Never seen this video before; a real paranoid one! Well done!!The 80's were the paranoid times for excellence although there were not much technology the creativity and the originality was the first! So many real artists in those times
this song is beautifull...this band was the greatest of that 80's times. You must listen all of your songs - they talk about all the live aspects in our lives. The lirycs are absolutelly fantastic. Buy the album "Non Stop Erotic Cabaret" and listen carefully all the songs and you you'll learn all about the human fellings and far so more.
I recently got the DVD version of Non-Stop Erotic Video Show, which i had on VHS for so many years, and i forgot how much i wore my tape out, rewiding this so i could play it back. Loved it. Especially the two girl singers, really fancied the one on the right :D
This is how you make money.... Gotta ask yourself what sorry a55 people buy and listen to this crap, I'm sorry but seriously, lets all be entertained by a lullaby aimed at a motarded chimpanzee =)
what can you say of person says he doesnt like it, but not enough to bother to post a comment? if you didnt like it that much, why bother? not anything else better to do?
@smo0they Why sit and watch it then? Let's all be entertained by spouting our opinions that no one wants to hear and that aren't actually worth shit. Youtube is a place for video's to be watched, sadly people like you have turned it into the soapbox of gaping arseholes.
I agree, utterly brilliant, i know soft cell had alot of success with a couple of the singles but overall theyre still vastly underrated and in particular non stop erotic cabaret, possibly one of the best albums ever.
Always loved this song, Just stop a moment and compare this passionately lushus extravaganza with the soulless glossy shit that I assume still creeps it's way up the charts. I say assume cos I haven't looked at the charts for years... and I'm all the better for it ! better for it...
wicked tune ... used to go and see soft cell in early days in london , so many mad memorys , everyone loved them but didnt say at the time lol still have all the 7 inch and 12 inch records pmsl....pity its so crap now in music and life , borring as all the same now , no punks no skins , no mods and no rockers ! all bloody hoodies and chavs...how poo.....

ciara is a new pop sensation ( for commoners ) who is just selling sex and her voice barely comes out as if u have put a pillow in front of her mouth lol

god bless you for shutting yourself off from the modern world ,i should do the same
fuduzan5562 you need to go fuck yourself , at least i have an opinion you stupid cow ,you obviously have no brain cells in your stupid head otherwise you would talk about the music instead of coming here bitching about trivial things just like a pile off useless SHIT
Brilliant song! The whole album is fantastic! Brings back so many memories, sitting in my friends bedroom at lunchbreak listening to it over and over again! Oh to be 16 again.
Have just started on Marc's autobiography after devouring the second volume -which is a great read-am trying not to rush through it though-it really qualifies those early vids !-
The song is about an entertainer, a singer on stage with a band, getting panicky in front of a bored, empty, passive, washed audience that demands:
"Entertain me!
I'm as blank as can be
And I've seen it before
And I've done it before"
It's not about Me, it's not about debauchery, it's about show biz. Always sad to see how Marc Almond's great and often satirical lyrics are systematically misinterpreted by music critics and listeners, even fans. LISTEN to the entire text, not just the chorus.
dave ball look at his eyes but then again it was all happening in the 80's just not in the media so much as in the 90's.look at the interviews they were both hi....but good tunes. love em
OOOOOMMMMMMGGGGGG!!!!!!!!! these songs are awesome!!!!!I must have been like 10 when I started to listen to Marc Almond I can't believe I still know some of the words....That was like in the 90's..
As someone that's moved with the times. They (soft cell) we're a real 80's class act. They we're relatively influiential though they were not given the credit they truely deserved!!
Definitely Soft Cell's Tainted Love version is the best and also one of the best songs of the awesome 80's music. That decade was so great in terms of music, style, rhythmic. The music of 80's and 90's were not a mere music, it were a really poems, art that expressed feelings. Why it can't be achieved again?
Soft Cell was a vital source of inspiration for me in my teens. Quite amazing to see this again. The album (Erotic Cabaret) pretty much sums up the 1980's for me.
what years were you there? i try all the time to explain how dj chuckie star would play whatever he wanted and we danced to it all. i learned how to appreciate all types of music there. it didn't hurt there was a recoding studio next door! billy idol, david bowie and so many others came over tapes(!) of their latest sngs all the time. gee, i feel like it's high school or a streisand song!
1984 I think, I was young like 15 or 16. I don't remember any of the DJ's names but they all played such great music. Some was so unexpected but really fun to dance to. I do remember the smell of amyl throughout the place..not me! Yuck. Listening to Soft Cell and Marc Almond reminds me how fun life was then and can still be...
thanks for the great video that you have put on here of soft cell my mom as really enjoyed watching them and sing along to them it brings back her youth as she loved this group
Now in polish... To jedna z najlepszych piosenek z moich starych czasów w latach 80... Wyskakałem wtedy na niej jakieś kilkanaście kilometrów. And in english: in comunistic Poland that was very exclusive song - difficult to get:))
A song I've played on my bassguitar and sang for so many times by myself. Upload on youtube? nah!, love this video with all the typical 80's neon shapes and Marc's as Dave's 80's hair-dos...:D

Note that all the characters in the video are various kinds of entertainers. The theme is ENTERTAINMENT, not debauchery.
In the first verse he talks about the stupid blank audience.
"Could be a chat show, could be a go go, reaction would be the same"
The chorus is the audience.
The 2nd and 3rd verses describe the experience of the singer on stage.
"Fold all your arms and look straight ahead at this puppet on a string"
Then the inevitable fate in show biz:
"Build'em up
Knock them down"
steindard 3 years ago 12
capsulates the 80's to the tee
excess, debauchery, and the awkward notion of everything is about me.
