Who in their right mind would bother to dislike this video? It is what it is and I for one love the nostalgia of old time strongman. A close family friend used to be chief engineer on the BBC coverage of this and WSM but I didn't know at the time. Having come late to the sport I only realised when I saw his name on the credits of old shows.
This is such a great part of strongmen history. Nowadays you see so many pumped up fellas who are obviously doing some sort of roid use, just look at all the participants here, pure strength, big blokes who train hard. It`s been asked numerous times: The second song is also by Bad Company: Seagull! Those 2 songs fit the video perfectly and make even me train harder. I got almost Capes` frame, but`ll never gain his strenght, I`m afraid! Pure legends!
Too bad the audio was disabled- to anyone watching it now, I recommend listening to Bad Company (by Bad Company) while watching. It works so well with the vid, makes me wish I was around in those days.
Yea that was the main goal of Strong Man. It has evolved allot since then. Today it's an very exiting sport with people from all over the world and allot of pure professional strong men.
Back in those days only the cream of the crop were invited , most of these guys were Olympic Athletes in other sports you had to already be someone to get invited
Niel McLatchie (Marvs Dad) still is a very good bench presser he still trains, one brother was Scotish Powerlifting Champion and Carlton was British junior judo champion & strongman compeditor

To add to that there were no strongman specialists it was more a case of pitting one strenth sport against another.

True. That was the main goal of Strong Man. It has evolved allot since then. Today it's a wonderful and exiting sport.
