It all comes back to what is real define real .The reality is only that of what is perceived and known by the individual and only the individual one.even if their are 2 side by side their perspectives are going to be oposed as they have lived different lives from different points of veiw and physical pionts in time. this has all to be considered. It is all valid.
Is it possible these so called "Illnesses" are really altered, possibly elevated, states of consciousness?
This could also lead one to question the righteousness of laws forbidding psychedelic substances which may also elevate consciousness to "higher" levels.
I love this story/idea. It opens up a curiosity about the nature of how we perceive the world in a way that for me makes things a little clearer/brighter. It taught me that it takes courage to question the reality we take for granted and how important this quality is in life
I remember studying this in Philosophy in college. I often wonder about our perception of reality, after all, even vision is just perception of delayed light reflection. Touch is delayed to the brain by the time needed to send chemical/ electric responses. Sound is merely waves. What is left as "real" ????
I'm not sure what you mean but it tells you what was known about human nature all that time ago. Plato's is a must read he lays the whole blueprint for this whole New World Order. Plato talked about licensing musicians because they knew the effect it had on the youth. There is other factors but you can look around you today and look at the music most people listen to,violence materialism etc because those at the top what this type of society, perfect for fighting their wars. Very good book :)
Yes,I agree. It is incredible thinking. I have not read the whole book, just the allegory of the cave. Maybe and that is the next step. I just thought that you because it was old, it is less valid. I see that's not what you mean.

Ledvolta, I really like the allegory too!
It is indeed timeless.
Which may lead one to ask the question...
Is Autism, or Schizophrenia really a "disorder"?
Is it possible these so called "Illnesses" are really altered, possibly elevated, states of consciousness?
This could also lead one to question the righteousness of laws forbidding psychedelic substances which may also elevate consciousness to "higher" levels.
