  • This would look soooooooo much better in colour! either than that viva papa !

  • NIKITA RONCALLI

  • Introit: Statuit ei Dominus. You can hear parts of it during this video, in spite of the poor sound quality. The introit Statuit ei was always used for Coronations.

  • I would like to know what the Introit was for this mass, and what Divine Office was attatched to it. Does anyone know?

  • Afterwards, as the video also shows, the Cardinal protodeacon goes to the Altar, takes the pallium (that is lying on the Altar table), descends the steps of the Altar, and imposes the pallium on the Pope's shoulders. The Pope is now ready to ascend the steps of the Altar.

  • when the said prayers have been said, and the Introit is finished, the Pope, instead of immediately ascending the steps of the Altar as he would do in any Mass, returns to the sedia gestatoria (that is now resting on the ground), and the three most senior Cardinal Bishops, recite the "orationem super Pontificem"...

  • This video also shows what happens after the "prayers at the foot of the Altar" proper...

  • When the Holy Father starts the "prayers at the foot of the Altar", the schola intones the Introit of the Coronation Mass: "Statuit ei Dominus".

  • Rites at the foot of the altar, plus prayers over the new Roman Pontiff and the imposition of the pallium by the Cardinal protodeacon.
