  • What a tool... all that voice and no sense to stick to the no format format. The angels gonna' wear his red shoes.

  • great voice

  • Now an honorary Canadian with twins, a future brilliant songwriting team I'm sure..

  • I once bumped into Elvis Costello at a shppoing centre in Dublin. Absolute gent and I tell everyone I met him. Consider yourself told.

  • man this song...it'll never get old as much as I listen to it. it's just too brilliant a track!

  • @MrAndersoncouncil

Thanks...How could I get that wrong!?

  • legend with a capital F

  • any of the interview bits circulating

  • qui sont les 3 personnes qui ont misent qu'elles n'aiment pas ? Des sourds ? ignorants ? Sans oreilles musicales , c'est sur.. Bravo Elvis , c'est magnifique !!

  • hi!

    nice song at all!!!!!!!

i´m a singer / songwriter... it would be nice if you could listen to some of my songs too!

you can find me on facebook...

    search for andreas kümmert

    have a nice day!

  • The first song is Rocking Horse Road from the "Brutal Youth" album.

  • Rocking Horse Road- It's on 'When I was Cruel' album I think- when I saw him do it live he said it was written about a trip he took in New Zealand

  • @Sooper8 Brutal Youth

  • Gibson J-160 E.

Looks like there's a brass colored pick-up on the treble side of the bridge. Look at all the finish checking (6:04)on that thing. BIG chunk of the top is gone by the sound hole above the pickgaurd.

That's an OLD guitar. Most likely it's around the same vintage as John and George's.

Looks like the original Kluson tuners too. (I doubt it though, probably Grovers)

  • Awesome! what a talent!

  • Just need Chet Baker

  • Growing up in the 80's, I was never a fan. But as I grow older I'm learning to appreciate his talent. Beautiful voice.

  • its beautiful.. :)

  • I LOVE this song!

But the acoustic is impossible to find??

Anyone know where I can find an Mp3 of this version???

  • Does anyone know what kind of strings hes using to get that sound?

  • I don't think it's the strings so much as it is the guitar itself - looks like a Gibson John Lennon model - the pickup may be contributing to the sound, especially if it's original. Gibsons usually have a muddier tone, imo.

  • There is none better than him. Great voice( full of soul), great guitar player, great entertainer.

  • this is the reason I play guitar and write!!!

  • This guy is a real musician, he can just stand there and play, no backing, no nothin, just a guy n a geetar

  • I seriously enjoy Elvis Costello's live acoustic performances.

  • We should be diving for pearls. I love it.

  • I know of no song modern writer who has consistently managed such diversity and depth to their songs as Elvis Costello......ever really.

  • Best songwriters of the last 30 years have to be Elvis Costello and Andy Partridge.

  • Can't.. stop.. watching

  • It is really to bad that there are not any more brilliant musicians like Elvis, I mean the "it" musicians now are the Jonas Brothers, and rappers like 50 cent. It is truly sad.

  • this proves what a genius EC is.........how many of the so called stars of today could do that

  • Beautiful. Choked.

  • awesome song!!

  • I saw Elvis sing this song live at the "Irish National Stadium" in 1985... my first rock concert ever, and I did not really know who Elvis was.

He opened his encore with this song. As he sang, shouts from the otherwise silent crowd of Dubliners arose, "Sing a fucking real song, man! Where's "Pump it Up?"

Unreal. This is one of his best. No questions. Beautiful. And I had the good fortune to see it from row 3 as sweat dripped from his face.

  • 1985? The song was on Brutal Youth, which came out somewhere in the early '90s.

  • Sorry... let me clarify. I heard him sing Shipbuilding, the second song in this video, back in 1985.

  • what's the name of that first song he sang? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

  • As stated in the info.....

Elvis performs Rockinghorse Road and Shipbuilding on the Kirsty Show.

    14th November 1994

  • yeah, thanks. what album is it on?

  • It's off the 'Brutal Youth' album. But as he said in it, it's actually played on the Piano in the recording

  • Elvis is a genius....

  • So, so beautiful... his voice is so compelling.

  • You either get it or you don't plain and simple...

And if you don't, more fool you, there's always Robbie Wiliams or a million other twats you can listen to..

  • wow the version of shipbuilding, doesnt get any better than that. chord progression, melody and voice all perfect.

    wonderful.

  • From the other side of the world,

from my heart, I thank this man

for his beatiful art and superb talent!

  • I don't completely believe in heros, but if I did EC would be mine. What a performance!

  • elvis , the king buenos aires is waiting for you to come back

  • I watched it maybe 10 times! What a perfect perfomance! ..what an exciting voice!

  • Thats the voice, you either love it or hate it! just listen to the lyrics and the passion, He is unique!!!!!

  • What you have here is a 'human' making human 'sounds' that other humans can connect with...that is the beauty of it. It's irrelevant what vocal range he has or how many chords he can play on a guitar...it's not American f****** Idol, which is a load of crap.

  • I disagree. What you are watching is one of the most prolific, accomplished musicians that has ever lived. Elvis has written, recorded, covered and performed with many of the greatest musicians that have ever picked up an instrument or a microphone. A talk show may not be the best venue for him to demonstrate his talents, but I love the grittiness and soulfulness of this performance. Long live Elvis Costello.

  • Elvis is the king

  • pure talent

  • SUPERB,

  • This acoustic version is just awesome. The guitar sounds great, and Elvis voice is so incredible. I prefer it to the piano version, c'est vraiment un grand !

  • This is very cool... send me an email I want that mpeg.. Where the hell did you find it... Goddam!

  • Wow, thanks for this. Elvis is incredible. I worship is talent!

  • Thanks for the video! Did you know that Squeeze, from the same genre of music, is going to be touring North America in the Summer of 2007 and the UK later in the year? Tickets for the North American dates are available on the Ticketmaster website.

  • That's the sign of a great artist...being able to pull it off like that in front of a live studio audience with some unprepared material. Doesn't that guitar sound great (especially for "Rocking horse road"?)

  • fabulous!

  • EXCELENTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    paul casstro music

  • Brings back memories of better times...

  • Incredible. Thankyou.

  • brilliant

  • "all the way down..." extraordinary!
