  • (those breed for longer running to chase down hares and deer) and racing dogs (those breed for shorter fast spirts of running) are often bred to keep the breed balanced in it's ability. So in the end, physically speaking, YES THESE DOGS ARE MADE FOR RUNNING!

  • is because thier metabolic rate (the rate at which their body takes nutrients and fat and turns it into engery) is extremely high. They have the highest percent of fast-twitch muscles in the dog world, meaning they have more nerves throughout the muscles for fast reaction and minor adjustment. Their spine is also one of the most flexible to allow for the double suspension rotary gallop they are so well known for. They can't full out sprint for overly long distances but coursing dogs

  • Actually if you look at Greyhound history and anatomy, YES they are made to run and run fast. They're like the Cheeta of the dog world. Best records of these dogs starts from about 1400's or so where royalty kept them for chasing down fast game like rabbits and foxes. They have big powerful lungs, one of the largest hearts in the dog world (especially for their body size), and one of the highest red blood counts to get lots of oxygen to their muscles quickly. The reason they are so thin

  • Are you illiterate? Greyhounds are MADE to run in the sense that that is what 4,000 years of breeding will do. The doggies are bred to run. One could say that they are created to run, the same way a shepherd breed is MADE to herd.. I have three of them. They all love to have the opportunity to cut loose and RUN. They don't WALK or TROT around the field, they ARE-YOU-EN. See my comment below.

Or do you have a guilty conscience? You seem a bit touchy.

  • la la la :)

  • ha haha

  • how easily you rationalize what you do for greed

  • you better not be one of those cruel owners!

  • greyhound racing sucks!

  • Greyhounds are made to RUN. Not walk or trot. I have adopted 4 ex-racers and walk them daily. When I can safely turn them loose, they are in heaven. They run in bursts of about 30 seconds, then rest a bit. They will not run in loose sand at the beach, only the hardpack. Great dogs, amazingly easy to housebreak.

  • @flyingmerkel6 They aren't MADE to run, you old fool.

  • That's not training that's sheer laziness.

Put the dog on a leash/harness and walk them properly!

  • @raventears999 Running is better than walking. Why would she make them walk if she is training them to race?

Greyhounds love running much more than walking, a lot of dogs do, but especially dogs made for running.

  • $10 TO HAVE A GREYHOUND SHOT IN THE HEAD AFTER THEY RETIRE AT THE AGE OF 2-3! MY LOVELY DOG IS NEXT TO ME SAFE AND FAST ASLEEP, WHERE WILL YOUR DOGS BE AFTER THEY RETIRE - A MASS GRAVE????

  • @HANDJOB1 - You're a moron arent you?

  • Myself and my lovely greyhound May will be in Keynsham, Bristol, UK raising money for greyhound rescue (27th Aug) PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT GREYHOUND RACING - buy a lotto ticket instead!!!!!!!!!!

  • WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THE GREYHOUND WHEN THEY RETIRE?

  • @HANDSONG1 put them down.... :( or put them up for adoption! :)

  • @HANDSONG1 why would you put them down? is this because when you have finished racing them and can't find them a home? What method do you use to put a greyhound to sleep?

  • I own a greyhound, so forceful racing is terrible.

  • In Spanish, please.

  • These dogs are treated like disposable commodities. The amount of money a dog generates determines his or her expendability. Greyhounds deserve to be treated like pets, just like other dogs, not as a commodity in an industry that exists to exploit them for money. This sport is predicated on over-breeding in an attempt to find the one good runner, many will be put down, some while still puppies. Now, as these tracks become less popular the tracks are seeking tax relief and subsidies.

  • @TheMajestuoso Puppies out down? I will not say it has never occured but I will say it is far from common practice. A "good runner" becomes evident far past the "breaking-in" stage, around 12-17 months of age. Putting down puppies is like throwing away an unscratched lottery ticket. I find your claims unfounded and begging for accuracy. Furthermore big mouth, if you had it your way what do you think would happen to the dogs whose owners rely on the often meagre income the racing industry

  • @dandansabsab I never said euthanizing puppies was the most common practice. However, dogs can be injured or deemed unpromising racers while running in schooling races. You don't have to feed a lottery ticket. Fortunately, scores of rescue agencies try to save these beautiful dogs that are discarded each year by the racing industry, but they can only save so many. Breeding tens of thousands of dogs so that a few can cruelly exploit them is an injustice to all dog lovers.

  • @TheMajestuoso Please support all these assertations with fact, and a reference point that I'll be able to check. I think till then, you'll continue with these unfounded claims to keep your scare campaigne on track. Its not hard to fabricate evidence, I want to see some truth.

  • @dandansabsab Various animal welfare organizations such as the Humane Society of the U.S. estimate the number of Greyhounds killed per year. These could be based on breeding statistics, race registrations, estimated adoptions, etc. It is the racing industry that is lacking in accountability, but I think I've made my opinion clear enough as far as this video goes and ready to move on to other things.

  • @TheMajestuoso The blaringly obvious fact which you've failed to mention is the fact that greyhounds outnumber other breeds of dog many many times. Of course the number of greyhounds killed each year would be greater than many other animals. IS IT PROPORTIONAL??? Answer that you pathetic bleeding heart.

  • @dandansabsab You're trying to argue that increasing a breeds numbers result in more dogs eventually dying? Thanks, captain obvious. Or you think other dog breeds face the same conditions, deadly and crippling injuries and systemic breeding and killing of dogs by an industry as the greyhound? Btw, the number of greyhounds wouldn't qualify them as out-numbering any popular breed many times, not that that is relevant anyway.

  • @dandansabsab I raised the fact that as a breeds number increase as will the total number of deaths for that breed. I mention this to explain the "high" "estimated" numbers you and your humane society have published. As for your "captain obvious" quip, unfortunately some are slower than others, and my points have to be explained...

Also, I suggest you go and research the amount of greyhounds bred each year.

  • @TheMajestuoso affords them?

  • so what is a full weeks trainng for a grey hound?

And does this change over a year?

  • amazing those people who purport to know the "truth" about greyhound racing do not comment here. must be spineless or not in line with what they believe.

  • @circusboy90210 "More than a dozen greyhounds were euthanized after suffering injuries while racing on the Sarasota Kennel Club track this past season, raising questions about the dogs' welfare and track safety." - Sarasota Herald Tribune, June 6 2010

  • @TheMajestuoso euthinazia is the proper thing to do to an animal when it's suffering. damned if you do & damned if you don't with you people. you don't care about anything but your agenda you don't care about animal welfare all you care about is throwing your weight around. those people love those dogs and race them because that's what they were bred for by kings. this sport is an ultimate activity of sovereignty. to take this away is anti democratic, what kind of communist are you?

  • @circusboy90210 Greyhound racing is being propped up by state mandated subsidies. That's why Harrah's offered Iowa ten million a year if it would no longer be required to subsidize the failing tracks. Live racing is required by law at Florida race tracks that also have other forms of gambling at that track. States should allow dog racing industry to die off. Bettors are going elsewhere.

  • @TheMajestuoso ok show some proof.

  • @circusboy90210 Right now, I think there are just seven states that still have live Greyhound racing (some other states may have televised races). About twenty track closures in the past six years. Slots were allowed at race tracks to prop up the tracks. That is why Harrah's wanted to end it's slot revenue going to support the tracks, calling Greyhound racing "a giant waste of money and resources — including real estate that could be used for more profitable enterprises."

  • @TheMajestuoso that shows no state subsidies being used. States should not even have a right to say yah or nay to private enterprises such as gambling. harrah's is just plain greedy. I've seen many corporations but out profitable businesses because they were not profitable enough. It's about the economy stupid.(not personal) grehound racing is primarily a club activity , in that they dog owners are members of a club, it's not primarily a business. gambling is a sideline that makes huge revenue

  • Comment removed

  • how important is it that they have a dividing fence between them. can they still excerise well together

  • Where do they go after they raced/

  • The lucky ones will be adopted out and matched up with homes through various non-profit organizations. I have 2 retired racing hounds at home and they are wonderful!!!

  • urm thay go back 2 the padocs get woshed and get drink and then the vet will check it over for any cuts or w.e

  • jun7per, what you don't know from the videos is that Torri also runs an adoption group. That farm where she is being filmed also has an adoption kennel. If they are injured, we take them to the vet. When they "lose," they usually have a few more races to run before they retire. When they retire, she adopts them out.

  • ANY GUYS UP?
