Thank God for the Evangelical Lutheran Christian music of St. Johann Sebastian Bach....a great instrument of Christ, playing in the Heavenly Orchestra, beautifully expressing God's Word! :)
"O Day Come Often!"--O day come often! Joyous day return. When God gave you to us,and Bach was born.We THANK Him, praying that He long your life may spare,. For seldom does the world recieve a gift so rare!" Written in 1735 year by Bach,s close friend, Johann Goffried Walther on the occasion of J.S. Bach,s birthday. to: *bersa888 LOL!
Thank GOD for the great and majestic music of J.S. Bach!!! God-inspired music is the best music! I wonder if there is an orchestra in heaven? If so, then Bach, Handel and Albinoni must be leading it. :) Praise the Lord God omnipotent!
...Just happy not to see anybody thanking "God" for Bach's music for once, plainly ignoring the hundreds of (more than sufficient) other reasons for this great music. "Inspired by" doesn't mean "written by" in my book; it only does to the musically ignorant (in the best sense) ;-)

@rumpranger65 : Of course, I see your point :-) But that says nothing really... believing doesn't make it true by a loooong shot :-) Not so much for me. History, geography, genetics, music (harmony, forms, style, etc..) are plenty of reasons - all testable, mind you - for the greatness of Bach's music. Only a non-musician or a deeply religious person couldn't understand that. Bach, just like Mozart or Shakespeare all knew very well how "to pluck the right strings" ;-), there's no magic to it...
@bersa888 I would follow Aquinas in saying that God is, properly speaking, the true cause of Bach. Whatever historical circumstances, genetics, etc. caused Bach to be the way he was, were caused by something else. This cannot go on ad infinitum. So ultimately all of the causes derive their efficacy from a first cause. Moreover, Bach's soul was directly caused by God. Finally, Bach's "final cause" or "end" is God. So in three ways we can already see how God is the cause of Bach. :)
@rumpranger65 : Like I said or implied, that's a beautiful and elegant reply and reason for your belief... if you buy into the reality of the supernatural, God, first cause, etc. To me and many others, that means absolutely nothing (and who created God..?). Ultimately, this is only a discussion with two clear diametrically opposed points of view :-) As a professional musician, I can tell you that every single thing in Bach's music is "accounted for" on this earth without help from the clouds.
@bersa888 That's not the argument at all, that it's just "too beautiful". The "who created God" reply is not a reply at all. We're not saying that everything is created by something else. Everything that begins to exist is created by something else, Bach included.
@bersa888 Also, please don't throw in this "I'm a professional musician" business, or "only an ignorant non-musician could say something like this'. I've studied counterpoint and music theory for the last three years, as well as playing piano for the last 5. Best.
@rumpranger65 : well, I wasn't assuming anything about you. I was just talking in general - btw, if you know about music, good for you, but you got still a lifetime ahead of you for truly learning the trade ;-) no matter what, if you are knowledgeable, you should know how Bach's music didn't come from nowhere... from Palestrina, Caldara, Lotti, Buxtehude, Reinken, Vivaldi, Albinoni, Couperin, Telemann... the list of his influences/inspirations goes on for ever..
@rumpranger65 : ... basically, I see your argument as a classic non-sequitur, especially in the case of music, my field of study and work (as well as anthropology). Attributing a supernatural cause to anything because too beautiful/perfect/complicated/inexplicable just never did it for me, sorry :-))
Well my dear Sir off-course not. I happen to be one of the usual fools that wander the tube just making unschoolar comments at random to cause stirs for the sole enjoyment of an audience of one, please feel free not to respond, for you will find a total loss of your time to argue with someone who neither knows anything about classical music nor does it have an ounce of culture to argue this subject, thank you Sir for having wasted your time...
I happen to know and possess faster versions. The one I love the most is conducted by Sir Neville Marriner and it only lasts 2:40s
A little increase in tempo is enough to give this piece a much different ambiance, although this one is still great...
You have all the right to disagree but, at age 29, you should be able to provide reasonable argumentation in order to sustain your views, rather than suggesting people who don't agree with you have some kind of metabolic disturbance.
Ah 29 an age long lost but not forgotten, yet it was quite amusing to cause such a stir on someone with little care for comedy.Wasn't King George who thought that Bach was also play too slow?
I don't know, man... but I really think you should save that "comedy" thing for the ladies.... I heard they love it and you sure would be spending your time a lot more productively.
Remember, I'm just a 30 Year Old Virgin, so I'm probably too dumb to appreciate your elevated intelligence.
