  • pick withers stick spin at 5:00..... nice!

  • thanks 4 kickin me back in time!! :)

  • 100 Milhões de copias vendidas não é pra qualquer 1 !!!!

100 Million copies sold is not for any one !!

  • So cool to see Knopfler when he is playing "In The Gallery", excellent stuff! Thanks for sharing this live performance of the best band ever!

  • Ah...back when music was MUSIC

  • Pictures a little fuzzy in places the sounds a little soft but other wise not a bad video.

  • the greatest sound out of a stratocaster and Mark Knopfler is a genius. But I like also the rythm guitar by David

  • Wished they'd do one final world tour, as a group, I'm 15 and love there music, would so go and see them live

  • Great to see THIS again here!

  • thlxxzz

  • Judging by the Likes and Dislikes.. 1 person is an abject idiot.

  • @burnedoutfool maybe tried to learn guitar but failed? jealousy?

  • this was the best line up of the group, Pick Whiters on drums was amazing!

  • @starship21ZNA9 he used to live around here pick....wye valley/forest of dean my friend lives in his cottage when he sessioned at rockfield!

  • These 4 guys are dIRE sTRAITS. This sound was never duplicated by Mark's other drummers or rythm player's

  • He sings like a cross between Bob Dylan and a corpse.

  • @robo9hobo Dylan already sings like a corpse himself hehe

  • MK owns the stratocaster

  • MK's got one of the best vibrato's ever

  • This concert with its geeky German fans and incredible music performance is one of a kind! Knopfler is unreal and the entire band is so tight you would think it was a studio recording....one of the most under rated bands of its era....

  • I was 15 years old in 1979 and I'm still fan of Dire Strait today.

    French Fan

  • Essentially Dire straits is not really DS without Knopfler either. Saw a few members are doing some sort of reunion in May, but Knopfler isn't there.

1978-1985 was just their absolute awesome period:) Thanks Looping for uploading!

  • So great to see/hear Pick Withers on (Eddy Ryan) drums! Knopfler without him is like Tom Petty without Stan Lynch...

  • Can't believe all these great Straits videos are turning up - it's brilliant to see this version was so filmed. In The Gallery is awesome, as are many of them.... thanks a million for posting this up - made my week! I agree that Withers was a very original drummer and contributed a lot, it's quite incredible to think that it's him on Making Movies as well - rocking like a mutha!

I think Mark would find it difficult to better his own playing in the future, because for me, here, he's unbeatable!

  • No fukin way the whole thing no way ...soo cool.

  • Thanks for the concert!!! :D

  • Looping, this is a rare gift! Many many thanks for all the work and time you have put into this. Dire Straits had a special kind of energy and this concert captures them at their leanest and meanest. You are a genius!

  • Just watch (and listen to) Pick Withers here... his drumming is just FANTASTIC!!!

  • @PeterVonRock Looking at this old film, it's clear to me that it's Wither's drumming as much as Knopflers playing and writing that gave them their distinctive sound....and it's very distinctive; they would never sound quite the same after everyone went their own way.

  • @PeterVonRock session drummer at rockfield thats why , he used to live around here hhehe

  • FANTASTIC!!!

Man, Dire Straits is my favorite band, is have an entire show from the late 70's, what a gift.

    Thank you!!!

  • Thank you for de video ;-))

For me, is the best moment of Dire Strait

  • THANK YOU! never seen before.......

  • Se agradece por el recital completo, qué mejor que escuchas los primeros 2 discos de esta banda, que sin duda fueron los mejores.

Ese sonido característico que tuvieron durante la primera época, tan limpio, te pone los pelos de punta.

    Un saludo!

  • big band

  • Holy crap, this is freak'n awesome!!!! This was the year I graduated high school, Dire Straits was my fav band that year, and they still are to this day. I never had a chance to see them perform back then, what a treat to see it now. Thanks for posting this!

  • Great video. It's funny how nervous Knopfler is in the video when he has to talk to the audience compared to now. Thanks so much for posting.

  • This is what youtube is all about! Thank you very much for your work looping, I appreciate it. Dire Straits!

  • this made my day. thank you so much for posting.

  • I love Dire Straits, I only just discovered them a few months ago, all of this was made before i was even born and I'm loving it, very very good!

  • FCKN' AWSOME!!!

  • thank u so much, DS IS THE BEST BAND EVER

  • AWESOME :D they did very well, even with those random stuff mark's talking.

Btw, check out 1:06:16 , the guy in the middle is looking on his watch, like 'how long is this gonna take' and then ask it to it's neighbour, who has the typical expresion of 'I dunno, don't care' :D

Any other suggestions what he's asking ^

  • thank you looping800 =)

    Best wishes

  • Really appreciate this. Wow!

  • I agree 100%! Pick Withers' playing is a great part of Dire Straits sound and that's why the songs he played in never sounded as nice played by other drummers later on. It's not just the tempo, It's the notes! Hope he's still drumming...

  • Oh man I just jizzed my pants this is pure awesomeness Im a big fan of Pick Withers such an under rated drummer in my opinion probably my favorite Straits line up to

  • my sincere thanks for this post - superb quality - i really enjoy it (even more than the crowd - they look as if the boys are disturbing their coma) - mark and david complement each other so well - and i love the emotion pick displays while he skillfully plays the drums - great stuff

  • Fantastic -- a complete DS concert! What a treat to sit back & enjoy my favorite group of all times including, of course, the incomparable Mark Knopfler --what a genius! Thank you!

  • this is GREAT, memories of 30 years ago...where do you think you're going?

  • Pure joy - a very young and dynamic Knopfler at his best!

  • his best, in my opinion, was 12, 15 years ago, by the time que played A Night in London

  • the beginning of a legend....

great Mark, great style :so soft and clean !!!! Magic....

  • @RICCHIDIPUORCO posso chiederti di dove sei?

  • Dire Straits at their beginning. So nice. I wish I had the age to go to concerts at this time. Still I fully enjoy Mark Knopfler's shows today.

Thanks a lot for the post

  • this just made my day, no my week. thank you

  • loved it very much thank you
