@ThePeytonManningFan well who wrote that is a fucking dumb ass because theres no way in HELL that anyone...i mean not even a fucking secret service spy could get signals from a superbowl team durring practice. just get over it. hes a great coach who got caught. probably would of won all of those super bowls anyways. and besides hes still got more to come. as long as brady and belichik are at the helm of the patriots, they will be super bowl contenders.
Until the Patriots win another Super Bowl with Belichick & Brady at the helm, the specter of Spygate will loom over this team for years to come. I feel bad for the players of those teams, because they put their all into it, and to have that diminished by Spygate is somewhat demoralizing for those players. I don't think it gave the Patriots too big of an advantage. I think Belichick only used tape on division opponents for the second game against them.
@PhxRisingyeaaah1@ThePeytonManningFan That is why I wanted the Patriots to win this year. To prove they can win without spygate, and all the haters would shut the fuck up and appreciate the greatness of the Belichick/Brady combo. But they would most likely bring up the Josh McDaniels signing in the playoffs as their excuse. Let's be real, most likely every other team has done it, they just got caught. I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan btw, but I know when to appreciate greatness when i see it.
@bahmand No one seems to remember that Belichick brought a 31st ranked defense to the super bowl this year, and almost won, had it not been for those tiny little miscues, i.e. 12 men on the field, dropped passes, jerod mayo not looking for the ball during the cruz touchdown
@ThePeytonManningFan yes we know that. its as obvious as saying a whale shits in the ocean. everyone knows. but every team in the NFL spys. its the way the game is played.
@ThePeytonManningFan dont say shit unless you know its not true. its impossible for any team to get any film of another teams superbowl practice. its really amazing how people like you think the patriots were only good because they knew a few signals.
@ThePeytonManningFan Taping signals is not against the rules. Never has been. The "spygate" affair wasn't about taping signals, everyone does this. The issue is that they set up their equipment in the wrong area. It's not a conspiracy, it's a parking ticket.
Why people continue to talk about it is beyond me. If Bill Cowher and Tony Dungee don't see it as a big deal, I don't see why anyone else does.
would you still be clutch if you drove the ball 53 yards with 1:21 to go and no timeouts in the super bowl, even if you could let the game go into overtime if all else failed?

thats all ppl have for an argument...filming the practices huh....why doesn't anyone say anything DIFFERENT....HUH...Hmmmm....yeah cause thats the only argument other teams have against the patriots....but no matter what....the patriots are a great team and are gonna go back to superbowl 47
@verbalreljae What do you mean that's the only argument? That's the only argument that matters. They were caught cheating and haven't won a SB since being caught.
Even this year they hired Josh McDaniels AT THE END OF THE SEASON. They won a playoff game against Denver and it sure as hell helped that they had their freaking ex-coach on staff.
This is how Bellicheat works. He bends and often breaks the rules to gain an edge. He is a disgrace of a coach who should be banned from the HOF period
@STLsportBlog I would say they should be forced to forfeit their SB wins, but that wouldn't be fair to the hard working Patriots players who put their hearts into it.
The players can't help it that they play for a cheating scumbag. A man that looks like a complete homeless slob with his cut off hoodies and street clothes. He is an absolute disgrace to the true greats, like Lombardi and Landry... coaches who accomplished what they did without cheating and bringing dishonor to the game
@STLsportBlog Get the fuck over it. The Patriots won 22 consecutive games and had an undefeated season in 2007 AFTER the cheating had stopped. So just give the Patriots credit for being a good team and a perennial contender.
@MIvarsson99 Yeah, you would like it if people "got over it". How would you view the situation if the Giants turned out to be using illegitimate methods to beat the Pats in both games? I do credit the Patriots as being a good team, but they also had every accomplishment completely tainted.
@STLsportBlog Actually people have gotten over it. I have never watched a reputable news network disparage the Patriots or discredit their past success because of Spygate. I have only heard a fringe group of jealous haters, mostly on the internet, continue to harp on Spygate.
@STLsportBlog So what? They won 22 consecutive games after being caught. They've had a perfect regular season since being caught. Those things matter too. Being a great team is about more than just Superbowl wins. That's why Dan Marino is remembered as one of the best. A team's RECORD of excellence matters, you A-hole.
@MIvarsson99 Yeah, and how about the 112+ games that came before they supposedly stopped cheating? Not to mention, it's a big leap you're taking assuming that they "stopped" considering McDaniels clearly didn't change his habits.
It doesn't matter that the team was "still good". Their accomplishments will FOREVER be tainted by the actions of their idiot coach, no matter how badly you don't want that to be true.
@STLsportBlog And btw, I blame the Patriots for their own losses in their past 2 Superbowls. Even if the Giants had cheated, I would stay say that Wes should have caught that pass on 2nd and 11 and that the Patriots defenders were pathetic in failing to sack Eli Manning on that final drive in 2008.
Yeah, I guess Ty Law's pick 6 had nothing to do with it, right? Or that the Patriots scored only 1 offensive touchdown in both this game and the AFCCG (courtesy of Drew Bledsoe). You think maybe your dumbass coaching staff sitting back in a prevent defense on the most important drive of the game, or the fact that they didn't give Marshall Faulk the ball had something to do with it? Right, that 2-14 season in '00 or those playoff losses in '05 and '06 I guess are 'tainted'.
@STLsportBlog This is exactly how I was told to do it 18 years ago by a Kansas City Chiefs scout. I tried it, but I didn't think it helped us. - Jimmy Johnson

In '04, it was Tedy Bruschi that sealed it with a fumble recovery. Oh and BTW the Patriots' record since '07 is something like 63-19. Please take your head out of your ass.
@shivman123 time to make you feel dumb. spygate aint really cheating - and look up what they violated in the rules FOR 1 game.. if you still want to say it was cheating, BELICHICK was a coach for the giants 2 superbowl rings.. hmmm they must have cheated too. bill cowher has admitted that spygate is not cheating and that he has done it as well as jimmy johnson AHEM 4 TIME SUPERBOWL CHAMP,, let everyone see this message and shut the haters up cuz new england is still the team of the decade
@shivman123and if they were cheating. why didnt they even make the playoffs in 2002?why did they lose to the broncos in 2005 in the divisional round? why did they lose to the colts in the championship in 06? why DID they go undefeated without spygate?why have they been to 2 superbowls in 5 years without spygate. the standards areso high for the patriots that if they dont make it to the superbowl EVERY YEAR and win it, it has to be because of spygate. it is extremely hard to even make thPlayoffs
@Commonwealth96 The Rams were great this year because Martz basically inherited an unbelievable team from Vermeil. This was their last season of being elite, but they stayed solid until 2004 and competitive until 2006. Then bad drafting and terrible coaching hires caught up with them. Linehan was a joke, and while Spagnuolo was better, he still was not head coach material. Hence the hiring of J.Fisher... they wanted a coach that knows what he's doing from Day 1, rather than a coordinator.
It's almost like Bellichick and Brady decided they were going to drive just to show John Madden they could win the game. I think if that whoever won the OT cointoss would have scored first.
my girlfriend(at the time who was watching with me) didn't understand celebration as I was jumping and screaming when that kick went through. She got scared, lol. I told her not to come over!
Patriots ushered in a new style of TEAM sports that year.
Announcers are ollllld and gone.
Amazing that Adam Vinatieri had to deal with such distractions from camera crews on the sideline and still nailed his game winner dead-center.
Most clutch kicker of all time. Did you all know he actually chased down kick returners twice as a rookie and tackled them FROM BEHIND cuz he was faster and more determined than his opponent?
Still so hard to watch this after all these years. If only the Rams would have shown up sooner in this game, it would have been us instead of them. We would have been the dynasty. The Greatest Show on Turf died way too soon.
They should have instituted the five second field goal runoff rule before this Super Bowl. With the offense the Rams had during that year, a kickoff return wouldn't have been that unlikely.
@MGMGrandist Beginning of a "new age" was the Tuck Rule game against Oakland. But again, they were recording teams' walkthroughs (specifically St. Louis' on this game).
@jsimpson626 You've got to be retarded to still bring this up. Boston Herald writer blatantly lies, it's proven incorrect, and the story is retracted and apologized for...
But morons like you remember what you want to I guess...hilariously lame
Gimpy, that apology by Tomase was basically him admitting that he didnt have 100% proof of the incident. After taking loads of heat from his local readers. Here it is...
Tomase: So, my readers are mad. Did you guys tape the walkthrough?
Patriots: Nope.
Tomase: OK!
Patriots were caught. McD was caught. It's not an internet rumor, it's fact. So why should anyone outside of Boston believe that the Pats didn't cheat in 36? Caught in regular games, but suddenly went legit for the biggest game? No
"I think that the patriots with this field position, you have to just run the clock out. You gotta play for over time now. You don't wanna force anything here. You don't wanna do anything stupid. Because you have no timeouts and you're backed up."
I remember watching this game when I was five years old. It is a moment that is etched into my mind. My dad went to that game and the rest of my family and another family were sitting on the floor just hoping for a miracle. This moment defined my life more than any other. Today, I'm going to the AFC championship game in hopes to continue and prolong the meaning of the New England Patriots. WOOO!! GOO PATS!!
The moment where he spikes the ball and it lands perfectly in it hands as he sticks it out and he causually walks off the field pretty much sums up the career of Tom Brady.
This is one of the worst-called Superbowls in history. Listen to how sure Madden is about running the clock out. Listen to Pat Summerall phone it in during this final drive, thinking about how much celebratory scotch he's about to drink after his final game as commentator.
These guys really gave Joe Buck a run for his money that night.
@MixMasterStyle OMG WHY DOES EVERYONE SAY THAT each team has to be good at one point LOOK UP MARSHALL FAULK, KURT WARNER, ISSAC BRUCE, AND TORRY HOLT HIGHLIGHTS with these guys on a team they went 5 seasons in a row for 500 pts!! FIRST EVER!!
The lack of enthusiasm from these announcers is astounding. They didnt even say anything when Troy Brown caught the key pass during this drive either. Worst broadcast ive ever heard.
Damn, i'll never forget this day, i was 8 years old lol i went to a house to watch the superbowl, 2001 was actually the first year i started watching football, when the patriots won, i remember getting over excited and i tripped and hit the side of a coffee table head first, nearly poking my eye out, my skull had a minor fracture, damn all i can remember is the blood gushing out of me and the pain, i still have the scar still to this day, damn nearly 10 years ago, GO PATRIOTS! <3 you guys!
I will never forget John Madden saying at the beginning of that drive "run out the clock here, play for OT" really!?!?! How are you supposed to win by kneeing the ball?
Eli was in his 3rd year as starter (kurt warner was when eli was a rookie) and that drive was amazing and he got the winning score not brady and...? Of course NE'S record
But, brady had less time and 0 TO's which makes a little bit close
@JakeNyg25 , are u serious..... this was brady's first year starting and had to face the greatest team of the time. eli was already in the league for a few years and had the luckiest drive ever. New England had to chances to pick the ball and choked, not to mention their big name but ageing defense. tom brady had a minute and a quarter with NO TIMEOUTS.
@Ajwmsaguitarman the 07 pats were an even better team than the rams that year, superbowl 42 was voted the greatest superbowl of all time on fox sports, plus eli NEEDED a touchdown to win, which is much more difficult than just getting good field position for a field goal
eli manning's drive in super bowl xlii: 83 yards, 3 timeouts, 2:42 left on the clock, touchdown pass, avoiding 3 simultaneous sack attempts, 4th year as a starter, going against 18-0 team
tom brady's drive in super bowl xxxvi: 54 yards, no timeouts, 1:21 left on the clock, got to rams' 31 yard line for field goal attempt, 1st year as a starter, going against 16-2 team.
@neilrtucker11 I think it's fairly even. Eli did something more amazing, but Tom Brady did it in his first season of playing, and he was a no body draft pick out of Michigan.
@neilrtucker11 Tom Brady's drive as a starter by far was better. People forget that the Patriots were not just playing for a super bowl win against the Giants in xlii, but moreover for an undefeated year. There was well beyond more pressure for Tom Brady in super bowl xlii than there was for Eli! Eli was expected to lose, and Tom Brady was expected to win. Eli just had to come out and play. Had Eli lost, it would not have surprised anyone.
@KingTroll88 however, i should say that eli and the giants were down 14-10, so a field goal wouldn't do. in this video, the score was tied and they could've just let the game go into overtime if all else failed. eli HAD to score a touchdown to win the super bowl or else they would've lost.
@neilrtucker11 True, but also keep in mind, in this video, Tom Brady was a rookie. This was his very first season in the NFL, and what did he do? Took the New England Patriots to Super Bowl XXXVI, and won. Eli Manning showed up on the scene in 2004, and then 3 years later took the Giants to the Super Bowl XLII to play an over-pressured undefeated New England Patriots team, and won. Good for him. Took him three seasons; took Tom Brady one.
@neilrtucker11 So far as the game-winning drive goes, I say matching up toe to toe against a quarterback with the experience that Kurt Warner had; with a Super Bowl win already under his belt, and coming away with a (rookie) win; far more impressive.
I went crazy during that game I was 12 years old when that game was played & it was the first championship that I've seen win from any of the Boston sports team
@pbenna You don't know dick about football, do you? In this day and age you can't pee without being filmed. EVERYTHING is filmed and legal. The ONLY rule he broke was having a tape recorder on the sidelines during a game. EVERY team films the other team's signals....EVERY team. You just can;t watch that film DURING that game.
I said this year after they first won it, and it's held up with 6 more titles in Boston since.
When Ray Bourque finally won a Stanley Cup in 2001 with the Avalanche, the outpouring of support from Boston Sports Fans and Media I think finally broke the Championship Hex hanging over Boston.
any kid that wants to become a QB watch Tomas Edward Brady in these drive thats how you run an offense. calm, now your reads, check it down if there's nothing down the field get some yards keep moving your offense, remind your teammates to get out of bounds to stop clock, take charge in the huddle show confidence and leadership, dnt take a sack throw it away if there is nothing down the field, step up and stay in the pocket, and thats as good as it gets damm brady ur the man
This was the greatest moment in Boston sports history that I can remember up to that point and second to the Red Sox finally winning everything in 2004.
@acm58 He was clearly not outside the right tackle when he released the ball at 3:25 and was about to be sacked. No receiver in the area. Definitely falls under intentional grounding.
@mrbuffneff No, because the rule says, "If there is any question, the referee should not call intentional grounding." Therefore, when the quarterback is that close to the edge of the pocket, the referee won't make the call.
@ZeppeIinofLed I want Duane Kuiper to announce the Super Bowl. Even though he's just a baseball announcer, he knows how to raise his voice and get excited. "IT'S GOOD!!!! THE PATRIOTS... HAVE WON... THE SUPER BOWL!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!"
I like how both of them including Madden are so fucking mellow about this whole drive. Its the superbowl and an epic performance by the patriots show a little enthusiasm!
What's funny is someone on the rams before that game is on film saying "tonight a dynasty is born, tonight a dynasty is born" thats a great prediction lol
@RIPdixiecarter@coldbeatle89 I'm just saying; I see the game was on Fox, but they had announcers from ABC MNF doing the telecast, which surprsised me. I didn't think networks would have the wherewithall to do such a thing like that.
@HHSGDFootballJPD In the late 90s through the early 2000s, Madden and Pat Summerall were the #1 broadcast team for FOX. Madden didn't go to Monday Night Football until after this.
To this day I find it utterly baffling that Madden would say the Patriots should play for overtime. If they take a knee and the Rams win the coin toss, then the game is over--absolutely no question in my mind. Losing the coin toss would amount to a turnover, so why risk that?
ahhhhhh cant win no more fucking cheaters

Still so hard to watch this after all these years. If only the Rams would have shown up sooner in this game, it would have been us instead of them. We would have been the dynasty. The Greatest Show on Turf died way too soon.
arwurth 1 month ago
They should have instituted the five second field goal runoff rule before this Super Bowl. With the offense the Rams had during that year, a kickoff return wouldn't have been that unlikely.

@MGMGrandist Beginning of a "new age" was the Tuck Rule game against Oakland. But again, they were recording teams' walkthroughs (specifically St. Louis' on this game).

@jsimpson626 You've got to be retarded to still bring this up. Boston Herald writer blatantly lies, it's proven incorrect, and the story is retracted and apologized for...
But morons like you remember what you want to I guess...hilariously lame
gimpy529 1 month ago
Gimpy, that apology by Tomase was basically him admitting that he didnt have 100% proof of the incident. After taking loads of heat from his local readers. Here it is...
Tomase: So, my readers are mad. Did you guys tape the walkthrough?
Patriots: Nope.
Tomase: OK!
Patriots were caught. McD was caught. It's not an internet rumor, it's fact. So why should anyone outside of Boston believe that the Pats didn't cheat in 36? Caught in regular games, but suddenly went legit for the biggest game? No

Eli was in his 3rd year as starter (kurt warner was when eli was a rookie) and that drive was amazing and he got the winning score not brady and...? Of course NE'S record
But, brady had less time and 0 TO's which makes a little bit close
Eli:better preformence
Tom:more difficult
Winner eli 4.9 of 5
Tom 4.5 out of 5
Go giants
JakeNyg25 1 month ago
@JakeNyg25 , are u serious..... this was brady's first year starting and had to face the greatest team of the time. eli was already in the league for a few years and had the luckiest drive ever. New England had to chances to pick the ball and choked, not to mention their big name but ageing defense. tom brady had a minute and a quarter with NO TIMEOUTS.
Ajwmsaguitarman 1 month ago
@Ajwmsaguitarman the 07 pats were an even better team than the rams that year, superbowl 42 was voted the greatest superbowl of all time on fox sports, plus eli NEEDED a touchdown to win, which is much more difficult than just getting good field position for a field goal
Qweeftastic 1 month ago
this is some of the best porn ive ever seen

eli manning's drive in super bowl xlii: 83 yards, 3 timeouts, 2:42 left on the clock, touchdown pass, avoiding 3 simultaneous sack attempts, 4th year as a starter, going against 18-0 team
tom brady's drive in super bowl xxxvi: 54 yards, no timeouts, 1:21 left on the clock, got to rams' 31 yard line for field goal attempt, 1st year as a starter, going against 16-2 team.
which drive is better?
neilrtucker11 2 months ago
@neilrtucker11 I think it's fairly even. Eli did something more amazing, but Tom Brady did it in his first season of playing, and he was a no body draft pick out of Michigan.
xvolcom19x 1 month ago
@xvolcom19x Throwing a hail mary is amazing? Lol. ok.
NAACPDoner 1 month ago
@neilrtucker11 Tom Brady's drive as a starter by far was better. People forget that the Patriots were not just playing for a super bowl win against the Giants in xlii, but moreover for an undefeated year. There was well beyond more pressure for Tom Brady in super bowl xlii than there was for Eli! Eli was expected to lose, and Tom Brady was expected to win. Eli just had to come out and play. Had Eli lost, it would not have surprised anyone.
KingTroll88 1 month ago
@KingTroll88 however, i should say that eli and the giants were down 14-10, so a field goal wouldn't do. in this video, the score was tied and they could've just let the game go into overtime if all else failed. eli HAD to score a touchdown to win the super bowl or else they would've lost.
neilrtucker11 1 month ago
@neilrtucker11 True, but also keep in mind, in this video, Tom Brady was a rookie. This was his very first season in the NFL, and what did he do? Took the New England Patriots to Super Bowl XXXVI, and won. Eli Manning showed up on the scene in 2004, and then 3 years later took the Giants to the Super Bowl XLII to play an over-pressured undefeated New England Patriots team, and won. Good for him. Took him three seasons; took Tom Brady one.
KingTroll88 1 month ago

@neilrtucker11 sorry, he was pretty much a rookie. His first year as a starter*
KingTroll88 1 month ago
@neilrtucker11 So far as the game-winning drive goes, I say matching up toe to toe against a quarterback with the experience that Kurt Warner had; with a Super Bowl win already under his belt, and coming away with a (rookie) win; far more impressive.

@acm58 He was clearly not outside the right tackle when he released the ball at 3:25 and was about to be sacked. No receiver in the area. Definitely falls under intentional grounding.
mrbuffneff 2 months ago
@mrbuffneff No, because the rule says, "If there is any question, the referee should not call intentional grounding." Therefore, when the quarterback is that close to the edge of the pocket, the referee won't make the call.

@HHSGDFootballJPD In the late 90s through the early 2000s, Madden and Pat Summerall were the #1 broadcast team for FOX. Madden didn't go to Monday Night Football until after this.

irlandsk 4 months ago 41
To this day I find it utterly baffling that Madden would say the Patriots should play for overtime. If they take a knee and the Rams win the coin toss, then the game is over--absolutely no question in my mind. Losing the coin toss would amount to a turnover, so why risk that?
pronkb000 4 months ago
