Thanks for the Tutorial, I was wondering if you could lead me to a tutorial that will teach me how to take a person and suck them into an object. Thanks. ImwithSmee@gmail.com
Thank you for the tutorial. I've been trying to get this right, but I have one problem. I don't have trapcode at all. is there a way to do this without TC Shine? Thanks.
@hyacinthdibley I've got much the same problem and am trying to figure out how I can do the colour change without Trapcode. Any help would be great. Thanks for the tutorial!
@callyboy82 In a word: no. The machine has to do alot of work creating these effects and teh render time will go up or down depending on the specifications of the actual machine itself.
I usually set my renders to happen overnight therefor I lick render before I go to bed.. wake up and there it is! :-)
Im 4 Mins 40 into the tutorial, and everything is plain sailing so far, except one thing. Once you put the null object in, you started to resize some stuff by hitting a control on your keyboard [im guessing it was because your mouse didnt hit anything] and the null object got a little black dot on it etc, and you managed to open some little boxes on the composition too. How can i do this?
Oh, and forget the comment from earlier. I got it all sorted out =D
Hi Jon. Quick and small problem. Im on Composition 2, and ive made it a different colour just so i can see what im doing, because of one problem.
The little preview image of the composition in the top left looks like its 1280 by 3000, but on the actuall screen thingy mcwhotsitbob, its just 1280 by 720. Any buttons or anything i need to press to actually have it looking like 1280 by 3000?
@FireChestProductions not a clue, sorry, might be a button has been pushed, just reset after effects to factory default and try again, look up on google how to :)
@chasla99 This is more to do with your version of After effects and how you installed it, without that info, I cannot help, and Im not promising I can.
@4DFuturist yup, I knew that :P I thought I played with it in the video, the reason why I duplicated the tunnel was to give control over more elements of the vortex look :)
Erm... well. I want to make stuff like this, but first, is this Adobe After Effects CS4 or Adobe After Effects CS5?
Cos CS5 doesnt work on my computer. So if its CS4, can you find a link with a trial of After Effects CS4? I've been searching for it for ages! Lol ?_?
@TheLunarEclipse8 Umm I dont see what being British has to do with this, plus I have said in a few other comments that this is CS4, I think I might of said it in the video.
I have no idea if you can find a trail of cs4, probably not as its out dated now,
plus if CS5 dosnt work on your computer then im afraid it might be time for a system upgrade
cheers for the tutorial! i've been looking everywhere for a software to make things like 'the vortex' and things but i never knew what i could use! so i will now get adobe after effects and try it out haha :)
@Anermay Great tutorial, but I have a slight problem with it. I'm running CS5, but I can't find CC Cylinder, which is what you use about halfway through the video. I'm stuck unless I can find it. Does CS5 come with CC Cylinder or do i need to get that elsewhere and add it to the program?
@eddie2000 CC Cylinder should come with CS5, there it should ether install with CS5 OR be on the extra installation disc, take a look at the emails from adobe with the product key or on the install discs, it should be there.
However getting CS5 at this stage is a very BAD idea due to the fact half the plug-ins need updating to 64-bit only, so maybe Cid-Core (CC) havn't yet created an updated version.
Try getting CS4 instead, as CS5 is a lot of trouble at the moment, for plug-ins :)
Oh, sorry. just read you comment about staying in the 6th form, well, I'm having EXACTLY the same problem, terrifying. Problem with me is, I unfortunately go to the 3rd highest ranking school in Britain, which just adds to nerves. Anyways, have you figured out a way to make the vortex twist yet? I've just stumbled upon a method which seems to work, but I'm not sure how it will look when finsihed, wondering if it is a conventional method.
@Anermay Look , im sorry i snapped - I'm in a really tired mood since iv'e just finished my exams and now im stressed over getting my prom outfit sorted and going to colledge opening day.. its a nightmare O.o

Iv just finished my AS exams and I am also stressed about if I did well enough to keep my place in 6th form,
I still say that the idea is you do a'bit, stop, move on, stop, etc, Its done at a pace similar/if not the same to most other video tutorials, just try maybe turning up the volume and playing around in after effects.
@NeoHaseo579 yes it can be done on cs3, but seeing as CS5 is the newest version available, I think it does have all the the elements, so your better off getting that
One question... How can I fix the duration of the white particles "beams" at the beginning?. For example, start from nothing to the start of the particles spread and finish without opacities... like the video ends in the middle of the particle spread. You understand me xD?. Thanks :P
Id say move the Particular layer over so in the comp window you can see the stars forming, then extend the end of the layer so it fills out the hole video space, :)
If its not clear what I mean then I recommend going to Video Copilot and watching the Basic Training series, that should explain it better :)
this is the video I've been looking for! Thank you so much for posting this! I have one question though-How would you bend the vortex so it's wavy like a Doctor Who opening titles, so you don't see aorund the corners...?
@gallooo64 aha! yes I was waiting for this question, :P
As far as I know bending the tunnel isn't possible in After effects, however if you play with the camera or use vector blue you can create the idea of a spinning vortex, but if you want the effects of the 2005 titles especially then your gonna have to move into a 3d animation program Maya, Lightwave, 3ds max, there are a few tutorials on Google that cover it :)
Sorry, last thing, can I just ask, more out of interest than anything else, is that star field at the start some kind of Mr. Mercury effect? I've been trying to find away to "stretch out" the stars like a hyper drive effect, a bit like this...
Actually, no, sorry, I know what i wanted to ask. We are essentially making the vortex move, by basically zooming into the end of the vertex, yes? Soooo, how would you make a vortex whereby you never reach the end?
Hey :) First off, sorry if you get this comment twice, not sure if it got posted last time, my internet failed just as I hit "post", so I thought ask again :)
I have a very odd problem, and I'm sure it's a very simple and mundane fix but, I've never encountered anything like this before. When I make the new comp, I don't get a nice black screen, I get the "transparent" white and grey squares, and i can't add any solids etc. Any idea what has gone wrong and how to fix? Thanx :)
Great, thanks, nice to meet someone as helpful as you, I'll get hypercam out and do a video for ya, I think it might be more useful than a still. Sorry in advance, by the way, as soon as you see this your going to realise the stupidness of my stupidity!! I'll send you a link when it's up.
@SuperRichi1A CC Cylinder is part of the Cide-Core effects disc (I believe) I think it wasn't bundled with CS3 or below so for a CS3 user I'm afraid its a 3rd party plug-in,
Thanx, yeah, I think I've actually figured it all out now, it turned out I had a load of CC and CE stuff living on my AE disc, going unnoticed, so it was bundled, I was just being a stupid-arse, sorry to waste half a minute of your like lol ;)
