  • Excellent!

  • @9lontoonieful1 thank you! I love Fahey's simple and deep tunes so much

  • spot on rendition!

  • @jkbosh spot on comments like yours :D Thank you VERY much! Lena

  • Hi Lena. you know, I've never used tabs to learn a song. I believe in listening and reinterpreting the music to fit your own level and style of playing. The only tab I have ever used is the tab for Bouree in Em, and that was sent to me by a friend. I teach a little bit of guitar and I do use tab at the beginning with my pupils, but at a certain point we listen and interpret the music for our own needs. I often look at tabs to get the tuning, but after that it's free form..It's a great adventure

  • @cottageorgan Well, I mostly learn by tabs, note for note, and then got free with the tune. Except How Green Was My Valley: there were no tabs, so I learned by listening only. :) Lena

  • @lenaspieltblues and in my humble opinion, that is probably your best performance/upload, so explore the world of learning by ear and by tab I guess. It's all good music at the end of the day and I love what you are doing no matter how you come about learning it. Keep on plucking mama...peace and courage, Anthony

  • @cottageorgan Finally you have to feel the music inside ... Thank you Anthony :))

  • this is one of my favourite John Fahey tunes. I've been trying to figure it out in an open D tuning..no wonder I wasn't getting far. You've got a really nice touch Lena and real feel in your playing. I wish there were more guitarists like you down here in New Zealand to pick along with. I go busking sometimes, and when I get my slide out people are like.."what's that thing for?!". Anyway, keep on picking...Anthony

  • @cottageorgan Thanks Anthony!! ... yes you're right: the condition to play JF's music is to love and to feel his music. It isn't too difficult in a techniqual way, but it exercises empathy. You can find the tabs on johnfahey site. Keep on picking, you too, Lena :))

  • ***** VERY COOL, VERY NICE ****

  • Thank you very much Raíssa. You're just a great player!

    All the best,

    Lena :))

  • its very good the track its very beautifull the weissenborn

  • Thanks a lot, you have some beautiful guitars too

    All the best,

    Lena :)

  • Excellent job in capturing the essence of this Fahey classic.

And I'm sorry, I have to say it. You look great and I was distracted at times!! No offense, just being honest : )

  • There is only one possibility to capture the essence of John Fahey's music: you have to find it in your mind. This is what I think ... and this is the reason why his music is for a life.

Thank you very much for your nice compliments!

    Lena :)

  • You couldn't have summed up Fahey any better, he was something very special. Keep up the excellent playing and happy holidays.

  • thats some really sweet playing...

  • That was my first try on Weissenborn guitar ... glad, that you like it!!!

    Wish you a nice weekend,

    Lena

  • wow, das klingt ganz tief nach Delta ... Delta Blues, :o) genialer Sound! cheers - Janick

  • Das ist aber ein schönes Kompliment!

    Vielen Dank Janick,

    herzliche Grüße, Lena :))

  • man so much soul in this lena ... so much soul ... so gooood !!

  • You seem to have a very good taste Dom ;=)) Yes, I love these wonderful Fahey tunes, so simple, so full of emotions ....

  • Very good rendition Lena - and the Weissenborn klingt so gut aus in an aufheben sort of way.

  • Thanks Charlie, yes I love my Gold Tone Weissenborn very much ...

  • This is first class ! You are very good and I enjoyed your playing. 5 stars --:)Rod

  • Like to paint pictures with the guitar, same as you ... Thanks a lot Rodney! :=))

  • I like your playing and my wife does too.

  • I like to read this very much, thank you and your wife :=)) !

  • Tatsächlich gerade erst entdeckt, spitze!!!

  • Hihi! Danke und Bussi!

  • Ich liebe die Musik von John F. Großartig gespielt. 5*

    Martin

  • Vielen Dank Martin! Lena (oskarstolz über Dein Urteil :=))

  • very nice

  • you are amazing!

  • Ich danke Dir sehr Tink !!! :=))) (muß auch mal bei Dir weiterforschen, bin leider nur so busybusy zur Zeit)

  • Nice stuff, but the rythm is very "strange"

The sound is not so good too, try to mute strings better behind steel bar...

anyway if you follow this way you're going to be a great player, i'm honestly with you, i dont understand why anybody tell you that before?

    Thank for posting

  • Thank you!

  • :)) Excellent, comme d'habitude...Quelle ambiance...

  • Thanks so much my friend :=))

  • Beautiful, Lena... So glad to get to hear and see this...

  • Thank you my friend :=)

  • Lena, great job. I like the new guitar! I am gonna swim to Germany and have you teach me some of those tunes!

  • Thanks Michael, I will hold ready some tea, Wiener Schnitzel and beer, and then we will begin to play ... :=)

  • In contrast to WS64's version, yours (and John's) sounds postmortem.

Transfiguration is one my favorite albums of all time. Someday I want to get a Weissenborn. I wouldn't mind learning "How Green Was My Valley" myself. Also, "Dance of the Inhabitants of the Palace of King Philip XIV of Spain".

  • Thanks a lot Megalon! I agree with you that a peacock is not a roadrunner ;=). And also agree that "The Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death" is the most wonderful of all this wonderful early Fahey recordings.

"Dance of the ..." is a very interesting tune in Open C unisono (CCCgce), I almost tried a little bit. But first I will go on studying some of the classical Open G and D tunes. Thanks again, Lena

  • Vielen Dank für das liebe Kompliment Frank :=))

  • Very good playing!! ***** :))

  • Thank you very much austinplace1 :=)

  • Nice slidin'!

  • Thanks Josef!

  • This is wonderful!!! Thanks for posting...

Sweet tone & nice expressive playing.

It sounds like you are enjoying your new Weissenborn!

btw, do you know the name of that Fahey tune which you refer to in your info?

When you say "transcribe", do you mean "tab" or notation?

  • First: thanks so much for your nice words about my WB and playing !!! :=))

Then thanks again for your question about the video on youtube. I heard it again, again, heard the recording on "Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death" and I have to say sorry about my wrong info: the video IS "How Green Was My Valley", it is played very fast, gets a totally different voicing, but it is named correct. I was wrong. Sorry! :=/

    Third: I mean notation

  • WOW! :)

    Alle Sternchen...

  • Klasse.

    Michael
