Let's not tell bullied kids that suicide is a good form of revenge. Bullying has never caused suicide (though too many people CHOSE to kill themselves after being bullied).
Spirit Day events such as this are well-intentioned reinforcements of the notion that lots of people will honor you if you kill yourself. That is a potentially damaging act.
Instead of misguided events like this, teach better coping and stop having big events that wind up romanticizing suicide. Thank you.
This problem isn't a new one, our kids have been killing themselves for years! What is new is that now it's out in the open! schools, law enforcement and yes even parents can no longer sweep the problem of Gay teen suicide under the rug. Sadly too many gay teens do not have the support of their parents or may be only one parent is tolerant. People if you have a gay son, daughter or brother/sister, get off your asses and support them, talk to your kids Today! School authorities get involved!
