@MrJanobala It likely has a limiter, I've heard some say 125 but not sure. Considering Ford marketed this for old people, they figured no one will go 120 with it lol.
@Intechdude300 oh yeah im sure it does, the LS speedometer goes up to 160, but limits it at 140, so its not topped off, this due topped it off at 120 i think.
It's a great car but judging by the RPMs I think there is some sort of trickery afoot and by the noise the engine makes I think he may have the rear end jacked up. And just so you all don't think I'm some doosh I own one and work at the ford dealership in the automall in oly
This was an all stock car. I made an update of a 2002 Continental I later owned where I did a 0-85. I didn't rev it as hard but was about as fast. I did a speedometer view & a backseat view. You'll find it on the search field of my channel
I've only seen my brothers car when he picked it up. He had to go to work so I didn't go for a ride in it yet. This car is mint, and I mean mint condition! Only one owner, an older man 60+ who didn't smoke and never beat on the car. He's friends with the salesman who sold it to my brother. He got it for only $5200!
Anyway, if you could give me any info on this car, I could pass it along to my brother. We'd both really appreciate it. Thanks for all the great videos :)
Thats why I took the Chance, Nobody was there. But I havent gotten anywhere near that speed since, this was like around Late 2006. Actually felt a huge rush, rapid heartbeat, & my hands were trembling somewhat LOL...
I have a 99 love it. you can hit 120 a lot quicker if you put the car in 3 instead of D If the car is in drive it will shift out of 3 rd gear around 100 miles per hour or about 4000rpm. If in 3rd all the time you will fly to 120 just over 5200 rpms in 3rd gear instead of the car being 4th. Your will really notice the difference. I guess its a computer trick. Lets me know what you think.
Well its not something that can be done on a parking lot, so, I guess yeah. But there was absolutely nobody. I was at the end of an Avenue that converts into a 1 mile straight which merges onto major highway route.
town cars are the shit i got a 97 that im workig on and its a mustang gt motor dip shit i could get well over 400++ with a supercharger or just stroke that bad boy out to a 302 and it will haul ass all iv done to mine is a super chip it gots like 233hp im bout to throw some 2000 gt mustang heads and a new intake that should give me around 260 then im gonna put a bigger cam then supercharge it's gonna be a beast for a 2 or 3 ton car
and again, you can't sell something you do not own. Whether it was an $80,000, or $125,000 car, a lease is a lease. You've obviously never gone into debt for any sort of credit in your life. Grow up and come talk to me when you can hold a decent conversation without spewing forth such unintelligable nonsense like "a jag is a jag"... If you've ever even ridden in one , you'd understand there are varying degrees of quality for the price you will pay. For the price, Lincoln wins it.
and by the way you halfwit, mercedes and BMW were holding nationwide supersales during the economic recession these past couple years that included deals like "buy one, get one free" on full price cars ranging all the way up to the 500 class, or ( 5 series BMW's ) Don't try to negate that as I leased my m5 coupe from a US dealership and received the same vehicle, with the same package, free of charge. unfortunately I did not like my M5 and returned, cancelling the lease, and the free car
@Areoplane7 actually , german scientists created over engineered garbage that got out flanked by smaller, cheaper american equipment EVERY TIME. He also fought on two fronts, and sent rommel to africa, then ignored his plea to allow the africa panzer division's retreat... which doomed the african panzers to succumb to a double pincer by british and american troops. I didn't TRADE jack shit, I STOPPED PAYING the LEASE on my bmw, because I found it to be overpriced crap.
Now I drive cheaper used american luxury cars. If you think there is something wrong with them , you must knot know much about how the automotive industry works. Heres a crash course on depreciation. The 98 continental holds the same value as a jaguar xj8, but costs half what a used jaguar does, because of ongoing market trends swaying away from large engine boats like the continental. That means a car that SHOULD be worth $8000-$10,000 are being sold for one quarter of that price...
why do you think germany lost ww2? It wasn't Hitler fighting two fronts, plus africa , like everyone tries to state. It was over engineered farce weapons like the King Tiger, the Panzer and the Panther that ruined Germany's chance at world domination. When something like that breaks down, you can't just whip out the modular engine and replace it... Have you ever owned a bmw? I had an m5 coupe on lease and I dropped it when I realised the repairs would equal the purchase price...
not only that but I've owned GT cobra's that have passed well over the 450 RWHP mark, through supercharging and custom polished heads.... You can take your over-engineered german crap and run it right up your arse cause I refuse to pay double for something thats really only worth half of what a lincoln is in TRUE value. I could slap OAKLEYS on a pair of 2 dollar sunglasses and you'd pay me $260 for them because you think they are somehow worth it.
try pushing an audi the way I did on monday night... it wouldn't pass the 2 hour mandatory endurance test for the arcon big car time trials we hold yearly @ mosport
p.s. with my 4000lbs , 2 ton frame, I STILL get around 16.0 L / 100 kms Which is incredible for a 98 continental with 210,000 kms on it , all original. I beat the shit out of it going 220 km/h the other night, for hours straight. I burned the transmission fluid, but above that all was A-OK with the conti. I can toss this monster around @ 220km/h for 4 hours straight on a race track without damaging it, @ 16 L / 100 km ... if you try to slander this car you are an automotive illiterate.
If you're not aware, this is a FWD Car. Ford Purposely detuned this Engine so it wouldn't murder the transmission.
How can you ask that as it's obvious this engine was used in the Mustang Cobra. Without detuning, this engine normally kicks 320HP. Super Charging over 400+.
British Automaker ( MG ) used an optional 5.0L version of this engine on their (MG XPower SV) sports car. They offered an optional Nitrous kit which gave it 1000HP.
@Intechdude300 can i ask u somethin, can i tune up the car and beef up the engine... pls correct me if im wrong cuz i have little knowledge about cars but, im planning a project of increasing this car's power (hp) and speed... do u think its worthiet?
Barrier here is the Transmission which really wont support much more power as/is but there are mods for the AX4N out there for V8 SHO owners. Keep in Mind the SHO 3.4 V8 is much less powerful. So I have no clue how much stronger can 1 make an AX4N. Stock Torque Converter are junk and R what fail before anything, Planetary Gearsets are Weak. Before beefing the Engine, BEEF up the Transmission. If you don't and only do the Engine, the Fun will be short lived.
yahoo search supercharged lincoln continental. Not that you will find 1 but you will be led to the lincolnvscadillac where you may get ideas on what to do.
u got to confirm the u can mod the engine and tranny cause it's just nowhere near as easy as a mustang or mark
I love this car! My brother just picked up a 2001 with only 76k miles on it! I don't know the name of the color, but it's a light blue with light gray leather interior. It has the alpine system w/ cassette and 6 disc cd, moonroof, adjustable suspension/steering system, bucket seating... The only option off hand that it doesn't have is the heated seats & R/F tires. If I am correct, it has everything else though.
Does the car ever shift at redline? I saw it shift at 5500
@Areoplane7 the ford crown vic is 239hp this year... an un supercharged V8 ranges from 220-330 bhp. on average when you scale them all they lie around the 280-300 range. This is a muscle sedan. Not a mustang cobra GT. Learn your shit, bitch.
@GodlessMartyr666 it doesnt matter what kind of car it is. and i dont care about american cars cause they suck big time. in europe NA 2.5L inline4 makes 250 hp with no problem and still gets 10l/100km.
you have 4.6 v8 SUPERCHARGED that makes only 330 hp. no comment there.
@Areoplane7 uhh no , you failed to read what I wrote properly. WITHOUT supercharging, this engine is STANDARD @ 330hp When you supercharge it on a rear wheel crank drive system you can quite easily exceed 450hp. American muscle sedan. Learn it.
best way i can describe the difference in the 2v vs the intech 4v motors is that the 4v motors sound more fluid, if you read me. 2v motors sound kinda dry and raggedy. don't get me wrong, i drive a '98 crown vic, and with the right exhaust and intake setup, they sound better, but the 4v motors really have a howl to them that just can't be beat.
Oh these Intechs sound beefier. In other words, more mature or commanding. Maybe not as noticeable in the video but much so in person. I've driven both.
Yesterday I pulled an aluminum block 4.6 out of a '93 Lincoln to home brew a Cobra engine out of it and even though the block is aluminum let me tell ya, it's not a lightweight engine. Also it is the biggest V8 I have ever seen. It might displace only 4.6 liters but outwardly it made the FE 390 in the car next to it look small by comparison.
I know, Wide & Long. Friends had to repair the crankshaft in a 96 Crown Victoria ( SOHC 2V 4.6. It was no easy task and when it was out, that damn thing was a monster. But theres a $h!t load of potential in these Ford Modular motors.
I got permission to use the sound from Gearhead291. It's the Stock Exhaust sound of his 98 Continental. He recorded this before he did a resonator delete ( Straight Pipe ).
hey man great video, i have a 99 continental and i hate how these cars shift out of 3rd gear around 100 mph at around 4 grand if the car is in Drive. If you put the car in 3rd gear setting the car could 125 mph in 3rd gear really show this engines potential at the high speeds.
I didn't floor it and I did let off the throttle a little when it reached a 100. Keep in mind I didn't intend to do 120. I intend to just go 100 like I did in some of my other videos but I thought F**k it and I just went for it since it was going to be my fastest run. Thats why u see me in 4th when I got to 100. After that I just went for it.
But yeah this would've been a quicker run had I planned for it, and had the shifter been in 3rd.
The Expedition, F-150, mustang should get the Ecoboost V6 as the base engine, and the 5.0L Boss as the higher end option. The mustang and expedition should get the 6.2 Boss for a SVT Expedition, and the GT500 Mustang.
i love my lincoln, ive got a 95 continental and i just mess the tuners up, usually atleast, but the trans is so weak so i think im gonna get a mark VIII for that extra power and RWD=]
i drive on of these now and it is pretty fast. they ride so smooth you cant even tell youre going too fast. everytime i look down at the speedometer i am fcking speeding!
I drive an '01 Seville SLS with a 32V 4.6 Northstar L37 and it pulls about that hard, if not a little harder (it's all top-end though). It also uses a similar illuminated glass guage cluster that is practically invisible when off. I've taken on a mid-90's Mustang GT and beat it, and took on a somewhat newer one of the same generation and we were pretty close whenever I was in my powerband (the SLS is slow off the line, but pulls hard past 4,000 RPM, making it more suited to roll-racing.
When I was going to do the run, I didn't intend on maxing out @120. When I hit 20MPH, I saw that the road was spotless. I thought what the hell and I went for it. You notice how the engine sound between 0-35. I eased into at first nut then after 20MPH I hit the gas hard. But I cut out 1st and 2nd gear at 5500RPM. These cars can redline but I didn't want to screw the car up.
I have the 02 Continental, I've added a few minor things like a K&N filter, but I can assure you that the crown vic can't accelerate as fast. Fwd has nothing to do with it, it's just that the Continentals only have 4spd autos and relatively low ratios, plus they're heavy. I would love to switch mine to rwd though, it's way more fun and less prone to understeer.
Come to think, that Traction control did slow me done some between 15-35MPH and finally cuts off near 70MPH.
U're right, FWD has nothing to do with it. But RWD is preferred.
A RWD Conversion on this platform is one hell of a project. But nothings impossible. I once saw in a 5.0 Mustang Mag, a dude took a Focus Coupe, added a live axle in the rear and added a Ford V8 ( Possibly an Intech).
I'd guess the best way to get away is fitting in a different transmission somehow.
i noticed ur speedometer is not digital, my dad and my uncle used to have a continental and both were digital, everything was digital but neither one of them had the RPM, and my dads was a '94 and my uncles was a 90. im surprised urs isnt digital
U've missed out. 95 and Up switched over to analog. It's a very different car compared to 94 and older, not only in looks but mechanically as well. Only thing digital is that little info center on the side. And I prefer it this way really. I don't like those all digital setups thats found in older Lincolns. It's just so 80's. Last all digital Ford Speedo was in the 05 Mercury Grand Marquis and last in Lincoln was 97 Town Car .
The cluster is mostly a dark Mirror with illuminated Analog needles & lights like ABS, Check engine, & etc. On the side is the digital info display.
Above is the panel the reflects onto the cluster. Thats the Fuel, temp RPM & speed. Most likely lit by thin florescent tubes like those from laptops as the panel itself is very thin when removed. You can see how the panel even reflects off the needles.
Look @ my 01 Continental night run, u'll see how it all comes on.
I transitioned between 89 & 93. Normally used 89, went to 93 for long highway trips or after every oil change with an injector cleaner to help clean things up.
Used 91 if there weren't much difference in price to 89.
The Continental is a luxury cruiser with big balls, whereas the SHO is a race car in sedan trim that does it while screaming like an Italian supercar. Different strokes for different folks--but both are badass.
The Run wasn't really planned. If it were, I would of deactivated the traction Control & I would of adjusted the ride to Firm & the steering effort on high.
I just had my camera in the glovebox, was @ a light with nobody around, and a long stretch ahead of me. I thought what the hell.
Notice how the Traction control finally went off around 70MPH.
nice how you can top off your speedometer, you need to mod an LS to do that.it probably could do it stock, but there is a speed limiter.

Yesterday I pulled an aluminum block 4.6 out of a '93 Lincoln to home brew a Cobra engine out of it and even though the block is aluminum let me tell ya, it's not a lightweight engine. Also it is the biggest V8 I have ever seen. It might displace only 4.6 liters but outwardly it made the FE 390 in the car next to it look small by comparison.
zapwatt 1 year ago
@zapwatt
I know, Wide & Long. Friends had to repair the crankshaft in a 96 Crown Victoria ( SOHC 2V 4.6. It was no easy task and when it was out, that damn thing was a monster. But theres a $h!t load of potential in these Ford Modular motors.

What exhaust is on the car used for the sound in the opening/ending, it sounds awesome!
55ChevyBelairs 1 year ago
@55ChevyBelairs
I got permission to use the sound from Gearhead291. It's the Stock Exhaust sound of his 98 Continental. He recorded this before he did a resonator delete ( Straight Pipe ).
Intechdude300 1 year ago
Very cool. Reminds me I need to dust the black panel where the virtual instruments project down onto in my '97 Conti...

does any one know how fast a 98 Lincoln continental after the speedometer hits 120 mph?
dennis12345678910111 1 year ago
No clue. If heard 125 and it sounds realistic but if you look below, someone claims 153.
Intechdude300 1 year ago
@dennis12345678910111 it's got a limiter, but without the limiter it can do 150mph
from 1999-2002 conti can do 157mph
usaLINCOLN 1 year ago
it has a electronic fuel cut out
i did 153 with my 01 conti
i have a performane chip on it and i was not going down hill :)

i got one of these dont drive it so hard youll be doing a tranny
evolutionofman 2 years ago
I know these AX4N trannys can't support this engine when abused. Same used in Duratec Taurus's.
The car was fine when I had it. Haven't had the the Continental for over 3 years now.
Intechdude300 2 years ago
hey man great video, i have a 99 continental and i hate how these cars shift out of 3rd gear around 100 mph at around 4 grand if the car is in Drive. If you put the car in 3rd gear setting the car could 125 mph in 3rd gear really show this engines potential at the high speeds.
roadjeff 2 years ago
I didn't floor it and I did let off the throttle a little when it reached a 100. Keep in mind I didn't intend to do 120. I intend to just go 100 like I did in some of my other videos but I thought F**k it and I just went for it since it was going to be my fastest run. Thats why u see me in 4th when I got to 100. After that I just went for it.
But yeah this would've been a quicker run had I planned for it, and had the shifter been in 3rd.
Intechdude300 2 years ago
Love it! Sitting at 4 grand, and doin 120 MPH!!! nice!
thepunisher1212 2 years ago
I think theres a video somewhere on here showing that these cars can do 125.
The needle was well into the black area so it should been around 125. Who knows, maybe they can do more.

Stock 2001 Lincoln Continental
They essentially have a detuned cobra engine.
(260HP from 95-98) though for 98 they worked it out with 8 individual ignition coils and gave it ability to deliver full torque at much lower RPMs.
(275HP from 99-02)
Detuned because the AX4N Transmissions couldn't handle the full power of the engine, and still can't as/is when abused.
Intechdude300 2 years ago
The 5.0L is still a Modular, just a 302ci variant. It's a bored, sleeved, and stroked 4.6L. The Boss 6.2L and 7.0L will be amazing, though. :)

Why in the world did Ford kill the continental??? The Mark 8 death was bad enough. They could have atleast put this engine in the Towncar!
commodore1975 2 years ago 14
FWD ate up transmissions..
loucks428 2 years ago
The Expedition, F-150, mustang should get the Ecoboost V6 as the base engine, and the 5.0L Boss as the higher end option. The mustang and expedition should get the 6.2 Boss for a SVT Expedition, and the GT500 Mustang.
rudolphna54 2 years ago
svt expo nice idea cant wait for the boss 5.0 and 6.2 time for ford to go back to rwd i love my non ecoboost flex tho

thats all go or your traction control =/

Traction Control did affect speed somewhat @ the beginning.
Intechdude300 2 years ago
lol nice you did that in about 6.8 sec

Could've done a quicker run too.

i love my lincoln, ive got a 95 continental and i just mess the tuners up, usually atleast, but the trans is so weak so i think im gonna get a mark VIII for that extra power and RWD=]

i drive on of these now and it is pretty fast. they ride so smooth you cant even tell youre going too fast. everytime i look down at the speedometer i am fcking speeding!
AJJohnson315 2 years ago
lol...i hear ya... i have a 98 lincoln continental, and i am strugglin to stayin the 30's.. the speed just dont feel like 30. its like ridin 20mph
cavanfamily12345 2 years ago
I drive an '01 Seville SLS with a 32V 4.6 Northstar L37 and it pulls about that hard, if not a little harder (it's all top-end though). It also uses a similar illuminated glass guage cluster that is practically invisible when off. I've taken on a mid-90's Mustang GT and beat it, and took on a somewhat newer one of the same generation and we were pretty close whenever I was in my powerband (the SLS is slow off the line, but pulls hard past 4,000 RPM, making it more suited to roll-racing.
Halogen360 2 years ago
I'd say both are about the same when pushed.
In all, could've done a faster run.

What a cool cluster.
MusicJunkie630 2 years ago 2
Wow they detune that thing. The PCM didn't even push that 32V to 6k!
FiredUpZ28 2 years ago
Read the description man. I didn't floor it. I just didn't want to screw up the car. I've seen videos of these cars going past 6K.
Plus these transmission will just be torn apart if the engine weren't detuned. Heck they can be even at current power levels if abused.
Intechdude300 2 years ago
thats what front wheel drive does to your power....i have a heavier crown vic (rwd)with only 200hp and it goes just as fast.
stephensamperi 2 years ago
Both regular and P71 Vics can keep up, but you need to push them harder to do so..
I've driven many of both version to know so. Too bad the Marauder was discontinued and was left only with 4 Speed when it was around.
Intechdude300 2 years ago
I have the 02 Continental, I've added a few minor things like a K&N filter, but I can assure you that the crown vic can't accelerate as fast. Fwd has nothing to do with it, it's just that the Continentals only have 4spd autos and relatively low ratios, plus they're heavy. I would love to switch mine to rwd though, it's way more fun and less prone to understeer.
zeteclover 2 years ago
if making your car RWD is easy, you should do it. RWD puts the power down in the back where all the grip is when you take off.
stephensamperi 2 years ago
Come to think, that Traction control did slow me done some between 15-35MPH and finally cuts off near 70MPH.
U're right, FWD has nothing to do with it. But RWD is preferred.
A RWD Conversion on this platform is one hell of a project. But nothings impossible. I once saw in a 5.0 Mustang Mag, a dude took a Focus Coupe, added a live axle in the rear and added a Ford V8 ( Possibly an Intech).
I'd guess the best way to get away is fitting in a different transmission somehow.
Intechdude300 2 years ago
i noticed ur speedometer is not digital, my dad and my uncle used to have a continental and both were digital, everything was digital but neither one of them had the RPM, and my dads was a '94 and my uncles was a 90. im surprised urs isnt digital
peggsheg 2 years ago
U've missed out. 95 and Up switched over to analog. It's a very different car compared to 94 and older, not only in looks but mechanically as well. Only thing digital is that little info center on the side. And I prefer it this way really. I don't like those all digital setups thats found in older Lincolns. It's just so 80's. Last all digital Ford Speedo was in the 05 Mercury Grand Marquis and last in Lincoln was 97 Town Car .
Intechdude300 2 years ago
yea it was the real speed its a fuckin hologram they dont have needles on top
8320513 3 years ago
that wasnt a real speedo because the shadow on the top didnt have the needle moving and the words on the side didnt fit
FriedBullet99 3 years ago
2 Peice setup
The cluster is mostly a dark Mirror with illuminated Analog needles & lights like ABS, Check engine, & etc. On the side is the digital info display.
Above is the panel the reflects onto the cluster. Thats the Fuel, temp RPM & speed. Most likely lit by thin florescent tubes like those from laptops as the panel itself is very thin when removed. You can see how the panel even reflects off the needles.
Look @ my 01 Continental night run, u'll see how it all comes on.
Intechdude300 3 years ago
I still don't get why people like SHO taurus when the Continental is so kick ass
Thilindel 3 years ago 7
Cause few know what the Continental really is underneath. Most think it's the same underpowered V6 P.O.S from the late 80's early 90's.
Intechdude300 3 years ago
I love the Lincoln Continental.
What gas are you using btw? Regular 87 or Premium 91?
R0YB0T 3 years ago
I transitioned between 89 & 93. Normally used 89, went to 93 for long highway trips or after every oil change with an injector cleaner to help clean things up.
Used 91 if there weren't much difference in price to 89.
Intechdude300 3 years ago
Because it was cheaper and offered a 5-speed manual!
ghettogates 3 years ago
The Continental is a luxury cruiser with big balls, whereas the SHO is a race car in sedan trim that does it while screaming like an Italian supercar. Different strokes for different folks--but both are badass.
mooserack99 3 years ago 3
@Thilindel I think the new SHO would be so much better if it had RWD with THIS engine
chpman2013 1 year ago
@Thilindel cuz the continental was around 40-50k

Only in the rear from 97-02.
Intechdude300 3 years ago
cool vid, but at that speed i would feel better with the ride set to "FIRM"
Rlnthndr 3 years ago
The Run wasn't really planned. If it were, I would of deactivated the traction Control & I would of adjusted the ride to Firm & the steering effort on high.
I just had my camera in the glovebox, was @ a light with nobody around, and a long stretch ahead of me. I thought what the hell.
Notice how the Traction control finally went off around 70MPH.
