i knew connery , mcgoohan , mccallum was in it didnt realise hartnell was in it ? but what about gordon jackson ( george cowley - professionals ) -noticed him as well !
They were just about all in it. I saw Alfie Bass there (Bootsie and Snudge) Hudson the butle, Sid James etc..........a sort of helldrive down memory lane...they don't make them like that anymore....my Greek brother in law still drives like that. the last time I was with him the copper who stopped us said he was doing 115 mph. He retorted that he had only been doing 95.....this was on an unlit motorway in Greece with no headlights on the car. I haven't been back.
... not to forget Stanley Baker, Herbert Lom, Gordon Jackson of "Upstairs, Downstairs" and "The Professionals", and Sid "Carry On" James all sitting around here. What a marvellous cast, and quite an entertaining movie. =)
This is a great british film full of britishness, unique to the time it was made. nowadays british films have to cast a token american so it will make money over there. If you like this film you will also like the film " The Hill " again a great british film with a fine british cast made in the 60's, it's also in black and white so it feels correct for the era the film is set in, I hope you enjoy...J.
Patrick turned down Bond because he didn't want to be that "slick spy always gets the girl and shoots the bad guy" type. He could have been an icon (well, he already IS an icon, but he could have been a "big movie" icon), but he stuck to his guns. I admire him for that.
(And, in terms of the type of man I find attractive, I'd forever pick John Drake over James Bond, whomore often used his wits than a gun.)
Admirable man, and admirable actor (nothing against Connery tho, of course. ^___^)
Happy birthday Sean! A fun trivia: At the time, like on this movie, there was an expression about Sean. It was "the ritchest man at the poorhouse", a good one, but that no one jumped up and down about.. But that was before Bond.. I think he did good before Bond.. They did not regret their choise of Bond, hehe
Ohhh, I want to see that movie! I was in London just for a night (traveling through) in around 2004 and I saw they were showing this along the Thames or something like that. I thought how cool that would have been to have gone. I was way too out of my element and with others to have tried but I'm happy that I saw a clip of it now! Thanks!
Pat, here's wishing you a happy new eightieth year .You stuck to your princibles by turning down the role of The Saint and the role of Bond, and I get sick of the sight of Connery,Moore etc kissing the bond girls.Well done! Best wishes Robin from England who's looking forward to March 19,2007,Be seeing you.
He was in Guns Of Navaronne, died after knifing a German but not good enough to kill him, guess he played the tragic feeling tough guy. Typecast actor.
Yeah, this is an awesome flick, but I've not seen it on any channel since (not kidding) about 1980. Fortunately I bought a copy in England years back. It's great to see so many in it who became famous and/or legendary.
yes! this has em all in it!!, great stuff, Pat McGoohan RULES!!! wish he was in more films , i got Danger man recently, Bond rips so much of it off.Taaa
If you want to see good filmmaking, see this one. Get a region-free player and head to ebay for the DVD. That's the way I got it. Try to get the special edition with the Stanley Baker interview.

It's interesting that both Sean Connery and William Hartnell (from Doctor Who) are in this film.

Amazing how you don't even mention Stanley Baker in your description, even though he was the star of the film.

Its Stanley Baker he pushes around, Connery stays seated - They look very alike

Your're right. I was looking at the similiar hairstyles. They really do resemble one another.
