  • Thank you for your quick response. But does either happen when they are young or when they get older? thank you again

  • @mamasmitzi Usually as they get older the lungs and windpipe get worse. Sometimes young dogs can have severe hay fever or are obese or both and can develop the problems

  • thank you for this video. can you explaine or show me what the difference is between reverse sneeze and collapsed trachea?

  • @mamasmitzi There is a video on reverse sneezing. Collapsed trachea happens in some small dogs when the windpipe becomes weak and actually flattens during coughing to make everything worse. Asthma, chronic cough, and being a toy breed lead to a collapsing trachea.

  • Is there a follow up vídeo for this dog? How did she progressed?

  • @galfurion I am so sorry, I typed the wrong reply. She did not pass away. Most dogs with asthma and heart conditions improve with medicine. The problems can slowly get worse with time, but the medicine helps them feel better!

  • I have had 3 dogs with this problem and it was never fully explained. Thanks for explaining this!

  • @monicahaver Glad it helped out! Thanks for watching!

  • Thank you for being kind enough to post videos such as this.

I work for a local vet, one that once would make payment plans, but after loosing thousands he can no longer do that. I viewed your follow up to a posting and totally agree that it is awful that vets can no longer offer those options, but running a clinic isn't cheap. Pet medications can be just as expensive as human medications. I wish we could help people who can't afford services, but if we did our clinic would go under very fast.

  • @0nlyhappywhenitrains You know how traumatic and emotional practice is. Just trying to show people what we do and that it isn't always pretty or easy. I choose my charity cases, but can only help out when it makes sense.I also advise people to feed differently to avoid some common medical problems at dogdishdietcom. Check it out and let me know what you think.

  • why don't vets have payment plans and a reasonable fee? i believe all vets should be regulated!!!!

  • @dragulations Vets are small business people with lots of expenses. Many people abused payment plans in the past, so most vets don't offer them. There is pet insurance and credit cards. I grew up poor and couldn't afford a vet, so we had to do the best we could. You really mean affordable care and insurance, not regulation. All the machines, diagnostics, and employees is making it hard to make ends meet. However I understand where you are coming from

  • @DrGregDVM was Mariah's breathing like this all the time or only during exertion? My pom just started having this problem, but it only happens when I am walking her. :(

  • @SteeleSpun It usually starts just during exercise, then can start happening during normal activity

  • At dogdishdiet website the dosages are in the practical home remedies to the right of the blogs. You have to put in your name and email address for the link, Don't worry no spam. Benadryl and claritin are about 10mg twice daily and once daily for a pom

  • what is the recommended dosage of antihistamine for a pomeranian? I tried finding it on your website and could not. Thanks!

  • the heart is in jail!! ur awsome dr greg!!! :)

  • @Cflynn16 The "rib cage" hold the heart "prisoner" while protecting it from harm. Thanks for watching and commenting

  • @DrGregDVM I know....I just loved the way u put it! it made me laugh!! big fan of ur vids!! I am learning alot.....which is good cause I am a newly graduated vet assistant...so the more I learn the better!! thanx!!

  • @Cflynn16 Glad you enjoy the vids.Glad to hear you are embarking on a rewarding career. Learn to anticipate the diagnosis and don't internalize the drama that you do not need to.

  • Ugh, I gotta convince my parents to bring my pomeranian to the Vet because it breathes hard like mariah. My parents might not want to because they say it's too expensive but I'll convince them :)

    Great video doctor

  • @Rambo1447 You might want to try half of a claritin (loradatine) from the pharmacy daily first to see if it helps

  • I enjoy your videos - you have an excellent teaching style

  • Hi Dr. Greg!!

I just wanted to tell you how much I love your videos!! I have learned sooo much from them. I really hope you continue to post!! Your videos are very interesting. How often do us NON veterinarian people get to see what goes on behind the scenes!!! You have brought us VIP access to behind the scene footage!!! I love it!! My son even likes to watch your videos and he is 7 years old, I am hoping you can be his inspiration to becoming a Vet someday!! : )

  • @beckybrite09 Thanks, I love to educate so that everyone understands the thought process, the tests, and how different symptoms look. I am glad your son is enjoying these videos too. My job is wonderful except for the times of death and drama

  • @beckybrite09 Thanks I have always tried to provide practical explanations for common or complex medical problems. I use this method everyday with clients and even in my book Dog Dish Diet. Nutrition is so important but is plagued by anecdotes and myths

  • Aw, poor Mariah! She's such a beautiful girl. I hope she gets better!

  • @reaperette I hope so too! She is taking an antibiotic, diuretic to get rid of fluid in the lungs, heart pill to help the heart work better, and prednisone to help get rid of inflammation in the breathing tubes, or bronchi of the lungs
