So lucky to have have been sitting on the floor in the Sacramento State Gym in 1968 with Janis and Big Brother playing five feet in front of us on a small riser with the "infamous" Southern Comfort bottle right at her feet. Soooo much better than a big auditorium!
Everything about her--the power, passion, and presence...THAT VOICE--it all just floors me. She tortures me, but so damned sweetly!
I sit here EVERY DAY and watch the videos or listen to the studio cuts that people so graciously post, and my jaw is on the ground; I feel like crying, and yet I'm suddenly loving life more. I'm so hooked on her.
i hear this song all the time at my job an i kept telling myself it couldnt be janis over and over but i finally looked it up an im happily surprised, this really was her at her soulfullist lol great song, great singer
The band I am playing with is doing this song. Our female lead singer is absolutely nailing it. The band is about 80% there. WE don't have horns but I am working out that outro horn arrangement for guitar. We are debuting it next Saturday. If it goes well, I'll post a video.
@tragicomicus1 Have fun with it, enjoy it and live it.... but no offense, NOBODY can nail this, except Janis herself. Glad to see someone that appreciates the music and keeps it alive. Keep on rockn man. p.s. post that vid, or link me to it(even if you think it didnt go well. id love to see/hear it)
I wish we still had someone in music today with as much passion as this. I'm listening to a lot of her music over again and the power of her voice still shocks me, love her!
This has got to be one of the top ten tracks of the 60s. What a talent, what a shame. Always brings a tear to my eye while it lifts my spirits along with the roof. If there's a heaven, janis will have the house band.
It sounds like she was a bit more sober than usual in this song. She has less rasp, and she's hitting notes perfectly (not that her voice doesn't always rock). Rock on, Janis! (OPINION, NOT SPAM)
In my humble opinion this is possibly her very best song. It just sends the chills down my spine when she cuts loose with the horns and the Hammond B-3...it's just such a groovy-ass funk I can't stop playing it.
Thanks for posting...she truly was unique..and is one of my favourites...even though I was born long after her untimely death..such a shame..she could have done so much more..I hope she's at peace!
god bless you janis i know i do:D
