  • @jackson4tube I'm a largemouth fisherman myself but have been seeing them more and more in the Potomac River over the years and have hooked only one that cut my line. I realize I need wire to catch one but any tips on what kind of bait/lure and what time of the day? I want to catch one.

  • @jackson4tube dude being on River Monsters that once i bet that was interesting! I LOVE THAT SHOW!

  • can you tell me where this was, I'm getting a big game rod and reel for christmas, a 130lbs big game rod, and a 100lbs spinning reel with 400yd capacity. I plan on going for only the biggest of fresh water fish with it, including the white sturgeon (which is catch and release mostly and the biggest freshwater fish in the united states at 1600lbs and 20ft) blue cats, which of course can reach 114lbs and over 6ft, and alligator gar and pike

  • i catch alligator gar and spotted gar in louisiana all the time i dont catch any monsters but i have caught a 4ft one that fought me for about 10 minutes. i use 60lb spiderwire and a 12 inch steel leader with a size 0/1 hook and cutbait

  • can you find them in canada? I had something like this come up to my boat and it was the size of my boat, and my friend one year lost his foot to somthing about this size, he didnt lose it but basicly did

  • were did u catch that

  • Chicken liver mostly thats what we use ... the best place to catch gar are in small channels and creeks ... you want find them in open water .. if you do get one they are strong as hell .. you think a striped bass is strong wait till you get a gar on your line ... fucking powerful fish

  • holy shit

  • what all kind of bait can you catch gar on.

  • what size hooks where you guys using ???? do you think some mustad 8/0 will do? i recently found a spot where im sure no one fishes there cus its to damm hard to get back there you have to swim for a bit .....but the gars are huge ..

  • that is one biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig fish

  • Well done on catch and release

  • just saw this guy on animal planet on river monsters

  • @Yotehunter93 me too

  • Nice work, and thanks for the catch and release. If you aren't going to eat your quarry then one should release it. Especially such a large and awesome fish.

  • Yes there are alligator gar in Oklahoma. Most rivers. The record in ok is 192 I think. I caught a 6 foot one, but lost it at the bank. One of my fishing buddies likes to eat them. And the heads of large ones are a great show piece.

  • dude wow y did u let it go man and wat bait/lure did u use???

  • they probably sport fishing

  • why would he keep it?

  • im going to buy 2 rods and 2 reels. can u sugest any rod a casting rod and a spinning rod which needs too be 6 feet or under and a reel for each rod.

  • how much is it

  • Damn! I need to do this.

  • i remember catching a 2 foot gar and right when i got the camera it bit trough the line and went back in the water

  • awesome!!! all we have up here are longnosed and needle nosed but they get 5 feet long or so. They rarely bite a lure and we just bowfish them. God they gotta eat something to get that big tho.

  • any live in north carolina???

  • Now I'm looking at the pictures on the internet.

Is this a cross breed between a normal gar and an alligator?

  • what bait do u use

  • omg...

  • can you find them in louisiana

  • Yes.

  • I know we have shortnose and spotted gar in Oklahoma but are there any aligator gar in Oklahoma.

  • yes you can catch gator gar in oklahoma

  • @jackson4tube How about georgia?

  • Everybody in my family in LA eats gar fish!

  • @xxlindsey1990xx hell yeah

  • wat was the testing pound for the line

  • what bait do you use for these

  • i think u usually use a half of a buffalo fish with a trebble hook

  • I use minnows, but where I usually fish for gar they are ALL OVER the place on top of the water so you could actually use a lure they go after anyhing

  • if your swimn will thy bite u

  • lulz u wanna fight them in water with me xD

  • What bait u use.

  • omg i found 1 dead at a lake in oklahona called lake fort cobb wow i messured it and it was 6 1/2 feet

  • O.M.G WOW cong... Pierre Fortier of(QUEBEC) CANADA member of GARFISHING

  • now i have only been a redkneck for a couple of years and one thing i learned about gator gar fishing never use ur penis too catch one

  • yeah...That seems to be a bad idea, when did you try this? And how? XD, Man that's awesome.

  • @captininsano042 good job!

  • look at the size of that thing

  • does anybody know what lure you use to catch one of these

  • LURES are not near as effective as a big old live bait....carp shadf etc ...

  • I use minnows, but where I usually fish for gar they are ALL OVER the place on top of the water so you could actually use a lure they go after anyhing, use BIG hooks for them though or triple hooks

  • good catch, I fishh the gator gar too, tip, turn the clicker off, try wire loop, less stress on fish

  • what lure do you use to catch a gar?

  • knowing the nature of the fish i would say live bait.

  • incredible fish! And lots of respect for your Catch 'n release style of fishing!

  • are those a native species?

  • yeah ..... pgh hunter... they are native to most of texas, extreme northern mexico, s.e. oklahoma, and a few drainages in louisiana mississippi..world record is 302 lbs from the nueces river in texas in the 50's

  • I think so. Pretty sure they belong in arkansas, texas, and louisiana.

  • Man 5 star, what a fight and to finish it off catch and release, good stuff.. What a monster for that river though.

  • fishing for gar is amazing, the fight is just so awesome.

  • what hook do you use...can you use circle hooks?

  • ?

it doesnt matter what kind of hook you use.

  • some people dont even use hooks they use rope lures which get tangled in their teeth

  • damn nice video, really nice fight.must be a goooood feling huh..

  • That fish has to be 40-50 lbs! Gar are wicked awesome fighters, too!! I usually use a bluegill/sunfish/brim for bait. Good luck!! (And please release!)

  • what rigs do you use to catch gar

    and what bait

  • gar i catch only get to about 3 lbs what was that gar like 20-30+?

  • I commend you on releasing these fish. The bowhunters that just whack and stack these big apex predators with no intention of eating them really get me annoyed. Keep up the good work.

  • i nice fish i love catching gars there a good strong lil fish lol...the only part is grabbing it once u real it in thats what gets me kind of scared

  • Awesome gar. Looks like Texas somewhere. Great video guy's.

  • where are you guys catching these monsters. i have done short nose, long nose, musky, and pike for big game fresh water but i want a picture of me and these bad boys

  • The gars in the potomac river are huge too! Not as big as there though haha

  • wish i was farther south for som alligator gar. who would bow fish em when u could catch rod and reel?

  • right on!!!

  • awesome. an alligator gar video with a hook in him, instead of an ass-load of arrows. i wanna catch one! what do ya'll use for bait?

  • Amen.

  • man i'll bet that was fun. those fish are so strong

  • Awesome, I sooo want to catch a gar,'specially gator

  • i caught one in my cast net near my house....i tried making some filets out of it,,,,,, but i couldnt even cut the skin with my sharp knife
