I freaked! I thought he was dead. Seeing that chute pop open was a huge relief.

Not the best end to a day flying.... maybe if he just stuck to flying and not trying tricks he would have landed.

Chute saved his bacon, even though it obvious that he's had no PLF training... landed like a sack of potatoes. :)

I thought if you throw out the emergency chute you do not get disatched form the glider?????????????????

The harness, glider, and parachute all hook into the carabiner, so normally it all stays together. Looks like the keel is still attached to him when he comes down, so I'm guessing the glider literally went to pieces.

That is the worst airframe failure with the best outcome possible. WOW!

He didn't come unattached - the keel is still attached to him. The leading edges and sail came way from the keel.

WHere do I get the pilots name and number. I am getting into the sport and want to get a chute and a talk to someone who has had to use one.

Sky divers, hang gliders, paragliders, etc tend to wear an emergency chute, just in case.

OMG!
How did he get parted from the glider so fast?
Really "good" emergency procedure...
But how did he do that?

Very bizarre accident. The initial tumble is a case
of a low-speed entry into a loop and failing to make
it over the top, but I've *never* heard of the pilot
separating from the glider during an in-flight failure
of the glider structure. That's clearly what happened,
since there's part of the keel still attached to his
harness, but I can't imagine how this could occur.
