Very hard job to get. they only take 1 in 50 people who apply so ive heard. If you even have a inconclusive polygraph( one that doesnt know if your lying or not) they will not accept you. They have recieved lots of critism just like other law enforcement about this because they are turning down lots of very qualifed people because of this. Hopefully they get rid of the polygraph because it isnt realable. There is a reason why its not admited in courts because the machine doesnt work

If you manage to get selected to go to the academy and you pass the training, then you will be assigned to wherever the Bureau needs you to go. You are more than likely not going to go your field office of choice (at first). Also, you maybe hired for a certain skill set you possess (e.g. computer science) but may start out working in a "violent crime" or "healthcare fraud" squad. The needs of the Bureau come first, and your experience will carry more weight as you go.

People...do not bank on becoming an agent in the FBI. Don't even bank on getting into the FBI. Have a backup plan! The FBI is an extremely exclusive agency. That's like banking on becoming a professional athlete. My advice is to try your best but if you dont get it, dont be pissed thats just the way the FBI is. They had to cut off applicants for summer internships because background checks for a couple thousand applicants gets expensive.

Lat time I checked, it wasn't a requirement, but it will definitely help. Like you said, being a cop for two years or so would be very beneficial. I'm sure you know all the other stuff as well? A lot of small one time bad decisions can keep you from being accepted, so make sure that you don't do anything illegal. I'm not saying you would, just a heads up incase you weren't sure about some of their rules.

Well a degree in criminal justice would help too, but most of the Special Agents I have known recommended an accounting degree. If you're set on getting a Masters you could get one degree for criminal justice, and one for accounting. It's not necessarily a big deal, if you obtain your degree, they will be happy. You should get one in what you enjoy. For instance many do Business which has accounting, but incase they change their mind about being law enforcement, they still have options for work.

They have offices all across the world as well and participate in many operations that are of a "secret" nature. The real only difference between the CIA and FBI is that the FBI is a federal law enforcement agency with the power to arrest. Also, CIA "agents" could very well be US citizens depending on the circumstances.
