@ formatC2 no mototalk on my menu it doesnt appear im using an iden super agent and iden carrier rss but when i hit the phone read and shows the data of the phone i cant seem to find the MOTOTALK ENABLE check box it doesnt apppear in there am i missing something on this one and what software did you use? is there a software that i need to use for my specific phone? thank you again for your responds...
@kundiman082 hum ... sometimes it's called DirecTalk. I'm using Iden RSS Lab. I'm going to send you a link to the print screen of the software with the checkboxes.
okey nice video i have a question though i have motorola i325 IS from nextel but no more service i would really like to use the walkie talkie features is there any ways i could enable my MOTOTALK FEATURE thanks in advanced.
@formatC2 Thanks for the additional links. This information has inspired me to do a video that goes in to a bit more depth of how one may set up many i355s for DT/DC.
I wanted to add that when it is imperative that the quietest comms activity be used that a headset should/could be used. I have not had much time for testing yet but I think that many 2.5mm Headsets with PTT/PTD/PTA button will work and eliminate the beeps. I don't know if it will blow your eardrums out in the process yet.
The Verizon/Plantronics Mx250MCAE gives in the ear audio but the PTT does not work and I don't know if the i355 PTT lets the headset mic work. More later...
@sethp95 to turn off the LOUD Double-Beep (on the receiving radio) in DT...goto MENU> Settings> DC/CG Options> scroll to Alert Type, and select Silent. Hope this helps.
Although this doesn't eliminate ALL the beeps...it rids you of the "double-beep". :) JimmyG
I also use the i570's, no contract off network walkie talkie.
The only thing i don't like is all the beeping. that wouldn't be good for surveillance op's. I don't think they make headsets for those Nextel's. So what I did is find a few used Motorola DTR's on eBay and bought surveillance headsets for them. DTR and the i570 use the same frequency band (ISM, digital FHSS) and charging plugs but are not compatible.
@formatC2 Yea, Sat phone's are expensive but in rural America they are a godsend. All our SouthernLINC phone's have LincAround but they only have limited range, were all usually pretty spread out so having the option to call someone 30 or 1000 miles away is pretty darn good. My first Iridum sat phone was when they first came out with "decent phones" when I was a freshman in high school back in 05" and loved them ever since!
I pack an Iridium Sat phone, and all my relatives do along w/ Verizon and a local iDEN carrier. If worst case scenario happens and the damn sat's don't fall outta the sky at least Ill have direct contact to other iridium users. Our PSTN network went down due to tornados but SoLinc towers turned into SMR repeaters to Dispatch PTT to other Linc and Nextel users were working. But worst case the towers will be GONE :P

ONLY a Digital Receiver, (Very High-end, and Expensive) programmed for the specific Frequency and Spreading Code, will be able to receive the signals on these iDen phones. Great job on the video ;) Glad I could inspire you.
If you're referring to trying to intercept the Direct Talk signal it is possible. I can track the frequency hopping of my Direct Talk phones, but i can't decode the digital signal. The digital coding technique used is called VSELP. It is not encryption, but just one of many techniques used to change analog voice to digital. On a surveillance receiver Direct talk starts off with some data signals and then it sounds like popping. If I could demodulate VSELP I would be in business.
@RayAir1 - So, what you are saying is...I am right (like usual). =)
Believe me, I have friends in the right places who do this stuff for a living. Broad spectrum digital transmission = win. You might as well quit wasting your time trying to decode the transmissions and start grabbing these babies up if you don't have any.
I already own 5 of them (i570's and i355's) for Direct Talk use only. They work great in tough RF environments like on cruise ships and in large buildings.
However, if I wanted more secure comm's I would use my ICOM IC-F43GS UHF radios fitted with Transcrypt DES spectral rotation scramblers. The same scrambler being used by U.S troops in Iraq on UHF. Can also do DES-XL on VHF (Motorola Saber 3).
Cool video. I'm surprised this feature was dropped from newer phones. I thought is was a great idea. I've monitored those channels and never heard any activity. Great to use for tactical coms since FRS can be monitored much easier/
@mrfrogg91 tout a fait! c'est 'off-network', pas besoin de tours, de telephone a telephone comme des walkie-talkie. t'as juste besoin d'une carte sim pour acceder le menu.

@kundiman082 Isn't MotoTalk in your menu? if not, you'll need a data cable w/ software to modify your codeplug to enable it.

@HominisCura can't wait to watch you vid. I would be interested if you find a way to remove the beeps. subscribed to your channel !

@formatC2 The PTT does not work but the MIC (boom type) did. I have a Mic on the way that is designed for the HS.
Check this video out as it pertains to audio security (COMSEC)

sethp95 6 months ago
@sethp95 turn on, menu > My Info > Line 1: what ever you want > reboot.
to call from another phone, go into mototalk/directalk mode, type the number then call with the PTT key.

@highlanderhybrid aren't those sat phones expensive? are they on a plan? With the DirecTalk/MotoTalk you don't neet any towers ;)
