@mercanadasi1988 for better exposure of the thyroid gland and the surrounding structers as u can see its a large goitre and we dont do this in all operations
@mercanadasi1988 I think the size of the goiter convinced the surgeon there would be fewer complications if they just divided the straps rather than trying to dig in there and work around the muscles. Not to worry: after the surgery is done, they just reconnect them with absorbable running sutures, and after a while the muscles (and swallowing, etc.) are good as new. Infrahyoids aren't spring loaded like the biceps or gastroc. You just reconnect them no problem.
I just helped with a lobectomy this morning. A couple of comments: 1. Why do they suture the skin flap to the drape or whatever? Holding the skin flap is why God invented medical students. 2. What a shame that he had to divide the sternohyoid and sternothyroid muscles. That must be one heck of a goiter. In my surgery, we had no trouble accessing and freeing the thyroid after retracting the straps. 3. I'd like to see the 90 minute version where he ties off all the little blood vessels.
I had a partial thyroidectomy done... thank goodness it was in the US... and luisenrique25med... wonder if a med student... moron doesnt know how to spell Iraq...
man I'm glad my dad didn't go thru this...wish I could come out okay for my operation soon
