I was in Iraq, Im pretty sure he might of gotten the Medal of Honor, if the was the 2ID guy I heard about who got it when I was over there in 2007. Yes he got screwed with the Silver Star, but at least he got nominated. That's brave. It's true, a lot of units don't put soldiers in for the awards they deserve. That is why so many have been given out to dead ww2 and korea vets int he 90s and now.
You guys know the sad thing? I read about his sacrifice in a book, I never had even heard of him up till that point. and I'm in touch with all things military... Forgotten hero's.
I watch a General recieve the sivler star cause he was retiring. But a young 19 year old PFC had to throw himself onto a grenade to save his buddy's to get one. These medals mean nothing. The real soldiers of this great army who actually fight this war understand the sacrifice that was given dec. 6 2006. That's what is really important. this country will never fully understand that
Hey knucklehead, you do not get a Silver Star for retiring. This is a combat award. What you saw, was probably the Legion of Merit for the General retiring.
Own Grendade blew him up. Geezes you people fall for the Propaganda so easily. Of course you'll call me Unamerican, blah blah blah, but then you said the same thing when I commented the same way about Jessica Lynch, Pat Tillman, etc. etc. etc.
Own grenade? What an idiot. You have just proven how yourself and the other ignorant Liberals pay attention. Maybe you ought to take a good look at "you people".
Ironically, heroes like Ross McGinnis are the ones who make it possible for sniveling fools like garicmidknight to spew asinine allegations without fear of censorship or punishment. garicmidknight has the right to make an ass of himself and he succeeded as if he had a lot of practice.
I am in Charlie company 1-26, Ross was 1st platoon, I was 2nd plt. Its a very good video except Ross was not a mechanic, he was full blown 11B infantrymen. word, Gerry Denardi
@bleh10122 mine too, where you there the day that they put in the memorial (well honored the memorial?) it was the saddest thing i've ever seen. He sure as hell was a hero, to us, if not everyone.
I have a good feeling we can be looking at another Medal of Honor reciepient, Jason Dunham recieve it for the same actions, I hope he gets it. I will surely be happy if he gets it. RIP Spc. Ross McGinnis, your sacrifice will never be 4gotten
I've looked up his name on google, as well as youtube and other sites, and this is the only video I've found of him. Amazing, He gave his life, saving others, and all he gets is this "moment" of valor. There are probobly even more heroes out there who we've never even heard about.
Ross wasn't a Mechanic, he was an Infantryman. He and I where in the same unit, C co 1/26 IN 1st ID. He was a good guy, and laid it on the line to save his brothers. God Bless you.
I am a soldier with the U.S. Army I have been deployed twice. I never got a chance to meet SPC Ross A Mcginnis even though we grew up about 25-30 miles apart from a small town in Northwestern Pa. Just the sacrfice to gives his own life for others just tells the story of what kind of man he was. Even though we never met he is a true HEROE. GOD BLESS YOU ROSS YOU WILL BE MISSED.
I knew Ross, my brother went to school with him. It hit the community hard when he was killed. It is such a horrible thing to lose a great guy like Ross. He was always kind and considerate. He is missed by many people.
What a brave man; his own life to protect his comrades. Too bad neo-cons started this whole mess and put him in this situation in the first place. Why does President Bush keep signing legislation that robs the American people of their constitutionally-guaranteed liberties in the name of imposing martial law? I think it is terrible that brave men and women give their lives, believing in freedom and democracy - deceived by power-mad elites who want total control over everything.

wish there were more recognition for this kind of heroism in public, not just in youtube.
All we hear nowadays is how evil they are and how many died.

And you were there to see this happen? A 35 year old who plays World of Warcraft, you know so much about real combat, don't you?

Pay attention loose lipped fool. It wasn't his "own" grenade, it was tossed into the vehicle by an insurgent and he smothered it with his body.
