  • look at these morons bashing on each other because they can't accept that there are people out there with different opinions.

  • There's something beautiful about standing on a street corner playing music for donations. It just makes the world that music more beautiful.

  • seriously, this is not about music, it´s about busking, making tourists and shoppers feel so good that they wan´t to give you money, and i think he´s pretty good at that, yust look at his "hat" and all of your arguments are invalid

  • Back in 2002 I was visiting Chester and I had the fortune of coming across Ed busking, and bought one of his CDs. Unfortunately it got lost in a move some years ago. I loved that CD :/ But anyway, I still maintain that he is the best busker I've heard/seen to this day.

  • Why turn this into a religious debate, enjoy the music and save the other stuff for an appropriate forum.

  • It's things like this that make my cynicism falter.

  • is this disney land or does eurpoe really look like this lol?

  • @chiken070707 Yes, some towns in England look like that place.

  • This made me smile for the first time this week ( :

  • Im throwing my money to the screen but nothing happens...

  • What century is this from? lol

  • im going to have to buy an electric violin now. it sounds amazing and the power that it has is absolutely remarkable.

  • One only die's when they lose their Purity, their Soul, and above all, their Hope, for Hope guides all. In times of Peace, War, Desperation, and Fear, Hope rises above all Human Characteristics, it makes Humans... I randomly thought of this entire thing just from listening to this music, beauty =3

  • @vladic1212 behind all the beauty in this world is a loving God and this music is a small but wonderful testament to that truth

  • @PrayforVocations333 how is Ed's music in any way related to god, did god write it, no, did god influence it, no, beauty is not down to god at all, heres something that will suprise you, god isnt real, hes part of a story told a couple thousand years ago or so, if god is real he will prove it right ? wheres the proof ?

  • @srimera if you can't see the beauty of God in music like this, as well as all around you, then you are blinded by pride. The fact that you got so upset by a comment that wasn't even directed at you speaks fathoms of your character. Grow up my friend. I'll add you in my prayers tonight that at the very least, you might learn how to be cordial with those you disagree with instead of a pompous ass. God Bless.

  • @PrayforVocations333 i see the beauty of music in music, not god at all, i see the thought and concentration put into the piece of music by the person who wrote it, for you to say its god is a joke, so gods beauty is in hitler eh ? he was a cracker of a guy, but it was gods plan right ? your the pompous ass lol, if you want we can further explore the non existance of god, but you may not like it, and please dont pray for me, i dont want to see you waste brain power praying to a non existant god

  • @srimera then you prove in yourself what I already claimed. That you are blind. And Hitler is a bit extreme to use as an example of anything but Hitler doesn't disprove God. It proves the dangers of what might happen (on an extreme level) to those who live without God or worse, think themselves above God. Praying has never once hurt anyone so I'm going to pray for you anyways. There is more to life than you and your prideful disposition of ridiculing that which you don't understand

  • @PrayforVocations333 hitler was extreme in his views, but if the christians are right, he was part of gods plan all the same as any other person, thats kinda fucked up if you ask me, no one can be above god because god is non existant, do you belive in hobbits? dragons? zombies?, no, but you belive in god ? and you say i dont understand lol, the "bible, is flawed, your only way out of it is saying its gods will, thats like saying, "to be honest mate, we have no fuckin clue".want to carry on ?

  • @srimera its your standing that has the claim we have no fuckin clue. Those of faith know what we believe. All you have are theories/speculation. Like everything in the universe just happened by chance. If you look at something as chaotic yet structured like the human body, and tell me it was all chance then you're the one that is at a loss my friend. The Bible is important to every christian but it isn't "all" Christ taught which is why we have the Catholic Church ;-) God Bless!

  • so your saying everything in the universe was created by god ? but god came into existance 2000 years, maybe a bit more, yet its been proven that the universe has taken about 13,750 million years to evolve to its current state, its a big diffence is that, i think the guy who imagined up god got it wrong, maybe through lack of knowledge, i mean if god was real he would have known this right ? thats a huge hole in your god theory right there lol

  • @PrayforVocations333 as for the human body, lets look at fossil records, one thing sticks out, evolution, life as we know it started out as single celled organisms, taking billions of years to evolve into intelligent life, well not that intelligent, some of us still belive in god..... but you get my point, why does he make physically and mentally disables babies, thats just fuckin sick mate, what about murderes, pedos, rapists, muslims, why did he make those ?

  • @srimera free will my friend. all of us are capable of murder yet we're not all murderers. If we all were rapists and murderers then God wouldn't be just but that's not the case. And why are some people born with physical or mental diminishing? Why are some people atheist when the signs of God are in everything all around us? Just because someone is born different from you doesn't mean that they are any less loved than God. You're seeing the world through judgemental eyes

  • @srimera God doesn't prioritize people's value in terms of their physical capabilities or whether or not they are mentally diminished. You can fill that emptiness in your life with all the material things you want, but you'll always be missing something. That something is God and though you're too prideful and arrogant now to consider it, I pray, in time that you'll understand this and make yourself right by Christ. You are a child of God and God loves you my friend. That is a fact.

  • @srimera did you ever think that he has proven it? maybe your very existence is proof? The cosmological constant is 10^53, that is the number of things that MUST stay constant in order for life to occur. To argue that God isn't real and is a story is more laughable than thinking there MIGHT be a God. Your body is so complex and so ordered that for it to have just happened is idiotic. What argument do you use to support your opinion? nothing.

  • @Music13Vampire therefore your opinion must logically and necessarily end with you. To me what you just said equals me saying this "i like the color purple." You see? it's just an opinion that you stated. If you disagree with someone that is fine but if i were you i'd come up with reasons why you don't agree instead of just spouting the opinion someone has poured into your little brain and indoctrinated you with.

  • @Music13Vampire my body is complex because of god, really, so it wasnt hundreds of millions of years of evolution ? wow, its clear now, god must exist !! your a muppet, and the story of god is more laughable, its as flawed as the story of santa, 4 billion people can see it clearly, but you cant, so, my friend, god proved nothing, where did he mention evolution ? what about the 4 billion year gap in the bible ? exactly, no one told me god wasnt real, i found out for myself, but thanks anyway :D

  • Ive played Violin for about 5 1/2 years, and cant play anything as wonderful as this piece of gold we also call music =3

  • Such wonderful music...it soared right to my heart! Thank you Ed for sharing your gift...and thanks for taping this Cognaut, and making a million over people so happy....

  • U guys sure this is on earth? :O

  • yep, i'd cry like a baby right in the middle of the street.

  • I like the top comments more the last time I watched this one hundred times.

  • woahh thats amazing

  • if anyone has the sheet music for this, i need it.

  • Does Ed Alleyne-Johnson have his own you tube channel or website where he has all his songs posted so you can listen to them?

  • Where does Ed Alleyne-Johnson live? Is Chester his home city?

  • @sanfranciscobay I believe he lives in Liverpool which is only about 15 miles from Chester. Check his background out on Myspace. To see him a long time go have a look at him on Youtube on Mal Pope Series 1 Prog 3 part 1b

  • I live here ^^ and I've seen him and my college is on the other side of the river dee yay

  • Like I'd this made you cry :')

  • 2:28 when the distortion kicked in...... indescribable

the whole performance sounded like pure zen. just so amazing and inspirational to say the least

  • 1:00-1:30 EPIC

Much better than the studio record....

  • 1:50 Don't record the freakin' pigeon!! Get back to the AWESOME VIOLINIST!!!

  • @Mickster2233 Sorry, but don't be so fucking stupid! This is NOT an 'awesome violinist'. This is childish playing, BUT, with several loops making it 'sound' more than it is. This is very simply quite amateurish playing. And...all he's doing is waffling around a couple of scales following a stupid bass loop.

All that's amazing about this is the electronics that can SO fool those who know nothing about violin playing. Really, he's less than one of my 10 year old students playing for 1 year.

  • @gidgetsdigitalgadget It's never about the skill level, it's about the feeling and the music... You should know this :/

  • @lofwenmark, of COURSE it's about the feeling, but there isn't any in this. Feeling HAS to come from ability too. Without ability, no feeling can be transmitted. It's like if you had something important to say but couldn't speak properly: nobody would understand you.

But really, using those effects masks his bad playing.

Nobody should be encouraging this kind of mediocrity (at best) due to the problem of engendering more of the same. A good violin player wouldn't need those effects.

  • @gidgetsdigitalgadget

What matters is that this musik touches me.

Its a matter of taste about which one cannot argue.

You cannot judge about the taste of other people

    Taste is never stupid.

I have a friend who plays classic violin for his profession in a orchestra.

He is quite good so they say, bud I don't like his classic musik.

  • @TheBertieW, but musical 'taste' isn't inherent in people. One has to get educated and understand music before it can 'touch' you. Especially when it's obvious you have no idea whatsoever about music. You spout stuff you've heard and say you're 'touched' by this. Maybe you just fancy what's in his pants!

I'm TELLING you, this ISN'T (is not) music per se. Music has to be more than just a random collection of notes (willy nilly) with no quality to it. Surely! I listened again and it's repetition.

  • @gidgetsdigitalgadget

    Yeah, whatever.

Ignoring you from now on, so please save your negative energy to yourself.

  • @gidgetsdigitalgadget Absolute nonsense! You do not have to be educated in music before it can 'touch' you. Before I could ever play an instrument I felt the emotions in many songs. I put it you that taste and emotion are purely subjective and personal and that what moves someone else won't move you. That does not invalidate their love of the piece. Assuming you are not talented painter by your own logic that would mean you have no entitlement to be moved by a work of art.

  • @Dravensdmf, I stand corrected! Yes, an uneducated person (in music) can be touched by what he/she hears, but only IF whoever is producing that music IS educated, talented AND especially creative. The same goes for paintings: anyone can daub colors on a canvas. Talent can splash paint and create art, untalented try the same and get rubbish. This violin-owner is of the latter category: he can only daub notes without creating music. It's rubbish.

Emotion in art affects all people similarly.

  • @gidgetsdigitalgadget So you're saying the artist MUST be educated & talented. Kurt Cobain, crap guitarist, even I'm better. Little formal musical training, made music that spoke to an awful lot of people. I have no problem with you not liking Ed's music & don't debate that he's not displaying the skills of a virtuoso. My issue is that is that you think this invalidates the music he produces and peoples choice to like it without your proclamation that they are wrong to do so

  • @Dravensdmf Hah, Kurt Cobain accomplished the very thing you're arguing that Ed is doing. Ed isn't doing anything. Kurt could create music with a minimalist approach to his guitar playing. Neil Young is another example, and so is Bob Dylan. There are others. But Ed isn't one of them. The difference is that no art is being created by Ed. He's simply playing one note or two after another with no musical lines being developed. And his playing sucks. I'm just reacting to someone calling him 'awesome

  • @gidgetsdigitalgadget "but musical 'taste' isn't inherent in people. One has to get educated and understand music before it can 'touch' you."

This is hilarious! Do you actually believe this or are you just trolling?

  • @WhichDoctor1, judging by what you said, you don't have any taste in music; you just follow along with whatever crap presents itself. As long as someone is making some 'sound/noise' you're happy with that! Sad! Look, that guy has a loop going on and he's only playing a note or two per bar. Sounds worse than telephone-waiting music. There's no talent or creativity involved here. It's pure fucking rubbish. If you don't know that, take a music appreciation course.

  • @gidgetsdigitalgadget Ok then. Music is basic and fundamental to human nature. People have been making, listening to and enjoying music for tens of thousands of years before the idea of music appreciation, or taste, had been invented. If something gives me pleasure and sends shivers up my spine I dont second guess it and ask if it conforms to some arbitrary definition of "good". The point of music is to affect people and if it affects me then thats all I care about.

  • @WhichDoctor1, I don't think music has been played for "tens of thousands of years". That's as ridiculous as your so-called 'taste in music'. Although you are correct in quoting me about music being a naturally appreciative element in humans ( no other animal has music) , it still takes talent to produce something that all can agree is good enough to be called music. Even if I don't 'shiver' to some genres, I can tell when it's good enough to do so in others. This Ed has nothing to offer.

  • @gidgetsdigitalgadget "I don't think music has been played for "tens of thousands of years".

From wikipedia "German archaeologists have found mammoth bone and swan bone flutes dating back to 30,000 to 37,000 years old".

Judging by the nature of your comments though, it seems you are either stupid or a troll. Either way you're not worth talking to. Goodbye :-)

  • @WhichDoctor1, aw for fuck's sake: we were discussing the merits (or rather the lack of) of Ed's stupid loop-music, and now you want to argue about so-called tusk-bone flautists of way back when? You're a moron.

Typically, you steer the discussion to wherever you can be 'right', such as an area way outside the discussion: early man's contribution to the beginnings of music! You do this to make up for the fact you lost the argument about Ed the wanker!

    You're a cry-baby. Go suck your mom's tit.

  • @gidgetsdigitalgadget You seem to promote a massive form of musical elitist snobbery. To my mind your argument is flawed. Beautiful music has been created from very simple melodies. Feeling i.e. the emotion transmitted from the music does not necessarily require skill. Look at the grunge movement of the early 90s very basic and simplistic guitar playing when you compare it to say yngwie malmsteen but it conveyed emotion and feeling. he makes people happy. What more matters?

  • @Dravensdmf

You said it all, I have nothing more to ad!

  • @Dravensdmf, far from it from me to be a snob. Rather, you and the likes of you are the snobs: trying to elevate this stupid kind of sound which is based on japanese electronics rather than human talent. The machine is playing it's ass off, while he plays a couple of notes per bar on his fiddle. I KNOW good music can be simple, but it's GOT to be more than some moron playing whatever note comes to his uninspired mind. Music takes SKILL. Period! When it's simple, it takes even more skill. Stupid!

  • @gidgetsdigitalgadget Ok lets compare this to something else. The Edge from U2. He uses truck loads of effects. He doesn't shred, least that I've ever heard. I guarantee he can't play as well as Michael Angelo Batio but to my mind he makes better songs. Others would disagree. He makes a tapestry of sound instead of technical playing in the way someone like Satriani might. Music does not need skill if you've got feeling. Feeling for one person is different to another....

  • @Dravensdmf the Edge uses whatever skill he possesses and creates that 'tapestry' of sound as you said. That takes talent, because I've heard others try it and the result was horrible. Even those who try to copy U2 can't really do what this artist does. I respect U2 as a creative group, even though they're not my top choice for rock. The Stones I respect even more. I agree though that's it's not only technical skill, but when virtuosity isn't in question, you still need talent. This guy has none

  • @gidgetsdigitalgadget cont... persons hence why what is obviously soulful to Ed and many other here leaves you dry because your taste is different. There's lots of music i don't like for various reasons. I don't like R&B I'm unmoved by it but that doesn't mean the people who do are wrong to do so. You seem quite bitter. Maybe its because Ed has supported Bowie, Dylan, The Cure, Faith No More and others and you haven't despite your glaring superiority.

  • @Dravensdmf, yes 'taste' can account for a lot of different opinions about genres, but as you say, even in a genre I don't follow, I can still tell if there's talent there or not. And this guy has none! He's only playing a few notes per bar (to his credit: notes that BELONG in the scale of whatever chord in the loop he's following), nevertheless, and lack of virtuosity not withstanding, he STILL does nothing artistic with those notes and is just part of the loop. Useless rubbish is the result.

  • @Dravensdmf , oh and furthermore: I know many people who have played with very famous artists. Most of those get used and thrown away like so much chaff. You have no idea who I have played with, but I can tell you this: in my early career I turned down several well-paid gigs (supporting this or that famous artist); my agent has a lot of connections. I refused to be used as background noise, which is what this Ed has done. And now his background noise has no star to make it valid. It's pitiful.

  • @gidgetsdigitalgadget Minimalism is a valid genre of music. Sure, not everybody likes it but it can be incredibly difficult not only to write but to perform as well. There's a fine line between music appreciation and music elitism.

  • @Nelrith I'm not disputing 'genres' of music, "minimalism" or otherwise. I'm saying: Ed the busker is a waste of space. It's not 'elitist' to say something is rubbish. What that wanker is playing isn't fit for anyone. It's not even a matter of liking a genre or not. I like all genres, but in those you find good and bad. To say everything is good is stupid as anything I've ever heard.

Music, by very definition must accomplish several things and BE several things in order to be called such.

  • @gidgetsdigitalgadget Okay, I as well as many people are sick of your negativity. Put your money where your mouth is and make a video of YOU doing better. I don't care which instrument. Write something better than this man and we will all shut up.

  • @Nelrith, it's not me that's negative; what's 'negative' is fools thinking Ed is 'awesome' when he can hardly play violin and most of his music is thumping loops that's doing most of the sound. Negative and pathetic.

Okay, you want to hear what I can do? Go you-tube the "devil in the kitchen" and hear how a fiddle SHOULD be played. If that's not enough, go then to: Sleepy Maggie!

I descend to your level here, where normally I wouldn't display my talents. What I lack still doesn't excuse Ed.

  • how many strings is that? 6? That's impressive.

  • @wakeboarder199 Five, he designed and built his own 5-string electric violin

  • @kabicekj noo, he didnt, its known for electric violin's, ive been trying to figure out the music but he plays a lot of low F's so its hard for me to do.. :$

  • @ohdontyoudare oh yes he did, check him out when he was young on Youtube on "Mal Pope Series 1 Prog 3 part 1b"

  • Very wonderful!

  • enter your text here

  • He's an amazing violin player! And he's my uncle!!

  • @beaubeaugabe no he is my uncle!!!

  • Saw this guy busking in Oxford and Chester. Pure talent, amazing.

  • passion not profit... though in a world focused on money, i prefer those who work out of pure love for it and want... over those who just want something as worthless as money :j ^_^ beautiful sound like this inspire faith in me in life

  • I would die if I didn't like this video.

  • Honestly i think Ed plays so much better live, i think that's shown in that cheeky grin he gives in this video. he looks up see's the camera and has a look that seems to say "you like that? well watch this!" he embodies the spirit that many "artists" seem to have lost these days.

  • that was extraordinary...

  • Heavenly

  • amazing anyway you look at it and drunk just makes it look better

  • Amazing!

  • Recorded with a potato.

  • why is the most talent always on the street

  • @GVPunks Because people with real talent don't do it for money. =)

  • @GVPunks because in the streets is pure, on tv is just for money and reputation

  • @GVPunks Probably why the best workers are self employed. They can't take the bureaucracy and leave the mainstream, going off on their own, even if it means a more difficult path. They do it for their freedom.

  • @GVPunks Because it's their hobby and they just do it for themselfves?

  • Chester is wonderfull!

  • Arther awesome !

  • What a boss such a talented soul

  • For those that are wondering, the name of the song is Orange.

  • very cool

  • See this is why I want one i'm super glad that I know how to play the violin so I can play real music when I get an electric violin job well done job well done

  • real music

  • Good... but can he play Smoke on the Water?

  • @nitickets Shit man a drunk retard on vic's can play smoke on the water.

  • When he hit the distortion pedal @ 2:29 my jaw literally dropped. I know what he is doing and it is no mistake why it sounds as rich as it does. He is hitting the harmonics and over tones on the string. Right at 2:31-32 you can hear the overtone jump an octave and squeal. He is pulling those squeals out of that thing like I have never heard. it is reminiscent of Uli Roths tone... just freakin SCREAMING. It is a shame he turned it down... it was so AWESOME!!

  • @captainfarktard shut up, we can tell from the video...

  • @adaammmk

    Problem?

  • @captainfarktard Yeah actually, stop being a pretentious cunt. No one gives a shit about your first comment; we can hear it all in the video and don't need you to transcribe it for us like you're some kind of musical god. Peace.

  • @adaammmk

Don't you have anything better to do than insult people that you don't know on the internet?

  • @captainfarktard Don't you have anything better to do than write about stuff you don't know about on the internet?
