Any song that commemorates Joe Hill is alright in my book.
"If the workers took a notion they could stop all speeding trains; every ship upon the ocean they can tie with mighty chains. Every wheel in the creation, every mine and every mill, fleets and armies of the nation, will at their command stand still."
"I will die like a true-blue rebel. Don't waste any time in mourning - organize."
Gonna see him at Roskilde in festival. He probably has close to no fans in Denmark, but he sure as hell will after his performance, 'cause this guy is really fucking good!
Really want a backstage pass so I can chill with this man!
@kristiantcunningham, I heard him open for The Decemberists too, at Royal Oak. He was amazing! That was definitely one of the best opening acts I've ever seen!
@kristiantcunningham My lady and I were just discussing, upon just now discovering Justin Towns Earle, that we feel similar to when we first heard The Decemberists. Out of the ordinary, he is superb.
Seeing the Decemberists tonight, apparently this guy is gonna open for them... glad I checked him out here. Looks like I'll actually enjoy the opener of the show tonight!
learn a couple missippi john hurt songs and this shit will come right to you, theres a little intstructional video for it too by him but theres no real info
Travis picking...based on an alternate bass picking with the thumb...string 6 and 4...but Justin does it to a perfection is very hard to duplicate what he is doing.. this pattern was originated by Merle Travis..you might check our Thom Bresh too...
Muscians know far more about their class and their history than do the vast majority of American workers, and that's why we're in the state we're in. And that's a bloody shame.
Love that Justin dedicated this song to his "dearly departed grandfather". The John Henry bronze monument is located in WV, at the top of a mountain in a huge curve. I go by there a once or twice a year. It's the same RR tunnel John Henry plowed through on his own!
@ilovechugs When you play a D chord, do you wrap your thumb around the top of the neck to make the low E an F#? If so the fret looks like this: 200232. That's what he is playing but with his middle finger instead of his wraparound thumb, and then he is not bothering with the top two strings, cos he is not playing them.
Fret position for Normal D: 200232
His: 200200 (and if you play 200212 it's a D7, which is kind of more like what he is playing).
After listening to a few of this mans songs he is now in my top 5 favorite country artists of ones still breathing anyways

Thats not a spittoon, that's just a water battle (with actual water in it). I'm not denying he has a dip in, but thats not his spit cup.

He was the first opening act I've ever seen get a standing ovation. If the main act was anyone but The Decemberists he would have upstaged them,
