  • Can anyone tell me if there is a better graphics card that will fit in this mac, and if so what? Thanks in advance...

  • What kind of ram is it called? I also want to upgrade to 4GB ?

  • Do all the MacBooks come with two ram chips of 1GB? Cause I think mine has a single 2GB chip...

  • Can you give me a link to the actual memory please?

  • Just ordered a 4gb upgrade but i was wondering if it would delete my files such as music ect.. thanks

  • @NathanBrownUno

No, thats on your hard drive

  • Help me, Ive upgraded to 8GB of ram. But I want to ask, is it possible to make it 16gb? Thanks

  • Dave, I also have the MacBook Polycarbonate. What part of the Mac could I touch to static discharge myself since the body is made of polycarbonate?

  • @InspectorGadgetTV Just performed the upgrade to 8GB. Used an anti-static wrist strap which I connected to the copper pipe of my radiator to ground myself.

  • Thanks for informative video. Really helpful!

  • Do I have to perform the upgrade before I start using my new macbook? Or can I upgrade the memory at some point later on down the line when I decide, and if yes will it affect the things I have saved on my macbook already?

  • @HulaKiki You can upgrade whenever you are ready.

  • @HulaKiki It shouldn't effect the files you have saved, but with any upgrade you should always backup first.

  • Do I have to perform the upgrade before I start using my new macbook? Or can I upgrade the memory at some point later on down the line when I decide, and if yes will it affect the things I have saved on my macbook already?

  • Hi, i have the mid 2009 MacBook, how much can i upgrade the Ram? and it have to be 1067Ghz version or can be 1333 Ghz? Can u help me? Thx!!

  • it sit properly and i called apple store it say usually recognise 4gb but 6gb is a good news .. so i wonder why people said it can be install 8gb...

  • my macbook 2010 doesn't recognize the ram when i installed the 8gb ram and it will beep at the start up with blank screen. anyone have any idea about it? it only recognize 6gb ram...

  • @p3ngtay2 Did yoo install 2 2gb of rams and maybe the problem is one of the rams are not installed properly check again..

  • my macbook 2010 doesn't recognize the ram when i installed the 8gb ram and it will beep at the start up with blank screen. anyone have any idea about it?

  • hi there i have the same macbook but it only can recognize 6gb of ram, when i insert 8gb ram it start beeping with a black screen...

  • Thanks a bunch!!! RAM is successfully installed!!!

  • Hi, I have the apple macbook 2.4 Ghz white unibody, bought in january 2011, I went into the crucial and apple web pages and they both recommended a maximum of 4 Ghz... who should I trust??? (I really wish the 8gb max was possible...)Thanks

    Fernando

  • @fernandoARuiz Well, if you are unsure ring Crucial first, but 8GB worked fine in mine.

  • @davomrmac I Tought that 4GB was the max! :D

  • @fernandoARuiz Also, just double check which model you have.

  • @fernandoARuiz I was also unsure about this since I was thinking of upgrading my macbook (2.4 ghz) too, and the official specification listed a maximum of 4 gigs. However, if you upgrade to the latest firmware for snow leopard, the computer will register the full 8 gigs.

  • Hi, i have recently bought a Macbook White exactly like this one. What i wanted to know is, what are the specs of that memories? Are they Crucial 4GB 1333Mhz DDR3? Thank you

  • I have the 2010 unibody macbook aswell 2.4GHz and I might upgrade the ram. I have been looking around and it says this model of macbook can only hold 4gb not 8gb please help!

  • so the maximum RAM memory upgrade is 4GB or 8GB? and is it also possible to increase the storage momory ( so u can store more music and other stuff in ur computer) someone please help me!!!!!

  • @whsdg00 On this model 8 and yes you can replace the hard drive too with a larger capacity.

  • @whsdg00 I was confused about the same thing. The maximum APPLE SUPPORTED memory is 4gb. (That means it won't void your warranty.) The actual physical limit of the computer is 8gb. I hope that helped with the RAM question. :)

  • Can I use a cotton towel as an anti static mat?

  • @DomWhite1997 There are two slots, 1GB in each, so if you buy a single 2GB your max would be 3GB installed.

  • this might have been asked already or it might be in the video, but i was just wondering if you have to buy ram that is "apple certified" on newegg i see 8gbs of 1066 ddr3... everything that macbook needs in terms of specs and then theres a list that says macbook and then the ram goes up in price because it says its for the macbook specifically... at the end of the day one says its for it the other states that it works for the macbook but not macbook ready

  • @r0yallty Not 100% necessary, but might just be less problems in the long run.

  • great video..do u mind telling me allthe stats about the ram sticks.. like how many pins they are and stuff.. al i know is its ddr3 and 1066mhz or something so do u ming giving me more infor about it thnx

    - edanbarak97

  • @edanbarak97 If you use Crucial Technology they tell you the stuff about your memory with their configurator.

  • @davomrmac Could you tell me how to do it without an anti static mat or strap (is it really necessary?)

  • @boyurismo You can just charge something metal to discharge any static electricity you have, perhaps part of the outer casing. Best thing is a mat or strap though.

  • I like your videos, they are about the unibody white MacBook, and so far, as far as I know, you haven't sold it for a MacBook Pro.

  • @A135S4656 Check out my channel for MacBook Pro and MacBook Air videos :)

  • Good afternoon I got my mac in 2010 and went into the apple shop to see what my mac could do. I was told 4 gig only but i see your vid and you have done 8 gig

is it really better 8 than 4 as your video showed only a little more performance

    James

  • Hi! Is there really a visible performance upswing in using 8GB of RAM than 4GB in this Macbook model?

  • @tronjhiem79 Yes, much snappier.

  • @davomrmac Brilliant! Can't wait to upgrade mine :D

  • hey dave, i'm interested in doing this upgrade that you did, i just got my 2010 macbook and i've never wrkd on computers before. when i swap the ram do i have to download any software or anything like that for the ram or is it a straight forward install and turn on the computer and that's it? also, i see everyone saying that you can only install up to 4gb yet you did 8. what is your take one that? if you can reply that will be a big help cuz you seem like you know wut ur talking bout. thanx!

  • @DrifterErik Yes sure. Install and turn on is all that is needed. Crucial removed the link to the 8GB kit on their website, so ring them and tell them you watched this video, what model you have and they will make sure you get the right modules.

  • @davomrmac ok will do, thanx for replying so fast

  • On the apple website it says you can only go to 4gb, i dont want to waist my money, what should i do

  • @BlackDogZepp same ended up buying the (4gb ram 2xRAM of 2gb) for 75.99 but I wanted the 8gb but i didnt want to waste my money.

  • Does this erase anything off your Mac and does this affect the harddrive?

  • @Jazlynn405 No it shouldn't do, but as with all upgrades it is best to backup first.

  • im looking into buying one of these at the end of february... thing is, theres been a massive discussion over the RAM limit. i see you put 8GB in this one and the old 2008 unibodies now have the firmware support for it too... but the october 2009 models apparently do not support 8 GB... just to comfirm this before i buy one... can the May 2010 white unibody macbook hold 8 GB of ram without any 'cock ups' thanks.

  • @JoeCanBreathInSpace Well, all I can say is, this is a mid-2010 model and it had no problems with the 8GB. Whoever you buy the RAM off, get their assurance and then at least you could return if you do have issues.

  • Three questions: 1.- I'm thinking in buy a white macboo (like yours), and i want to know if i could upgrade to 8gb 1333 mhz memory or just to1066 mhz; 2.- you have any trouble with the memory, because in apple.com says that this mac only use 4gb of ram and 3.- can i install a 500gb 7200 rpm hdd? Thanks, and sorry if my english is bad.

  • @garfieldshame Either memory should be OK, but just check with who you buy from about compatibility. No problems at all with the RAM I installed in here.

  • what memory is needed for this macbook? could you provide a link to the correct one from crucial thanks

  • @TransformingTech I ended up ringing them.

  • what is the model number of this macbook?

  • can you provide link to where to buy the ram becuase i am not sure which model i have when using the link in description bar

  • @adamthemadman I ended up ringing Crucial.

  • If i where to do this upgrade do all my files and apps stay the same or do i have to back everything up? I am not so fast here so i hope you understand what i am trying to say

  • @hypermonkey3 You should always make a backup of your files before doing any upgrade. This memory upgrade should not effect them though.

  • does 8gb ram work with macbook ???

  • @charalambous94 Yes, the latest one.

  • @davomrmac at apple website is written that 4gb is the max.

  • @charalambous94 Well it worked on mine.

  • HI Dave

What screwdriver do you use? Where did you get it from.

  • @PavleP1 It is a Kamasa which are quite hard to find now, google or ebay is your best bet.

  • Hi Dave

I have a Apple MacBook 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (13-inch DDR3) MC207LL/A Laptop/Notebook. I was wondering if I could fit 8GB of ram in it. I went to curical.com and it said 4GB. What should I go for.

What type of screwdriver do you have and where did you get it from.

    PavleP1

  • @PavleP1 Ring Crucial, they will sort it out.

  • Is Crucial the only company that makes mac memory?

  • @MyWonderApple No, there are others, but Crucial guarantee compatibility.

  • @davomrmac Ok thanks and also do all ssd drives work in a mac or is there specific brands for mac?

  • @MyWonderApple None specific, but Crucial and Kingston are pretty good.

  • @davomrmac Ok thank you. You've been a big help. Happy Holidays!

  • Can You Use One 4 GB Memory "Thing" And One 2 "Thing" GB Stick?????So You Will Have 6????????????

  • @iLoveeApple Should be OK.

  • @davomrmac hey what are the specific chip names i want to put in 4 gb of ram in mines and how much are they in america about ?

  • Hey men. What is the name of the song?

    please!! (:

  • Wait, is there like a specific memory chip you should be adding? Because all i am seeing on the website is one for the Macbook Pro, so is it compatible with the normal Macbook?

  • @TheLostRelic Pretty sure it is the same and compatible. As always check with Crucial first.

  • Hey how much are these cost each? Like 20 quid? And were can I buy them?

  • I have a 2gb of RAM in my macbook...its the white unibody macbook with 2.26 processor...i thought i can only upgrade to 4gb of RAM. If I installed another 2gb to give me an overall 4 gb of RAM...would I remove both of the sticks

  • @GONAVY26 Check in system profiler, if you have two memory modules installed, then yes you would need to remove both.

  • I went on the Crucial website and can't find 4GB chips for Macbooks, so the most I can find on there is 4GB total.

Also would they ship to Australia?

  • @Freshbott2 They do have a Aus site I think and if you ring them they will find you the right part. When you find the 2GB chips, just search for identical spec 4GB modules.

  • @davomrmac Found it, thanks!

  • im going to buy my 1st macbook tomorrow :)

  • @anipz90 Congratulations, you must be excited.

  • @davomrmac definitely !

  • Do u lose everything on your old ram if you do this like softwares aplications etc

  • i am confused to i thought the same thing they only get 4gb because i am getting one in two weeks and i might get a ram upgrade

  • @midnightBMW You need to ring them and they will find you the right part.

  • @davomrmac i know where to get 8gb of ram now go to owc.com

  • Im confused I thought this macbook can only be upgraded up to 4gb?

  • @msbeatrice1986

4GB is whats officially listed by Apple, but it can fully use 8GB as well.

  • hey can you possibly give me the link to the specific ram thing, because I have spent a while trying to identify the right ram online, but there all slightly different, so I am unsure which one to get. Can you show the right one?

  • @sneakytanderson Sorry I cannot find it. but when supplied it was the 8GB kit product CT1226773.

  • wait i thought macbook whites could only take 4gbs of ram

  • @yellotheemcee 8GB in the latest one is fine.

  • @davomrmac then how come on the website it only says up to 4 gb?

im not trying to question you im just trying to make sure eeverytings right ebfore i go blow 150 or so bucks on 8gbs of ram. and iono if it could be different since im living in the US instead of uk

  • @yellotheemcee Well, to be sure I would always say check with Apple or who you are ordering from before spending your money. I have the 2010 MacBook in this video, the 8GB installed fine and when I show the system info it registers the 8GB RAM.

  • @davomrmac fair point and tahnks for the help

  • Wow I didn't realize how easy it was, I thought you'd have to go deep into it, it's really a click, remove, insert, push process - wow do this to mine when I get it!

  • @xXxpavmanxXx Thanks for watching, glad it helped.

  • Great vid as always dave

would u recomend this laptop with the memory upgrade, or the macbook pro 13 for something like video editing

  • @jakhr They will both perform pretty much the same. I would go with the Pro though for the firewire and SD card slot.

  • does it have a sim card slot?

  • @Agaliciouss No.

  • @Pepelushe Well, I am typing on this MacBook now and it works fine for me.

  • Great video but the upgrade from 2gb of ram to 8gb looks like it doesn't provide that much of a performance boost according to geekbench

  • @gmaster45612374 The performance gain is really apparent when running multiple apps.

  • will this void the warranty?

  • @Alex8Tech No it won't void the warranty, unless you physically damage the slots or other components during the install.

  • 49 points constitutes a big, big improvement?

  • you know you can press shift + command + 4 then press the space bar to take a snapshot of a single window on the mac os x interface.

  • Hi dave! I use Linux however i fancy an upgrade however I don't have that much money and time. Plus I am looking for a desktop and a screen. What do you suggest. I want a good screen though.

  • Is it smart to open up the my MacBook Pro to get rid of some dust?

  • @JTHed93 If you do it carefully, mind you don't get stuff behind the screen though, this is a no go area for me.

  • @davomrmac wow ! thanks for a so quick answer :O

I'm just planning to open up the bottom cover.

  • @JTHed93 I have done that many times with no problem. Get a good work surface, keep all your screws safe. I never use compressed air (just my preference) I always just use a little air blower and mini vacuum. Good luck.

  • Music is kinda like from pimp my ride :D

  • can you by any chance do a review on the turtlebeach x11 headset?

  • @hokko1 Sorry to disappoint, but I have tried to get hold of one lots of times, they don't even respond to me at the moment.

  • Will this work on the macbook pro unibody?

  • @supermovies88 Yes, totally.

  • @Awessomeblossom Forgot to answer the 8GB thing. I think Apple only officially support this MacBook up to 4GB, but it definitely 100% takes 8GB. Even OWC sell 8GB kits for it.

  • @Awessomeblossom Crucial are a long time sponsor, the memory is loaned to me, or I purchase it.

  • Great vid as usual! 8gb of ram nice but could you have bought a macbook pro 13in for that money inc the memory upgrade? If not you must like the white. Are you going to upgrade your new 21.5in imac?

  • @adamsbil1 Yes, I could have a MacBook Pro for the same money, but this is the same spec as the lowest model and a bit cheaper. I do like the white design too :)

Regarding the 21.5 iMac, yes I will be upgrading it to 8GB RAM.

  • @Awessomeblossom The capacity is 8GB. 4GB would be fine though for most tasks.

  • You always get such nice stuff sent to you, Dave. Lucky. Nice review as always.

  • @xC4Rbonx Cheers.

  • @davomrmac i wouldnt say "impossible" its difficult, trust me i know from personal experiance :) ive done this to my macbook pro rescently. was quite difficult. do you fancy uploading one of my vids to your channel? about installing mac osx on a PC

  • @RebelPwnage Fantastic news, message me about your video.

  • What program did you use

  • @blaixx992 Geekbench 64-Bit.

  • @UKJP2008 This would be near on impossible.

  • my geek bench is 7988 Macbook pro 15 2.4ghx 4

  • didn't you have a mac pro or macbook pro? (I feel like I've seen both in your older videos)

  • @TheDonAtlantic Yes, I did, but change regularly between loan machines etc to bring you more reviews.

  • I like the video just shows that even more memory in an already semi powerful laptop is beneficial. I have a early 2010 MacBook Pro and my benchmarks are not that high. Great video! Sorry I chewed out the other guy in a comment like 5 secs ago i would understand if you did not aprove it.

  • i would love to upgrade my macbook pro. but i think it's quite expensive. Is it really worth it? i would upgrade from 4GB to 8GB

  • @ProportaReviewsUK Definitely worthwhile.

  • Please change your opening music. Hate it:)

  • @gebruikersnaam999999 Please change your name because its too long and I hate it. Why you ask because i'm a incompetent person who wasted precious time in their day to watch a video without being asked too then i'm too ignorent to comment on something useful. #FAIL GTFO NOOB!

  • @gebruikersnaam999999 Totaly agreed, xD

  • ï ordered mine yesterday.

    cant wait

  • can you do this with a macbook pro obviously in a different way. Also how much is 2 4gb of ram?

  • @vLeOv Yes, you can do this with the Pro. 8GB total is around £180-£200.

  • @davomrmac thanks dave

  • Lucky You!

  • Hi Dave,Wicked video,That was cool of crucial to send you that 8gb of RAM for your MB,bet it's running lightning fast now ?,so how is the MB performing now that you installed an SSD + RAM ?,Great video BTW Loved watching,Very well presented :)

  • i was abt to say about y ur not using anti static mat or straps and banner just came up saying have static mat and strap lol!

  • @iconicproducts

I have built 4 computers and worked around with many laptops, and never used antistatic strap, and never had any problems.

  • @iconicproducts what do they do and where do you get them, im wanting to make my first build for a pc and i want to make everything so it works as it should

  • @CJxSPRAYER Somewhere like Maplin or Radio Shack would do them.

  • @davomrmac and it just removes the stactic from your hands so its safe to touch stuff like the MoBo and harddrives, oh and thank you on your PC build series, thats what made me want to build one :]

  • @CJxSPRAYER Cheers.

  • pretty cool I just put in 8 gigs in my gateway
