That rule is total BS. However, what would keep a gay man from saying no to that question? They are not hooked up to a lie detector or anything like that. Never the less, that law needs to go.
i dont understand. if they screen your blood, and if your blood is clean, shouldn't you be able to donate blood, regardless of your sexual orientation? people be discriminating subconsciously and making shit a lot more complicated. the fact that the news comes from fox makes this a bit bias too.
This is complete bullshit and idiotic, not that it matters but I'm straight looking, Im going to donate blood and them tell Im straight, just because I can :-) take that mother fackers.
you can get hiv-aids in any kind of sexual intercourse and it is more common with women. the only way you can get it through anal sex is if the person bleeds. well with vaginal sex you can get it through the lubrication liquid that comes out of women. the chances of getting that lubrication is a lot higher then the blood out of anal sex. anyways its not as if straight people dont have anal sex. this is really stupid and shows how backwards this nation is. even in canada there is this rule wow!
Gays aren't the only people in the 'high risk' category. For example, AIDS has been running rampant among African Americans. I wonder what would happen if they changed it and said African Americans are not allowed to give blood. There would be a shitstorm of controversy.
Everyone should be able to donate blood, as long as they care for themselves and take sensible precautions. I always use condoms when having sex, but know plenty of straight people who don't!
I want to help others by giving my blood, but currently am not allowed to under UK law. This is crap, and is just one of many crap laws.
I am a gay man. I fully support equality. However (and i stand to be corrected) my understanding is there is a window period where hiv can escape detection. A much higher RATIO of gay men have hiv in the western world than heterosexuals. That is a fact. I have watched people die in agony of aids and if there is any way to reduce the risk of it being passed by denying gays the right to give blood so be it. This is not prejudiced..just reducing the risk. I've seen too many people suffer with it
The FDA alleges the American Red Cross washed half a dozen units of red blood cells with the wrong solution. Although the error did not endanger anyone, the organization was fined $1.7 million for this and other issues. "These are very serious problems, and the American Red Cross is working to address them. But the nation's blood supply is perhaps as safe as it's ever been," said an FDA spokeswoman. The Washington Post (6/10)
In other parts of the world, we're seeing a movement to redefine blood and organ donation policy so that it measures risk against a set of behaviours, sexual and otherwise, rather than what amounts to sexual orientation. Spain, Italy, and Portugal have adopted this approach, and France and Switzerland are moving in this direction. Australia and several South American countries now allow men who have not had sex with another man within the past year to donate blood.
cause they will be in alot of trouble if they didnt told donor about . I sure it will be om media real quick all kind of people will be in trouble with red cross and doctors who ever knew .
alot of place have lifted the banned for gay people some places says its 6 months derfer and some other places says 12 months ;ike down under au. yeah I dont see promblem with it window period is 3 months what CDC saying.
