@Funwithfire90 yeah its like the better cgi capability we have, the less they put it to good use. closest I'd seen to a good mech is the one at the end of district 7
For all of you mentioning Real Steel - no. Fuck no. Real Steel is not even close to Robot Jox. I just watched Real Steel in IMAX. It was, at its best parts, mediocre. I'd rather pay to see Robot Jox in theaters again than to watch Rock'em Sock'em Steel. At least in Robot Jox they had the balls to fight inside the robots.
Why? WHYYYYY? How could Trent Reznor profit from recording (6:29 to 6:33, looped:awsome!) this terrible tragedy and putting it in one of his songs? AHHHhhh!!! @TralphazQ You gotta be kidding me, these robots doesn't have much mobility compare to Bay's Transformers which can do human like movements and poses.
You have to remember that this philosophy has a human element involved. You cannot compare this to Transformers because it's to different concepts and you know this. I like adding the human aspect because it gives the robots more character and the limits are bound the the operator. The more physical shape the operator the better results from the robot.
@youframedroger -- Robot Jox is available on DVD, you should be able to get it @ Amazon or anywhere that has a decent sci-fi section. I got mine at an F.Y.E. store about a year ago for ten bucks. Great movie!
@KeithWasHere1 This IS a full lenght mechwarrior movie. Sadly it's old, so there's no CGI and you have to look past a lot of fun stuff to enjoy the mechs.
@Sagramorbald yeah i remember seeing this on HBO and renting on vhs when i was about 11-13,i still think its a great movie..and if it does have CGI its probably earliy infantcy CGI (like in the original tron movie) but i was thinking of more of a full out Mechwarrior:Battle in the 31st century" movie Warhammer, Orion, Summoner (Thor), Catapult, Marauder, Axman, Timber Wolf (Mad Cat), Archer, Hellbringer (Loki), and Mad Dog (Vulture) and Hellbringer mechs.
@mrthebillman no one remembers it or everyones lost interest in it....man mechwarrior used to be the shit back in 97-99..perhaps 2000.(warrior 3 was awesome) me and my friends would rig up DIY projectors all kinds of shit...spent hours customizing our mechs (this has too much weight this has too much heat 6 Plasma PPC'S will blow your mech up upon the first firing!,no matter how many heat-sinks you have!)..i miss thos days, wow doesnt have the same fell.and i hate turn based combat!
it makes me so happy to see even a single scene from this movie.. I had forgotten what it was called, but remembered this fight vividly from my childhood. its movies like this that makes me happy to be a mid 80's child. so that I could be old enough to remember stuff like this.
@Drummrr its a classic. my favorite scene is when they are at the old movie theatre and says something like "Puppet Masters 19" or something like that
Hey, it's a great day out for the family. You get to see the robots fight, wear your protective masks in a toxic environment and if you're really lucky, your kid can catch the robot's fist as it falls on the spectators.
@viscountalpha You know, you'd think with such a futuristic concept that they would've learned by then and made sure the people watching would be SAFER than that. And where were all the cars and vehicles? and surely the people in the robots would be more protected than that and surely the referr would've stopped the match or not allowed the robot to crush and possibly kill him, that's what the ref is for, to make the count!
@drifter4o4 I checked it out, thanks for the link, but in my opinion that movie fails if it intends to be a serious contender to robot jox.
It's done by Steven Spielberg and just watching Real Steel trailer the movie is too much of a kiddy movie for me. Spielberg loves doing these type of movies and it pisses me off. Down on the luck type of guy,has his kid, meet robot/slash alien they form bond and save the world. Done and done.
@thisisrumorcontrol Ok... so the robot fists takes out a few rows..... OR.... I could jump up in front of it, and murder EVERYONE! Decisions.... decisions....
@thisisrumorcontrol Actually, all these people signed a waiver, I'm sure you might be aware of that. They knew the risks. Even death. So, all is good again XD they were all poor anyway
@Discipol This very reasonable point was addressed in the screenplay for Robot Jox II, in which a class action suit was filed against the robot fighting league by victims of robot crushings. Eventually the judge throws the suit out of court, stating in his legal opinion "WTF did you idiots think was gonna happen?" Sadly, Robot Jox II was never filmed :(
@OUPackmanJones1 If you watch the whole movie, it explains the reason for not briefing him earlier was to prevent a spy from leaking the information to the Russians. Only two people knew details about the weapons before the fight.

you know, I was born in 86, pretty sure I saw this movie as a kid and remember this scene. Seeing this and the kids on the playground in Terminator 2 blowing up from the nuke going off had a big impact as a child. But the cheezyness of this b grade type of production makes it that much more bizarre to witness people getting squashed by a robot :-\
does anyone think if this was remade, WELL, with Transformers quality effects and outstanding actors/actresses, todays society could appreciate it? I know i'd go see it but theres a great chance a lot of people haven't.
I can't wate to see Evangelion 2.0.Well they are not robots but giant armor plated clones of Adam and Lilith.Check out that one video when the Angel attacks it fires some god like power and lifts 10 destoryers hundreds of feet into the sky on crusifxes!Makes Avatar and Transformers look like walt disney. That story is so deep.Hollywood has no clue.
@AmanoJyaku71 would be insane if cameron or bay did an evangelion movie here in the states, story would fly over too many peoples heads though if they went with the end of evangelion ending.
@FormerlyKnownAsShun if by insane you mean "terrible" and by "fly over" you mean "bore people who aren't fan boys/girls with zero social skills" you are absolutely right.
@valakin Actually by insane I meant "entertaining" - and by "fly over" I meant people who didn't closely follow the original anime put out by GAINAX. You obviously didn't enjoy evangelion if your approaching my comment with such cynicism, and to insist that people who watch anime or "fanboys/girls" have zero social skills is just plain ignorant. Go watch more CSI if that's more your speed. *yawn*

*yawn*

It's unfortunate that Joe Haldeman wasn't allowed more control of the direction of this film.

Less people would have been flattened if he didn't get in the way of the flying fist. Robot pilot FAIL.

I thought I'd dreamt this film.

This scene disturbed me when I was a kid - with the bot falling and killing people.
