@Sersons Well okay. I wasn't the one who compared them, though - I was commenting on Conan's statement about it. I think it's useless to compare the two bands at all.
@distantbeaches except that Cobain has repeatedly cited them as one of his favourite bands and invited them to play 3 of their songs on Unplugged. And since he claimed to have been influenced by the Pups, I think it was a valid question. Not the most original, mind you, but not offensive IMO.
@Sersons I was making fun of how Conan asks the Meat Puppets if they were influenced by Nirvana or whatever. It pisses me off because you can hear a bit of Nirvana in anything post 90s just because they had such a universal sound. It just seemed insulting for Conan to ask the Meat Puppets that question because of all the controversy that surrounded the two bands at the time. Everybody accuses Meat Puppets of ripping off Nirvana, or the other way around, and it gets so tired.
@distantbeaches lawl, meat puppets rip off Nirvana. That is sad. Meat Puppets have been around far longer than Nirvana and they hve been crafting excellent music for over a decade before nirvana came around. I think it was a legitimate question, but it is hard to answer that because personally I don't think there music sounds very similar. If anything I'd say the heavy rifts is all that Cobain could have taken, or the singing in some cases.
@distantbeaches This was only Conan's 2nd year on the air, and to be fair he's a little out of his element here talking about this kind of music. He's gotten A LOT better at interviewing over the 17 to 18 years he's been on television.

Love Conan but he is the worst interviewer in the world.
I think he should ask every band that comes on if they can hear the Nirvana influence in their music.

An interview this great could have only happened for a brief period in the mid-nineties. Kudos to Conan and the MP.
