she did not end up in a horse drawn caravan , she lived in a very large villa in wales given to her by a wonderful fan , you are quoting from the mail and they did not do there home work as always ,but yes Rupert Murdoch was entirely responsible , in hind site dot should have let it go over her head , but all the work stopped , and she wanted to clear her name , and then she was fleeced, made some in suits very rich .
Friends of the late singer Dorothy Squires are pleased by the crisis facing media boss Rupert Murdoch. The fiery Welsh chanteuse sued him over an article suggesting she had sold the intimate story of her marriage to 007 star Roger Moore, when she hadn’t, and over a 1971 allegation that she had bribed a BBC radio producer to play her records on air. She won both cases, but ended up bankrupt and homeless, living in a horse-drawn caravan. ‘I hold Rupert Murdoch entirely responsible!’
She was a brilliant lady she use to be a friend of my Mum, she was funny & classy, & it's a shame that the stories don't cover the love & happiness she gave to many over the years with her wonderful singing!
she was human and we all have off days Judy could not sing a note when out of it , but you new it was there, i saw dot live 10 times she always gave 100 percent i do no she came to the local club where i lived in1969 was one hour late shouted at the girls for washing the glasses at the bar loud they shouted back you should have been here an hour ago lady they slow clapped her but after her show she had them on there feet clapping her that was just dot
I remember going to a Sunday concert in the Villa Marina, Douglas, Isle of Man, in the late 1960s. Bob Monkhouse was top of the bill, with Dorothy Squires as Nº 2.
It was immediately obvious that she had been drinking heavily, frankly she couldn't pitch a note and gave a dreadful and embarrassing performance.
So much for being a professional!
The great pity is that I enjoy hearing her belt out these songs, but I cannot forget the only time I ever saw her live on stage.
To all the poeple who say they dont like the sax player johnny gray , you are talking crap , dot new by adding johnny grays talent to her version that it would add some thing special that is why only hers and franks got in the charts.
uncompromising, a woman who really sang with soul. I consider myself very fortunate to have seen many live concerts which demonstrated her ability to sing a whole range of songs often very mellow, a compelling performer. She knew how to make an entrance, how to captivate an audience and bring them to a standing ovation. I wish some of her concerts had been filmed for posterity for these events were the essence of this multi faceted and special star.
@dindoxal noticed this comment came form someone from romania , strange i wish you could hear the noise some of your lot make with them acordans begging out side my house .
This has to be the worst version of a modern classic song that I have heard! What on earth is the saxophonist doing? Miss Squires struggles to hit most, if not all of the high notes. Not good at all. A very poor, sad and half botched attempt to sing a song that is so well loved and known.
@wadders2010 name me a sing that atcheved and would always be remebered for what she sung and how she sang with pasion and paid for it out of he own pocket
@mrrk this is a welsh sing she even beat bassey im a bassey fan old dod whats bitter at the end but as the song sayes she did it her way thats the way she liked it

I think the sax player should have been killed during the song.

She is the greatest singer that Britain has EVER produced and it was a huge privilege for Jeanne and myself to be considered her friends.

edgy and barely controlled, but powerful. That's what Dorothy Squires was all about.
Shoot the sax player though.

@clevblue the sax player in those days was Johnny Gray whose pedigree included a period in the Ted Heath band
