Orcas are highly social, mammalian animals who are among the most intelligent.
Any species that takes active care of its helpless offspring --- offspring some of whom needing years of care by the adults to reach maturity --- who live in groups HAD to be very intelligent.
Both Great Whites & Orcas have immense brute force as top predators, but the latter is more intelligent and, thus, more calculating than the former. Head to head, & if they're about the same size, there's no contest.
Why would a marine biologist specializing in orcas only study the habits of those in their own neighbourhood? That would only give you a half picture at best of their habits and diets. It's a well known fact that in New Zealand the orcas there have been hunting sharks for their livers since day one. Perhaps the orcas here are finding out what the New Zealand orcas have known all along:those shark livers-rich in iron, vitamin C and A, make a tasty and highly nutritious item on the menu.
Now this is what should make you scratch your head. How does the killer whale knows that by turning the shark on his back. Make the shark unconscious. Hmmm?
@withataman01 Trial and error maybe? Saw something else do it? Maybe it saw a shark turn itself on it's back, or maybe it was just chance! Who knows! I'm just waiting on the Orcas sprouting disposable legs and walking on to land to eat humans, then get back in the sea and own some sharks. Thank God I don't live near the sea. :/
I feel sad to see the creature that was thought be be the badass of the sea, lose its top spot. The great white is actually now the big softy of the sea...turn it upside down and its just a punchbag.
LMAO AND CA2 WAS 14 FOOT,!!! A BIG MALE ORCA WOULD SMASH THE SHARK

It is nice when the hunter becomes the hunted.

@peaceofheart12 Well no, I wouldn't say "nice". Something getting killed is never "nice". It's nature yes, but I would not say it's enjoyable.
