@jimmy0412 Mati Klarwein. In May 2004, the album having reached one million sales, the Klarwein family received a platinum record on behalf of Mati. (Mati passed away in 2002.)
I believe it is really a stretch for the typical human mind to comprehend infinity. Time bids us all yet time,Time was,heh..Time Is..Ha! And Time cannot extend beyond itself unless you transcend it, which sounds paradoxical but it actually is a very clever way to make us buy more watches.Any way , when you get there call me uo , you can sleep in the guest room and we'll work out your physical concerns as need be.
My favorite tune on this album, gives me goosebumps ! its just so friggin cool and spooky ! Timeless jazzy jammin' ! Great music gets me going without any other form of stimulation. Pure Magic !
A huge influence on Jerry Garcia...he (Jerry) is quoted as saying Bitches Brew helped shape his musical style...this is the ultimate improvisation...thanks for posting!!!!
Thanks for posting this one, PerryCoxPF93. I bought this record album when it was first released and have always loved it. Sadly, I no longer have the album or even a turntable to play it on. It was great fun listening again to a song from one of the greatest albums ever released.
It's always seemed odd to me just how alike jazz and progressive metal are. They have their obvious differences at first glance, but they both seem to respect the same principles - odd, yet freeflowing structure, irregular time signatures, experimentation, and an everchanging sound. I think jazz and progressive metal fans worldwide should unite and create the "Metallic-Jazz Committee". Or the "Our-Artists-Actually-Make-Music-For-The-Purpose-Of-Making-Music Association".
@davethehostage Lol, can't be that wrong, I also adore Progressive Metal and Jazz, there should be way more bands that combine Jazz & Metal! (for example "Suspyre - Reign", "Atheist - Elements" or "Demonlord - Kill the Lord", these songs are what I'd like to hear so much more often)
@davethehostage well, thats not just progressive metal, but a lot of the more complex progressive rock bands, like The Mars Volta, who by the way take huge amounts of influence from Miles Davis.
Regardless if I have a wide range in musical tastes, ahem...metal, I still love every second of this. I don't know between this and Mahavishnu Orchestra, I'm going to go with this for now.
……. Thanks for the heads-up, Iris, & thank YOU, PerryCoxPF93, for the upload. Anyone who wants to learn more about the artist who painted the LP cover, go to Mati Klarwein Art (dot) com (slash) en (slash) surrealist (dot) htm … Awesome œuvre of psychedelic art he left us. Enjoy y'all ~ (•8-D
Im listening to this track right now,i must say the version im listening to is substantially longer,20 mins to be exact. I have the 4 disc set, brilliant worth owning.
Duke Ellington said the only kind of music he was interested in was music that was 'beyond category'. Bitches Brew is beyond category. miles said the only you come up with something new in music is if you take the best musicians around and make them play beyond what they know. Play outside of their comfort zone. Many of the musicians on this session said the only time they knew what was going on was when Miles was playing. Teo Macero's post production is as pivotal as Miles horn..
I've never really understood the fusion label as applied to this album. when I think of fusion I think of bands like return to forever and the mahavishnu orchestra, with complex time signitures and complex arrangements. this music it totally unlike that. and while it had electric instruments and launched the careers of numerous fusion legends such as chick corea and john mcglaughlin, I see it as the logical extension of his freer and modal sounding 2nd quinted. which is in no way to say that
I'm 29 and just listened to Bitches Brew for the first time. Honestly a musical reawakening for me. Listening to anything else in my album collection is totally redundant now with very few exceptions. This album made everything else sound a little worse, if that makes sense. Totally life changing. Why didn't I listen to this 10 years earlier?
@seign ha I feel you man, almost all music prior to the late 70's is pure music. no auto tune or shallow lyrics about stupid bullshit. this was when music was about emotion, not about business.
@seign Because, if you did listen to it when you were 19, you would probably never really got to hear the real, profound, disturbing sound of Bitches Brew. It takes some piece of mind to understand this piece of art ;)
@seign How about even earlier.Talk about life changing. I was fledgling musician with Partridge Family and Jackson 5 records. Then for my 12th birthday, my uncle gave me this.
@seign Try with The Soft Machine's "Third", Gong's "Angel's Egg", John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" or Miles' "Jack Johnson"...congratulations for your reawakening!!!
