in arizona as a teen i had so many of these cute lil buggers as pets.. some i let go and never had a problem with them dying, mine ate termites and ants a plenty.. they were my best friends! you never seem to see any anymore but about 15 years back they were very plentiful, its a shame really as they are such little characters

When I was a kid my sister and I would wonder out into the desert and find them. I remember them being pretty easy to find as well. Quite interesting creatures. Oh, and that was in Texas.

There used to be a place that had em here in marlton nj, never seen them any place else. They are hard to find, but also very hard to keep. Eveyone I tried to keep in NJ died for lack of red harvester ants, when I lived in Texas I caught wild harvester ants and the lizard thrived.

they are illegal to sell and keep now,,,,because they are endangered,,,but when i was young you could find them almost anywhere in Texas/Oklahoma.

They rarely squirt blood from their eyes. They have to feel very threatened, even wild ones. Mine is nice and tame and friendly since he is captive bred.
