also i don't know if this is relevant to your situation. but in mine my skype would just keep spinning @ the sign in window. what you do to fix that is remove skype. download 5.1 remove that after trying to sign in. then download 5.3 again :)

When I delete the XML file and lauch skype again, the XML file comes back again.

i installed Reginout System Utilities program and used its system cleaner and registry cleaner tool and it fixed the problem.

Type this C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Ro­aming\Skype

Into your C drive. Not in the search bar. Delete the XML file called Shared and it works!
