This concert with its geeky German fans and incredible music performance is one of a kind! Knopfler is unreal and the entire band is so tight you would think it was a studio recording....one of the most under rated bands of its era....
Can't believe all these great Straits videos are turning up - it's brilliant to see this version was so filmed. In The Gallery is awesome, as are many of them.... thanks a million for posting this up - made my week! I agree that Withers was a very original drummer and contributed a lot, it's quite incredible to think that it's him on Making Movies as well - rocking like a mutha!
I think Mark would find it difficult to better his own playing in the future, because for me, here, he's unbeatable!
Looping, this is a rare gift! Many many thanks for all the work and time you have put into this. Dire Straits had a special kind of energy and this concert captures them at their leanest and meanest. You are a genius!
@PeterVonRock Looking at this old film, it's clear to me that it's Wither's drumming as much as Knopflers playing and writing that gave them their distinctive sound....and it's very distinctive; they would never sound quite the same after everyone went their own way.
Holy crap, this is freak'n awesome!!!! This was the year I graduated high school, Dire Straits was my fav band that year, and they still are to this day. I never had a chance to see them perform back then, what a treat to see it now. Thanks for posting this!
anyone looking for some dire straits and mark knopfler material which is rare, there is a good DVD site, with some great rare stuff,
w w w . knopfler-dvds . c o m , well worth a look if you like the straits or the knopfler solo stuff. P.S, please DIre Straits to win the Brit Award!
AWESOME :D they did very well, even with those random stuff mark's talking.
Btw, check out 1:06:16 , the guy in the middle is looking on his watch, like 'how long is this gonna take' and then ask it to it's neighbour, who has the typical expresion of 'I dunno, don't care' :D
I agree 100%! Pick Withers' playing is a great part of Dire Straits sound and that's why the songs he played in never sounded as nice played by other drummers later on. It's not just the tempo, It's the notes! Hope he's still drumming...
Oh man I just jizzed my pants this is pure awesomeness Im a big fan of Pick Withers such an under rated drummer in my opinion probably my favorite Straits line up to
my sincere thanks for this post - superb quality - i really enjoy it (even more than the crowd - they look as if the boys are disturbing their coma) - mark and david complement each other so well - and i love the emotion pick displays while he skillfully plays the drums - great stuff
Fantastic -- a complete DS concert! What a treat to sit back & enjoy my favorite group of all times including, of course, the incomparable Mark Knopfler --what a genius! Thank you!

I was 15 years old in 1979 and I'm still fan of Dire Strait today.

Essentially Dire straits is not really DS without Knopfler either. Saw a few members are doing some sort of reunion in May, but Knopfler isn't there.
1978-1985 was just their absolute awesome period:) Thanks Looping for uploading!

So great to see/hear Pick Withers on (Eddy Ryan) drums! Knopfler without him is like Tom Petty without Stan Lynch...

Se agradece por el recital completo, qué mejor que escuchas los primeros 2 discos de esta banda, que sin duda fueron los mejores.
Ese sonido característico que tuvieron durante la primera época, tan limpio, te pone los pelos de punta.
Un saludo!
