My ballistic calculator puts the muzzle energy of the subsonic .50 rounds at roughly 1500 ft. pounds of energy. This is substantially greater than the 89 ft pounds of energy that a subsonic 22 long rifle has. In fact, the 50 has more energy subsonic than a full power 5.56.
lol might as well be a 690 grain airsoft BB at that velocity. As for anyone criticizing the validity I do believe you, Just don't really understand why. Obviously it inst practical to fire anything of that caliber at such a low velocity unless you just want to have fun with reloaded subsonic cartridges and don't want to worry about bore pressure and cleaning. The equivalent of a .22 long only on a larger scale.
@jimmym40a2 by no means a bad thing. If anything this might be the most dare I say "affordable" BMG setup. 50 BMG supply dot com sells APR reloads for about 2.95 a round at 100 round bulk. Its what we buy since our press can't reload the brass. It's about as cheap as they get.
@naireland yet the .50 will still have vastly more stopping power than a .22, it is a large bullet, may not be going fast and will drop like a lead balloon at range but it still will kill something big
@naireland your saying that mass is irrelevant and velocity is the primary factor in ammunition. That certainly isn't the case in the realm of subsonic loads. If you don't want a sonic crack your only option is to stay below the speed of sound, so the only way to increase performance is to increase mass and improve the BC of the bullets. That's the whole point behind cartridges like the 300 blackout, bullets like 147gr 9mm, etc.
Now i will agree that a 50BMG rifle is overbuilt for this.
@naireland you don't want to get hit with a 700gr bullet going 1000 fps. Keep in mind a .45 fires a 230 gr at 950 fps. It's a killer no matter which way you look at it and it's quiet.
i've heard that with the actual sniper/spotter combo, the m200 contains a link with a gps think and the scope it it shows where to aim on the scope...don't believe this>.>
@foxvw Unfortunately he's right. It is. The Cheytac M200 Intervention. However in this case its been chambered in .50BMG, rather than the usual .408 or .375.
i really cant believe this vid, i dont understand how a bullet that large being shot at 1000fps has that much recoil? basic physics just dont add up. im not calling you a liar or anything but it just shocks me. oh and the AP capabilities of the round would not be much use at 1000fps would they
@tbrowniscool Its a big bullet but its also a big gun. with the can you are looking at close to 40 pounds and with the can the recoil is very mild. Its real.......
@medusa210562 people have shot them 1000 yards you need allot of elevation to do it. 690 grains is twice as heavy as a 45 acp and its going faster so it will do some damage.
Its the suppressor. They act as a muzzle brake, redirecting the gases and counteracting recoil. Honestly, the recoil on a .50 BMG with a good brake on the barrel isn't that stiff. Make it subsonic and the recoil in this vid doesn't surprise me.
@tbrowniscool I would imagine that it's probably because the 690 grain bullet still requires allot of pressure to give it the energy required to even accelerate it to subsonic speeds. I would say that the recoil(from what I can see) isn't too bad compared to a 700grain or more supersonic round.
@pluckyou90 depends on how far you are shooting and what you "zero" is. With a hundred yard zero at 150 yards you will have 7.6 inches of drop, at 200 16 inches, at 300 33 inches, at 400 52 inches. So depending on how far you want to shoot you can dial it in on your scope.
@jimmym40a2 Ya I wouldn't think twice about these not being badass rounds btw do you know if a .17 HMR would be suffecient for coyote's under certain circumstances?
@jimmym40a2 i find it soo fucking hard to believe that is a 50cal, Im a US Marine, and have shot an M2 and have compared it too my hand and my hands are not a childs, and a 50.cal cartridge is a bit longer than my hand from wrist to finger, and i do no see this being bigger than your hand at all, and nor is even a 50cal subsonic that quiet when shot with a suppressor i have looked at other videos with sub 50 and they are not that quiet, suppresor is too big also, I CALL BULLSHIT
@RiflemanExpert lol...Its a 50- look at the cases closer. I'm probably bigger than you so it looks smaller. (6'7"-270lbs) My suppressor is better than any in the military. I have seen and fired allot of them. This can is 18 inches long and 3 inches in dia so its very quiet.I have metered it with 2 B7k sound meters using milspec testing and its is very quiet. You can call if fake if you want- but you are wrong.
@RiflemanExpert Your high, just shot my .50 yesterday those sure looked like .50 to me, and you can build your own suppressor as quiet as you want as long as you divert the gasses well enough and you keep the rounds subsonic.
btw you gotta have tiny hands if a .50 cal cartridge was bigger than your hand
I dont know man even though its 690 grains it is still going slow as hell. it is going nearly 3 times slower than normal. a standard velocity 223 is as fast as a 50 or faster. i have shot several suppressed rifles and they arent as quiet as that plus the camera makes it sound completely different, i wouls still have to actually hear it!! 50 bmg at 998 fps is 1550 ft lbs and 223 at 3200 fps is at 1250 ft lbs. so its close
@druemue a 45 is shooting a 230 grain bullet at 850 fps and people think it has knockdown power. Now with 690 grains and 1000fps and more range. Great combo!
a subsonic 50 bmg would be almost pointless.. you can get more power from a standard velocity 223 round. that video cant be real! the rounds must be going less than 600 fps to be that quiet!! it sounds like a 10/22 with anhtg suppressor! I would have to see it to believe it!
the rounds must be going 600 fps because that is rediculous. that is quieter than my suppressed ruger! all you can hear is the bolt drop on my ruger 10/22 with standard velocity rounds through my HTG universal!
@druemue I have shot several HTGs they are good cans. I know the audio on some videos is not real (accurate) but this is. it was filmed with a 4000 dollar camera and the sound is very accurate.
@jimmym40a2 i wouldn't doubt the 1000fps, with the size silencer you have on it, that 35 grains of powder and the muzzle blast it makes would be absorbed fairly quickly. next you should try an 800gr bullet and put it at 1000fps, that'd have some serious penetrating power, and little to no noise.
@druemue with a properly made silencer the only sound you will hear is the action. assuming it's shooting sub sonic. most gun's will have silencers on and then shoot supersonic rounds, which make's alot of noise because the bullet is breaking the sound barrier.
No way....if that is real it is absolutely insane....I can only hope our SF has gotten a fifty this quiet as wel....if not they need to talk to this guy
You are not going to get the same range with subs. You are shooting 1000fps instead of 2700. But for close up stuff where you want to be quiet. it cant be beat.

Fun to shoot....if you have the money for the press, die kits, brass, bullets, powder, etc. :D
Only thing I want to know is how greatly is the performance reduced by making them subsonic? I'm guessing that round drops incredibly quick now
