just watched the movie..after seeing such amazing gay-themed movies as Brotherhood,Watercolors or Shelter I didn't think anything could impress me, but this..beautiful..I can't believe it's from 1987!
Hi: I was only in my early 20s when I first saw Maurice, and nearly 25 years on I still love this film! It has MANY recent/new young fans (teen to 20s) through YouTube, Tumblr, etc – boys and girls – and for them it is (as timothyj1966 says) 'timeless and beautiful'. Try it – I think you'lll like it. (But your "grandma's grandma's grandma" might not, unless they were *very* broadminded!)

I would TOTALLY watch this movie but its set back in like the 1920s not modern time or at least 1990+. What gay teen wants to watch something that looks like a movie his grandmas, grandmas, grandmas would want to watch but in color???
@1GoldRunner hey there - I read this book and saw this movie when I was 28 and married... it is about a man who chooses to marry even though he was in love with his buddy. Think how hard it was for guys like this in England in the 20s, the author who wrote this novel - was gay... and because of his balls to write the book in 1906 - I came out in 1994. You should try watching it - it deals with Life... and coming out even back than... you'll like it... its timeless and beautiful
It's funny, because while I was watching this, I kept getting the Brokeback Mountain trailer song stuck in my head. It seems oddly fitting, like where the horses come in. I can't wait to see this film, though. I've been looking for a copy! It looks fantastic.
Iiiii agreeeee... this is like the worst, worst, worst trailer ever to be seen, but the film is absolutely gorgeous. Glad I've only seen the trailer afterwards. =)
I used to say my name is pronounced "Morris" but after hearing about this movie I tell people to pronounce my name "Mo-reese". no offense but i find this namesake of mine insulting, fictional or no.
great story from a great book. aven more so considering it was written in 1913! it left me quite brokenhearded though, despite the beautiful ending! the film does not do it justice but it's nice nevertheless
One of the most beautiful and sensitive films on the subject I have ever seen. Saw it years ago during it's original release. Still a favorite. Yes, a classic.
@keithswordsman I think mauriceand scutter are better together than maurice and hugh grant's character. I thought that when I first saw the movie years ago
@ericnfan - That certainly seems to be the message of the movie. Whilst Maurice's relationship with Clive may have been loving, it was unsatisfying because Clive couldn't fully embrace it. With Scudder Maurice has found a genuinely satisfying relationship.
Was thinking exactly the same thing. The trailer gives away everything. Saw the movie for the first time last night. It captured me i couldn't even walk away for a min to go pee... haha..
Btw Hugh Grant looked quite actractive back then. Now i can't stand to look at him. But that also has to do something with his personality/character.
I disagree. I think the book, while really beautifully written, has some difficult-to-ignore flaws in story telling, and that the changes made for the film were all for the better.
(And oh jeeze, this preview is awful, it gives everything away!)
Im reading the book at the moment and i dont want to watch the film until i have finished the book. But i couldnt resist taking a peek at the trailer. It looks quite true to the book so far, although i imagine maurice better looking lol.
Beware!!! It's a SPOILER for the whole bloody film.. not quite a teaser. Was it really a trailer back then? hehe.. a weird notion of one- it's a summury of the whole thing.. a nice one, but it tells everything.

The trailer is quite awful. The movie on the other hand is breathtakingly beautiful. My favorite romantic film of all time!

The trailer is a little boring but from what everyone is saying, it's pretty darn good.
I gotta ask though, so I know in what mood I should be watching this...
Does it have a happy ending or a sad ending?
*crosses fingers and hopes for happy ending*

Preciosa película sobre los sentimientos de amor. Da igual la etiqueta, el amor no entiende de éso, sino de sentimientos.
