hey... nice video and it helped me alot but i just wanna ask i have an acoustic guitar and i'm currently practicing on it and i dont have an electric guitar right now(but i'll get in the future) so when i play scales my picking speed is what u play at 2:23-2:25 so is it possible to shred on my guitar or do i need to have an electric to play what u played in the beginning of the video
@bobashraf The strings on the acoustic are much harder and twangier than the softer cleaner sounding electric strings. The action on the acoustic is higher so it might be harder to do it at the 12th and 15th fret positions. If it's too difficult, then shift the same same pattern down some frets and play it. If you start shredding on an acoustic, (which is hard), when you get an your electric it will make things much easier because of the softer strings/lower action.
how did you get your left hand to move so fast? because I'm feeling like the speed that i'm going is as fast as i'll get and i'm going really really slow.
If one cannot play something slow, even tempo and articulate? They will not be able to play quickly. Walk before you run folks. This guy knows his stuff. Sooo many players try fast before truly understanding slow.
You could try angling your whole guitar upwards, kinda like a classical guitar player. Also, try keeping your fingers cupped. That's what works for me anyway. :) Maybe your guitar is a bit too small, though. Either way, practice makes perfect.
just wanted to thank you so much for this lessson. i started usning muscles in my hands that i didnt use before , i can tel cause they are getting sore. im gettin alot better at my picking as well. thanks your a blessing in my life. rock on
a good addition would be the exercise, slash teaches, going down the harmonic minor scale. just browse youtube for "slash warm up", its a 57 sec vid. then you have one exercise going up the mixolydian scale, and you can directly go down the harmonic minor scale afterwards. sounds tasty and is a great addition to this one
I used to hold my pick at a angle but I found I didn't get as much emphasis from my notes and found it more difficult to play fast on the single strings, although it is easier to switch strings holding the pick at an angle
thats a micheal kelly guitar the model is patriot active. very good guitar and is affordable. my local shop has the same one without the graphics for 599.00 i believe. i want it very bad. has emg 81/85 combo
why doesn't he mention muscle memory and the importance of being completely relaxed when playing fast? No one mentions it and its wrong cause without that knowledge youll get nowhere
wanna know something i've always hold my pick opposite to that like instead of right oriented angle i have a left oriented angle on my pick which holds up great but with right it just feels differentes does it matter if it's left or right?
not a fan of freakin 64th notes or whatever they were inthis video depending on the tempo (sounds like a broken video game to me), but the picking stuff was useful i suppose
@SeifIsInTheHouse Using economy picking you would pick every new string with a downstroke. This way you avoid "going around the string" with your pick to do an upstroke when changing strings and it also sounds smoother... This lesson was all about alternate picking though; in fact he was mainly focusing on using upstrokes when changing strings. Petrucci and Gilbert use altrernate picking. Malmsteen and Frank Gambale use mainly economy picking. Try to hear the difference. Hope it helped :)
