The numbers I quote came out of the budgeting estimates from the City Manager's office from the meeting date when they approved the funds.
I am VERY on board and behind Elgin's historical sites. Do I think Elgin's oldest home needs to be torn down? Absolutely NOT. But do I think they could restore it for far less than they plan to spend? Of course.
Turning our oldest home into what's basically a home from the future seems....perverse.
Sorry Tony but I have to disagree on your comments regarding the investment in the Rope House on the near west side! The structure is both historically and architecturely significant AND the bulk of the money is coming from the stimulus and not city budget. BUT I do agree that geothermal heating is ridiculous - just put in high efficiency and spend the saved money elsewhere.
