  • Hey doug2877...is not more powerful with 3 blades?? Thanks

  • LOVE this 1 Doug! Wealth of information that you have provided us with!

  • Maybe it's already been suggested, but the easy way to get this type of turbine back under control is to lasso the tail fin and rotate the entire generator so the blades are 90 degrees to the direction of air flow. Also, don't forget the Loctite on the bolts :-)

  • Grande,ottimo voto.

  • nice :)

  • 2 rubber balls on the end's of 4' of rope works good to stop a turbine. Throw it into the turbine but with caution. May do some damage but could be worse. They are scary when stuff goes wrong. Good video west coast doug

  • Hey Doug, be happy this didn't happen. (place after U-Tube link) /watch?v=WaVyIYotTdI

I know you can't compare the sizes but none the less, a shattered blade in those winds could definitely do some serious damage no matter the size.

  • OH NOES!!! The good news is that you had a great source of wind energy! Too bad that when you want to do some maintenance on the turbine, you need the wind to quit. How ironic.

I got a scare the other day when the wind picked up and the turbine started spinning like it was an aircraft about to take off the pole and fly right at me.... so I know that feeling you had. It's amazing how much power is in the wind.

Sorry you had to cut the cable. Hope you get your turbine back running soon.

  • Its all good no one got hurt, so all an all its ok

  • Note to self: If Doug never posts another video, never stand in the yard next to an unfurled, unrestrained wind turbine during high winds.

  • I know I'm not the safest person in the world, but I have been lucky so far,. I did put my motor cycle helmet on though. That would tell any one who knows me I was scared. Thanks for the comment EDGE, Later

  • LOL... your motorcycle helmet! My wife makes fun of me when I wear safety glasses. Sounds funny, but the helmet is a good idea!

  • Yep it was pretty extreme, funny looking or not. Thanks for the comment field, LATER

  • looks scary as hell omg

  • totally 4-sure

  • did you try putting a tarp in-front of it to stop the wind from hitting it?

  • Good idea but its was to high

  • Why are the titles and descriptions of all your videos always in all-caps?

  • bbbbBECAUSE WE'RE BLIND AND HATE OUR GLASSES.

    SERIOUSLY!

KEEP SMILING AND GOD BLESS YOU.

  • sorry if it bothers you

  • throw some rope into it

  • @

davidrrrd,, I tried to hook it with a rope,,and know I have no idea where it went. Probably on some ones roof. Thanks for the comment.

  • @muddymuddymuddmann, Hey Muddy, haven't seen you around for a while... thought maybe you died on us or something.

  • @GoatHollow Hey G.H.,

I havent been lucky enough to go to heaven yet, except in a dream. Thats another story though. Man that was real! Short but real! Much better than coffee!! How's the new whirly gig going?

  • Hey Doug, You might want to fix the furling mechanism.

The blades are one piece of wood that is real light at the tips. that way it is not going to separate. It scared me the first time i saw them flying that fast. But I wished you got some readings before you cut the wires. Call me tonight or tomorrow.

  • Wwee! Relax I've seen them spin faster than that in real high winds, even shorted out. The bolt should be epoxied and re-tightened though. the other ones will hold. Ozzy told me his sounded like a small helicopter in 85 MPH sustained winds. His is three years old now. we only used ceramic mags in his so shorting doesnt stop it in 20 MPH.

he disabled his furling mechanism by pounding a different tail on the end. He hasnt blown his leds yet. Hope you didnt lose any sleep.

  • At first I plugged it in to two 100 watt bulbs and it did not light them up or slow down. Then I cut the line, sounds like I fried it, what do you think?

  • @doug2877 nNAW!, iTS JUST FINE. tHE BEARINGS ARE 5 INCHES APART AND THE WINDINGS ARE AT 95 OHMS AND 100 OHMS. IT WONT BLOW FROM THE WIND. AND THE DIODE RECTIFIERS ARE 8 AMPS EACH. IT WOULD HAVE TO CRANK OUT 1600 WATTS TO DO THAT. THE ONLY WAY TO BLOW THE DIODES IS HOOK THE LEADS UP BACKWARDS TO THE BATTERIES. LIKE I SAID ON THE PHONE, ITS A ONE PIECE PROP AND LIGHT, IT WONT FLY APART.

THE FIRST 65mph WIND SCARED ME. 3YEARS LATER IVE SEEN 85+MPH. THAT'S 382MPH TIP SPEED. LOL

  • That thing looks like a real threat to aviary wildlife
