However, the cows' male babies taken at birth are still either tortured for months in crates for "veal" or slaughtered right away for other bloody mess for people to scarf down and clog up their colons and arteries. I will admit that the way the calves are treated is terrible and they shouldnt be treated that way. But as an ag producer i will also say that they always only show the worst cases of brutality, if they would show the way livestock is treated on other farms it would create a better picture for agriculture,and the way that livestock is actually treated. they only show the bad things. I agree that this is wrong, but i just want to let people konw that most farms arent like this.
@jet2010jt I think it could be less brutal at other places. I can't say but for me the one thing that doesn't change is that all these places use the animals for profit and then slaughter them at some point. That alone is unacceptable to me.

I just know that i have been involved in agriculture my entire life, and i know that i would never do this to livestock. The things that are shown in this video are terrible, and its the things like this that give ag a bad image, but i will also say that not all farms are like this.

Have a friend who is a dairy farmer.Have seen it up close several times. He sees his cattle as his biggest asset and treats them accordingly. His reaction to this was that such farmers should be shut down and punished. What worries him more is the impression that all farms are run this way.

No cattleman or dairyman in his right mind would kill a perfectly healthy calf or even a sick calf. They are worth way too much money. These calves were terminally ill and many had feet that had frozen off. It would have been more cruel to keep them alive. Most ranchers and dairymen practice great husbandry ( good treatment of animals). Keeping the animals healthy, content and comfortable is only good for them and their keepers. If you've never had livestock it's a very hard thing to understand.

More science and thought goes into cattles care because the less stress put on an animal is by far more profitable. @CDLver I'm not saying that no abuse ever takes place BUT looking at this video it appears to have been staged by Mercy for Animals just to get the reaction they are getting. At about 48 to 50 seconds into the video they are showing a calf being burned. They were TRYING to make it look as if the calf was being de-horned with a branding iron BUT the iron was placed way off target...
Ask yourself why it took more than a month from the time of filming to the time it was made public? If this was really happening, and IF MFA REALLY wanted to stop it, wouldn't they have publicized it immediately? Just the way this video has been edited I would say that the cameraman was probably giving direction to those idiots so that people like you can have an emotional knee jerk reaction condemning the whole industry. However, the cows' male babies taken at birth are still either tortured for months in crates for "veal" or slaughtered right away for other bloody mess for people to scarf down and clog up their colons and arteries. Often baby calves are skinned alive for calfskin leather. Sorry for the misinformation, but all slaughter is evil and rotten because we don't need it.

I will admit that the way the calves are treated is terrible and they shouldnt be treated that way. But as an ag producer i will also say that they always only show the worst cases of brutality, if they would show the way livestock is treated on other farms it would create a better picture for agriculture,and the way that livestock is actually treated. they only show the bad things. I agree that this is wrong, but i just want to let people konw that most farms arent like this.

I agree that the people doing this should be punished, and that any farm that operates like this should be shut down, it is pretty brutal the way they treat the calves. I think survellance cameras would be a good idea, then it would also give a chance to show that not all farmers are this way to the livestock.

Have a friend who is a dairy farmer.Have seen it up close several times. He sees his cattle as his biggest asset and treats them accordingly. His reaction to this was that such farmers should be shut down and punished. What worries him more is the impression that all farms are run this way.

No cattleman or dairyman in his right mind would kill a perfectly healthy calf or even a sick calf. They are worth way too much money. These calves were terminally ill and many had feet that had frozen off. It would have been more cruel to keep them alive. Most ranchers and dairymen practice great husbandry ( good treatment of animals). Keeping the animals healthy, content and comfortable is only good for them and their keepers. If you've never had livestock it's a very hard thing to understand.

There truly is SO much the public does not know about all the circumstances that happened here. I raise cattle and while the video is extreme and I don't agree with what happened, there is alot people don't know. E6 is very close to where I live. The employees who did this were Illegals and while the owner knew this he DID not know what they were doing. The video made me sick but the calves' feet had frozen off due to a brutal winter storm we had. The choice of how to put them down was poor.

Yes, it is always best to get all sides of the story. We can only hope that humans treat animals with respect and the humanity they deserve. (They are dying for our sustenance, and I do try not to WASTE or overindulge in eating). I do eat beef, but stories like this make me more particular regarding the source of my meat. So, it is best to put your information out, but with calmness. If you treat your animals right, then you should be rewarded....

FYI - several states currently have proposed legislation to make the hidden camera recording of animal cruelty illegal, to make the distribution and/or possession of such videos illegal, etc. Clearly heavy-handed anti-whistleblower laws to protect just the type of business practices in this video.

I do agree that a pick axe or hammer is a very poor and slow way to kill a sick and crippled animal. But dont blame this on the industry of "factory farms." More science and thought goes into cattles care because the less stress put on an animal is by far more profitable. And with todays demands of u.s.beef there is even more pressure from the economy to either get big or get out. And until every U.S. family raises there own beef you simply wont change the industry.

At about 48 to 50 seconds into the video they are showing a calf being burned. They were TRYING to make it look as if the calf was being de-horned with a branding iron BUT the iron was placed way off target...
