  • Ancestors of the dingos, aren't they? The migrating people brought these or very similar dogs to Australia where they've then developed into the dingos over tens of thousands of years? No? : )

  • Seperated for 30000 years? Or did she say 13000? Anyway, not true, according to genetic research of the last years it is not more than 5000.

Virtually unchanged? They lived in the mountains and should not have changed there?

The only thing that they do right is that they say tat they are dogs, of course not domestic dogs. Yeah right people saying that have no definition of a domestic dog.

  • I'm like this dog I don't like small kids and I don't want to live with more than 1 person

  • I want one. They are so cute <3

  • awesome dog

  • "This is such a rare, beautiful fox-like-"...wait is she talking about the dog or herself? ;)

  • Those here who have expressed interest in owning a NGSD should google NGSDI to find our website. An adoption application can be found there. One of the two pups seen in this video is available for adoption. She (Lexie) has the white blaze and is now 3yrs old. They are the ones seen playing in the fenced grassy yard and wearing their tags. The other pup (now 3) may be expecting and we already have pups that will be avail after Dec 7th. Photos are on Facebook

  • As soon as he said jackal it reminded me of the Family Guy episode where Stewie is playing Pictionary. "Jackal! Jackal! Jackal! Its a jackal! Jackel?" "NO ITS NOT A BLOODY JACKAL. IF IT WASN'T RIGHT THE FIRST TIME WHY WOULD IT BE RIGHT NEXT 10 TIMES!"

  • our dingoes in australia were said to have originated from this breed and were brought over to Australia some 40-60 thousand years ago

  • Check Out My Singing Dog!!!! In The Search Box Search Oink239 and BOOM! Youve Got A Singing Dog!!! Come Check It Out!

  • Alot of these in southeast asia (Myanmar,Thailand)

  • THEY CAN CLIMB TREES!

    AAAAHHHH!!!!! YEEEESSS!

  • TWO FUCKING COMMERCIALS? FUCK YOU YOUTUBE!

  • @TheCheekinDudes I got none.

  • I am watching this episode right now

  • This is very unfortunate. As a specialist in feral and pariah breeds, as well as a Singer owner, I would like to correct this piece by stating that Singers DO make great family pets, though would not be recommended for families with infants or crawling toddlers. They're incredibly easy to train and far more biddable than suggested. Singers are highly social in a family or household setting and we've found most do well with other canines, though caution is warranted with other puppies.

  • Where have all the singing dogs gone

    long time ago

where have all the singing dogs gone

gone to zoos and rich people's houses everyone

    when will they ever learn

    when will they ever learn

please.... just leave them alone.... do we have to ruin everything we touch??

  • @liveanddream - Keep dreamin'. If we leave Singers alone, they will indeed be gone - as in "extinct". A distinct and unique class of canid (taxonomically speaking), Singers are very important from a genetic and scientific standpoint. "Captive" breeding programs are critical.

And to all: RESPONSIBLE breeding is the key with any breed. If your dog is not of excellent conformity needed to contribute to the breed, please remember to spay or neuter your pet.

  • @EdenCreekWolves you're a creep

  • Leave the wild dogs alone don't put them in captivity. They are rare!! They are wild.... don't ruin how beautiful wild dogs are. Do we have to ruin everything???

  • this segment is pretty much saying here's a New Guinea Singing Dog, now fuck off cuz you dont get one

  • It's long-haired 1st cousin, ( long lost bros? ), is Wolf, and 2nd cousin runner-up, Coyote.

  • i want one so badd but i really dont wanna be a bad owner.........

  • nice!

  • They say it lives in the wild like a million times!

  • They say it lives in the wild like a million times!

  • i dont know. but here in the philippines there are some stray street dogs that look like these dogs, but im not so sure. they are called "askals" from the words "aso" means dog and "kalye" for street(s). in english street dogs. we used to have one of these and sings/howls everytime the balut vendor passes riding his bike and honking or when an ice cream trike's tune playing. i miss my jinggoy

  • I just heard on radiolab that these dogs used to be domesticated but then (re)evolved into wild dogs!

  • watch out american idol hahahahaha!

  • I wanted to hear these dogs after listening to a Radiolab short about dogs.

  • god... cut out the damn music and let us hear the freakin dogs!

  • I'd love to have some of those! : )

  • Its interesting how the breed that has not had its breeding style altered by humans is extremely healthy and has almost not genetic defects.

    Haha people suck

  • Awesome-

  • they are soo beautiful!, 15-20 years? damn thats a long time. and is it me or do they look almost exactly like shiba inu's?! O.o

  • they r soo much liek dingos :) haha btu dingos r a little diff these guys r more like mixed breed dingos

  • Dog... this is THE dog.

not those mutated freaky ones that needs human intervention to stay alive for 24 hours >.<

  • @DOX9500 there are more breeds than just this one that are real dogs and not mutated freaks who can't survive in the real world. check out jindo, kai ken, shikoku, tibetan mastiff and a few others

  • this dog is cool

  • I know somebody who has pure breed pups ;) 2 of them are all black. and the numbers they claim are BS. There are more then 100 in captivity.

  • @d3tach3d i think they are basing those numbers on the number of "registered" pooches. not the actual number alive today,

  • how interesting. a dog with the same characteristics as its original ancestor. a living fossil.

  • nine people are fuckign stupid.

  • Well,

    Could you get one anyway?

    If you can,

    Where?

I would love to get one when I'm older.

    This dog is just...

    Amazing.

  • i no but ther so cute

  • That dog can climb better than I can, and humans are a tree-climbing species. I fear for our futures.

  • these dogs are actually not bad pets, i live in Australia and i have two and they get along fine with other dogs!

  • @parked08 I'd get one but I think the howling would be too annoying for me.

  • this would be a fun dog, but im more of a great dane and other monster sized dog fan lol

  • (My dog bailey) Bailey can sing :D

  • This reminds me of my dog, shes a mutt someone abandoned in our backyard.

  • aw i want one i wish there was more! and i hope people who have them breed the to make the population wider, so this beautiful breed doesn't die out

  • looks tight af

  • - to it. Don't let PeTA idiots fool you. Instead, research zoos and make an intelligent decision about whether the zoo is up to par.

  • wow lol This dog is not suitable for families.......its suitable for living back in New Guinea...............how the hell did it end up in a cage in USA

  • Hey there!! I Loved your videos. When's your next one coming out? Please let me know. xxxx

  • its a dingo.

  • reminds me of a basenji

  • They're pretty and funny

  • They remind me of Shiba inu dogs! Which is also an ancient breed. Beautiful canine.

  • I WONT ONE SO I CAN SING WITH IT ALL DAY, i wonder if it can sing micheal jackson

  • wait... wtf? i have the rarest dog in the world?

  • @kmathisk doubt it

  • @kmathisk doubt it

  • can you see the look on the face of the fireman, when you called and said i cant get my dog out of the tree lol

  • I want one :3

  • I have two new guinea . They are so cute !

  • It's like trying to live with wild wolfes :)

  • No health issues, no need to be groomed, and independent.

My toy poodle is such a weakling... its kind of sad that we took hearty wild dogs and turned them into sick lap dogs that need babying.

  • @Huapua wise words!

  • @Huapua On the other hand, the poodle won't see kids as prey items. This canine is only a "dog" in the broadest sense.

  • @TacticusPrime

True, but perhaps some dog breeds shouldn't exist. Like those with smushed-in faces.

Many of the domesticated breeds are plagued by genetic diseases because we have selected for traits at a price.

  • @Huapua That's for sure. It's just like in human families, the more genetically similar a population is the more it is prone to diseases.

But our ancestors certainly did right by choosing the gentlest wolves to bring into their social circle and to thus propagate those genetic characteristics to future generation. Without our dog allies, humans would never have been so successful.

  • @Huapua The same thing could be said about people.

  • @Terrakinetic Not really since the traits in dogs were artificially selected by humans.

  • @Huapua Each to thier own, i prefer Toy Dogs to these wolf/jackyl like hounds....

  • @Huapua You should have a talk with your breeder. My 3lbs toy poodle bosses my rottweiler and dalmatian around and is intelligent, wilful, and inventive enough to keep everyone in my family on our toes.

  • @happyjellyfish Actually, 3 lbs is considered sickly for a toy poodle unless yours is a very young puppy. Mine is about 10 lbs right now.

I did not say toy poodles are dumb - in fact they are very smart; I said that they are dependent and weak in comparison to a wild dog such as the one in this video. You are kidding yourself if you don't think poodles need regular grooming and are not genetically prone to health issues.

This new guinea dog is much more independent and generally healthier.

  • @Huapua No, she happens to be the runt of her litter. She's 14 and healthy, thank you.

I don't see the point of your bitching to be honest. You're comparing a companion dog that used to be used for water retrieving to a wild dog that hasn't even been tamed yet. You might as well compare cats to rabbits, and it would be equally as pointless. If your dog is such a sick 'weakling' get yourself a mastiff.... and enjoy the hip displasia.

  • @Huapua No it is not sad that we turnt them into weaklings. Becuse now they need love when they are such weaklings. My french bulldog would not be very fun if it didnt came to me for playing

  • @Huapua A dog is not a car, its a living breathing creature.

  • @Dasneezequeen I'm not quite sure what your point is. I did not say a dog is a car. Perhaps words confuse you?

  • @Huapua That's why standards are the best, They ARE a working dog.

  • dog of indonesia , I suppose

  • this video just points out to me that a wild animal (like this dog) can take care of itself, why? because it's here today, it's been surviving by itself for 1,000's of years. the complete opposite is true for animals that we have been domesticating for 1,000's of years (like other dogs). they cannot survive a day without a human. they always get sick. they require lots of medications. they die young. domestication seems to have turned dogs into pansies because of dependence.

  • i agree with tweetyrock1, why does everything thats supposed to be wild and free have to be put in a zoo? i'd just rather learn about it from afar.

  • how can they be wild when they were hanging out wit thos pantsless guys?

  • @leviamenra

They coexist with the natives but they aren't considered to be their pets. These dogs are just smart. Probably like the ancestor wolves of dogs they realized an easy way to snag a meal was to help humans out. So that's what they are doing. If those humans left tomorrow they would survive on their own. You probably don't see them in their homes with collars and leashes around their necks.

  • holy fuck 15-20 years screw it if their wild they can bite me all they want as long as they dont die on me !!!

  • I wanted one but...O well

  • I love these! I have 2 of them! My dad is president of the NGSDCS (New Guinea Singing Dog Conservation Society) Their singing gets annoying after a while, though CB

  • @TheAkaTenshi are you for real

  • lol singing dog i love it. jumping on three like a cat. awesome

  • Live 15-20s and have virtually no genetic health problems. I love dogs, but this kinda tells us how breeding has really screwed our canine friends over.

  • Awesome dog. I want one.

  • omg Indonesian dog, I'm indonesian :)

  • All animals were wild at one time or another. At this time, no they do not recommend keeping one of these dogs, but in the future things may change. Look at the skunk, ferret, timberwolf mixed breeds. They also said that there is no health issues like most pure bred breeds. Whether this is because the wild dogs genetics are stronger or that they've not been monitered enough by us. Someday I would like to own one.

  • omg people all dogs used to be wild and they were once domesticated so get over it. They were gonna start domesticating this breed somewhere in time, and they're not even suggesting you get one, this was just shown on there "rare breeds" episode.

  • We thought my dog was part shiba inu part australian cattle dog and we just found out hes a singing new guinea... no idea how we got him, but he also isnt purebread. Hes an amazing pet

  • At the beginning of this whole episode which aired Dec. 5th 2009 Season 2 ep.7 at the 27 sec. mark is a black dog with a white chest. Can anyone please let me know what kind of dog that is? Please please the video is at Amazon you can view it for free. I have to know what breed that dog is. Thanks for any help.

  • they look like coyote-fox-dog like type

  • They are so cute. And this program telling us "don't keep these as pets" and then showing us the dogs romping around someone's house and backyard is just teasing us!

  • I went to a zoo in florida, and the singing dogs wouldn't SHUT THE HELL UP!

  • Why don't you try breeding it with domesticated dogs? Try to civilize em more.

  • @kop4321 they want to preserve it as a pure bred.

  • they look more like coyotes to me

  • "wooooooooooooo" "sho wap sho wap" XD

  • im going to get one to piss animal planet off

  • like 9 people missed the "like" button because NO ONE could not like this breed! THEY ARE ADORABLE!

  • Great, very informative love this video! Thanks!!!!! Howls to ya! Dark Wolf

  • then its not really a dog is it

  • I never knew about these little rascals until I saw this! They really ARE rare! P.S really adorable too.

  • @therese1593 just stop ur crap with asian women man.... asian woman, black woman, white woman, woman is woman man..... whether they are from one continent to the other, let them in peace for christ sakes

  • Wild dogs should not be kept as pets. If you wanna keep a wild dogs, might as well get an African Wild Dog which is also rare.

  • this isn't a ordinari dog, this is a DINGO, wild dog from australia..

  • @chinoplata1

they just said they have a separate mutation that the dingo doesnt have, which suggests that they are older then the dingo...

  • If these dogs are so primitive they should ONLY be fed raw, the way they were supposed to eat. Not the bagged crap they get fed.

  • why is everybody putting up bad comments about these... its giving u the guidlines and it even says theres not many in captivity... i dont see the problem..... as long as the dog is happy.. im sure theres plenty of other dogs that are more ild than domesticated but theyr still happy arnt they !!!!

  • We do Asian marriage service now lushfmlk.info

  • There was a man found on tuesday nov 23 who had 85 of these. There are now believed to be about 235.

  • They're beautiful dogs, yes, but they seem more suited in their environment because nobody is making an effort to really domesticate these dogs. If they're not suited for home life, why have one? It seems even more risky than a wolfdog.

  • My Dog Sings when the Bells of our church ring. and wow it sings better :O

  • omg! i want one and then id be all ur sooo cute babbyyy! and it would be all RAWR! and eat me.....

  • Best dog ever!

  • {{{{{{abc27.com/Global/story.asp?S=13467700}}}}}

breeder illegally housed 84 New Guinea singing dogs. Let's get these dogs to good homes

  • These adds are killing youtube. I'm starting to just close the videos when they start playing the stupid ads.

  • holy shoot! my dog is a mix of that singing dog, shiba inu, and other stuff but he definitely sings, has the tail of one (we as in my family just thought he may have some wolf in him because of his back and tail markings) and he has the body shape but the daintiness and lower body markings of the shiba. wow my dog is part rares breed in the world. that is my favorite dog! they are so beautiful.

  • they do look similar to our aussie dingos

  • looks awesome. can jump high and can sing.

  • they remind me of my basenji with the head shape

  • It's beautiful! I love that howl! Just wondering tho, if they're not to be kept, what the heck are they doing in America? Sitting in zoos? Shame... they should stay in New Guinea where they can run around in the jungle.

  • @TweetyRock1 Don't you realize that zoos have saved individuals of and raised funding for hundreds of endangered species? They also provide a home for species like the African elephant that otherwise would be culled.

Zoos have come a long way. They're no longer too-small cages for lonely, understimulated animals. Yes, the wild would probably be better stimulating, but it's not all it's cracked up to be. Of course zoos can't exactly replicate the wild, but they can provide man-made alternatives -

  • omg. O.o i wish my lil puppy could jump thru my arms.

  • cute

  • sooo like, the sons and daughters of the 2 original ngsd's had incest?

  • They must be the breed line of my long hair chi because he sings exactly like this EXACTLY unbelievable..

  • they are basically basenji's

  • @anonbud No...they aren't

  • @Mephis1967 yes they are

  • Cute but clearly a dog from hell

  • @intralemma lol

  • On another note, though the NGSD's may have some link to the Australian Dingo, though possibly being older in existance and have a mutation that the Dingo doesn't.

Looking at the wedge shaped head, longer canine teeth than other dog breeds, as well as carnassial teeth and cat like flexibility, I'm wondering if it's not more closely related to the Tasmanian Tiger.

  • Comment removed

  • @MuscleArtist Unlikely, as Tasmanian Tigers were marsupials. Marsupials and placental mammals (such as canids) cannot cross-breed. Marsupials diverged from placental mammals ~110 million years ago whereas NGSD were isolated from the greater domestic dog population only ~30K years ago. It's more likely the NGSD has retained characteristics (such as the teeth) common to early Canis lupus familiaris while most domestic dog breeds have lost these features.

  • It sounds just like howling.
