The term African American is one of the worst term in todays language. At the end of the Civil War only 2% of all the blacks in the USA were born in Africa. That means that 98% were born in the USN, that makes them native Americans. My great grand father and great grand mother were from Ireland but I don't call myself an Irish-Canadian. Which riot are you talking about? 43 or 67? The first was started by rumors from the police saying that a black man had raped and killed a white woman, the second riot 67 was a raid on a blind pig joint on 14th street were police were brutal towards the blacks in those neighborhoods. Police were corrupt in those days as many are today. Everyone has failed to answer the question of justice. What would U do if the law that was suppose to protect U didn't, but abused you because of race only?

The PBS documentary "Beyond the Motor City" gives a fair idea, and the BBC documentary "Requiem For Detroit" also gives an overview, although I believe their work on this subject to be a bit more sensationalist.
The short story is -- 1.3 million people (more than half) left, and the remainder are doing what they can to make the best of it.

The term African American is one of the worst term in todays language. At the end of the Civil War only 2% of all the blacks in the USA were born in Africa. That means that 98% were born in the USN, that makes them native Americans. My great grand father and great grand mother were from Ireland but I don't call myself an Irish-Canadian. The term causes a lot of problems in attitude.

When you move into a nicer neighborhoods, bricks are thrown at your windows and crosses burnt in the front yard, so you must move back out of fear for your family.
