are you one of those Americans that assumes we don't have running water?
why do the exhaust have to be on the sides? it's ugly, reduces it's personality and character and most importantly it will burn your legs if you don't avoid it. if it smokes, imagine how ugly it is that the smoke will come from the sides. other than that, everything is perfect.
beside that...the superquadro engine has been engineered to solve that problem, and if u can understand italian and u look at the interview of the general manager of ducati he explicitly says that this bike is the most superbike like ducati ever made. Before to shot sentences on the engineer of a ducati u should inform yourself better. You might be right that compared to a japanese when u corner at max u have not the same stability, but less weight also=faster direction change
if u hate to argue with stupid people like u said in my channel avoid to think...this would avoid to speak to yourself...bet u didnt understand even this!
and u have to put in the market something as fast as japanese but different, with two cylinder without chassis...so u have to work in other ways...how? superquadro, electronic (is full of it), centered mass, link to the suspension for better realease of power etc..let me stress again that this is not valentino like motogp bike but the SBK like bike!!!!! But anyway there are plenty of 4 cents lessons of engineer given on the tube..and stop to vote yourself with faked accounts.
@blau363 c'mon. stop crying now. just not my type, that's all. you like it, i don't. and you thought i vote myself up...hahaha!! i actually have to look back at my comment to actually see how many votes i got. not all minds work like yours and agusta1968. i have better things to do than fool myself. you and agusta1968 should take a break from this for a while.
@blau363 huhuhu!!! you're so pathetic, you stupid idiot. better check again, you pea brained. maybe you're the one whose confused because you're the one who has multiple accounts.
Looks beautiful but leaned over, this bike's chassis proved impossible for even the godlike Valentino Rossi to master in MotoGP. Most bikes have an aluminum twin-spar or double wishbone frame that allows sideways flex. At full lean, the bike twists to deal with bumps. For better airflow, weight dist and chassis tuning, Ducati's monocoque design eliminated the frame. The result is an unreadable chassis. I would not buy this bike. Its fundamental flaw makes it dangerous for its intended use.
@motorcycleronin From what I understand, the Panigale has had it's tyres specially made to suit the chassis. The tyres heat up properly and give good grip and confidence which the Desmosedici failed to do. The Desmosedici has struggled since Moto Gp went to the single tyre rule because they couldn't get specials from Bridgestone anymore. A bike only works well if it's getting the most out of it's tyres and the Panigale doesn't have a problem there. I think the Des would work on custom tyres.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@originalwhit so you are saying that the bike wouldnt work well on another pair of tyres? haha I dont think this is the case. Tyres are preference, Pirelli dunlop..... etc all make wonderful tyres I think it has to do with the rider.
He means Bridgestone used to make special tires specifically for the Ducati GP bike, But the Rules changed since. Now all GP bikes have to use the same tire manufacturer.
Michelin also used to make special tires for the teams they sponsered. The tire was custom built based on data they were getting in testing and was delivered for the race the next day. They changed the rules to stop that too. That being said, your right. Its still the rider, more so than ever
Is this a good beginners bike? I've never ridden a motorcycle, but I can ride my bicycle for about 40 feet without training wheels. It says it has an electronic shifter, right? That means automatic, I hope, because I tried to drive a manual car once and I can't figure the clutch out. I just want something cool to impress ladies. Please help!! My Budget is about $30,000. Which model should I get? Will I be happy without the S package?
My only problem is I ride 365.If i'm going to dump 25k or more I need to know it will be trustworthy and reliable year after year.Trust me I believe this is the most magnificent machine to grace the planet(My opinion).Sure I ride a 08 CBR1000RR and it burns oil,but for 4 years i've had no problems.I don't own a car or truck. My machine needs to get me to work every day,and take the abuse at Deals Gap/Tail of the Dragon.Damn I want this Duc friggen bad!
For what its worth, I've ridden my Multistrada (2005 1000SDS) for the last 3 yrs (I live in Ireland) day-in, day-out, rain sun even a bit of snow and its been basically faultless. If you like the 1199 id say go for it! (I'm personally partial to the looks of the 1198 but i realize thats a personal thing, plus the 1199 is much much more accomplished)
@Kordage Do you mean the 1198/1199? If so, I agree. The 1198 makes the 1199 look like a little pink tricycle. What happened with the tail? On the 10/1198 they had the perfect tail. It looks alot less aggressive.

.....but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt for him because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A Ducati Panigale.
I can see there are 2 Ducatistas: the fanatic no matter what and the other who see a Ducati as Engineering Model.
I am more in the engineering side of it. I want to see a Ducati World Champion but comparing apples with apples (like MotoGP), not like Checa winning a champoinship with a 100cc advantage over the rest (WSBK)
@cla10cla10 What rubbish! How can you compare a twin with a 4-cylinder bike of the same cc. The series is fair. Ducati are just so good in this series. .
hhmm...if you knock the king over it's a resign. Not great PR IMHO. Great F bike tho.

@TheTokyoNoir Watch out guys we got a youtube warrior who thinks he's a MotoGP racer. Seriously, the frame is good enough that you aren't going to be able to push it to even 75% of it's potential.

if you want track rape get a gsx-r if you want a bike with moto gp tech but is still easy to ride on the street get this. ive had a duc before but this bike is like riding a gsx with the duc feel and the vibe of a 90 v twin.

@agusta1968 Wasn't the Loz Blain article for Gizmag?? Probably not a terribly exhaustive analysis, especially since they base their analysis on a "tweet". What do you expect when you write for "Gizmag"?
pepebarretto 1 month ago
@pepebarretto

Kordage 1 month ago
why do the exhaust have to be on the sides? it's ugly, reduces it's personality and character and most importantly it will burn your legs if you don't avoid it. if it smokes, imagine how ugly it is that the smoke will come from the sides. other than that, everything is perfect.

beside that...the superquadro engine has been engineered to solve that problem, and if u can understand italian and u look at the interview of the general manager of ducati he explicitly says that this bike is the most superbike like ducati ever made. Before to shot sentences on the engineer of a ducati u should inform yourself better. You might be right that compared to a japanese when u corner at max u have not the same stability, but less weight also=faster direction change

Its fundamental flaw makes it dangerous for its intended use.
motorcycleronin 1 month ago 15

@motorcycleronin From what I understand, the Panigale has had it's tyres specially made to suit the chassis. The tyres heat up properly and give good grip and confidence which the Desmosedici failed to do. The Desmosedici has struggled since Moto Gp went to the single tyre rule because they couldn't get specials from Bridgestone anymore. A bike only works well if it's getting the most out of it's tyres and the Panigale doesn't have a problem there. I think the Des would work on custom tyres.
