I posted the following earlier in the day. Can someone tell me why it was flagged as "spam"?????
"Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but at around 0:08-0:11 it looks like Baruto is down and ready for a clean start, but Kisenosato is being deceptive (faking) with his hands (intentional or unintentional). This throws off Baruto's timing (and maybe even irritates him), causing Baruto to change his strategy at the last moment?"
It should be noted that Baruto has had Kisenosato's number from the beginning of their rivalry. Out of 21 bouts between them, Baruto has won 18. Hence Baruto's ordinary sumo has been enough to dominate Kisenosato. Baruto has never needed to use sidestepping or henka in the past. So why did he use it this time? The most likely eplanation is that Baruto talked with Kotoshogiku sometime before the Baruto-Kisenosato bout. This is just a conjecture. I have no inside information.
Well, not the most honoreble move, but still a bit fun to watch. These techniques seems to be spreading now, henkas and slap-downs. I guess you have to be prepared for this in the future, even if your name is Hakuho.
Baruto has definitly acted like a Yokozuna so far, but he's got to keep it together now. If he loses this basho to Hakuho I'll go over there and kick his ass myself...

If you watch Baruto closely, you can see dominance in each of his fights. Hakuho didn't have a zero yusho recently. It he keeps his strong performance, Baruto can win this and the next tournament!
This will be Baruto's tournament. Now he can even lose to Hakuho. I guess he will make a 14-1 record and is a candidate for the promotion to Yokozuna on the next basho!
@Pencilkillah there are still 3 days to go - Baruto can still not win the cup - we'll have to see what happens, but after his henka today, he certainly has a very good chance at this first championship - promotion to yokozuna? he'd have to follow this up with a great March tourney too before we start that talk.
lol a little lesson for kisenosato for the nonsense stalling before tachi-ai.. looking at how smug baruto looks afterwards, he probably meant it as a lesson. last time he used henka you could see shame in his face, but he's all smug here :)
in another extremely important bout between 2 powerful ozeki, Baruto uses "little man sumo" for a change, and quickly puts his hands on the back of Kisenosato's neck immediately after the tachi-ai, steps to his left and pulls the surprised ozeki down to the clay. Remember that Kisenosato did almost exactly the same thing to Kotoshogiku earlier in the basho. You wonder whether Baruto and Kotoshoghiku had a little conversation about that earlier bout before this one.
@pukulu I pay attention to your posts because I learn a lot by reading them about the individual wrestlers. I even pick up a term here and there. I have a question though about ettiquette here. a "side-step" like that or "henka" I think it's called is kind of looked down on. I think it's safe to say Baruto is a respected wrestler and doesn't rely on it. In this case, is it a show of disrespect to send a message? Maybe not disrespect but a "reminder" to play like a big boy at this level?
Cheer up , always Kisenosato so angry looking...

Un-sportsmanship by Baruto...

this move was also popular 10 years ago , for example against Dejima or Chiotaykay.

Shameful. Hope he ends facing a bitter Hakuho and get his ass beaten.

Great to see Kisenosato getting what he deserves after his near Henka on Kotoshogiku yesterday.

About 22 seconds in- That is not the expression of a man who just won by henka; its the expression of a man who gave his opponent what he asked for.
