kip winger is a very talented musician. a lot of people hated on him because he was a good looking guy..not beautiful life myself :) attractive nonetheless. jim morrison was also a good looking guy but never got disrespected the way kip winger did. maybe a lot of it had to do with his image as being glam rock. most guys who sung those type of ballads were laughed at after it was over by the same people who once listened to it. but winger never disrespected the fans the way metallica did.

As a musician, it is obvious that Kip Winger and Reb Beach are the real deal and can are EXTREMELY versatile, playing anything from reggae to funk. Gotta say this. Winger was picked on on the show. Metallica & AC/DC were looked at as the great, cool bands. Now, I think all three are great bands, but...I can't ignore the following facts. Winger's "Karma" was a killer album and different from a lot of their efforts. AC/DC's "Black Ice" sounded like every other AC/DC album and was pretty boring. Metallica's "Death Magnetic" was a decent, average album, but everything between it and the Black Album sucked. I think Winger came out on top.

@spratrbo Reb Beach explained on an interview that Judge was smart about how he drew Stewart's Winger shirt. It wasn't their logo so it limited their rights, plus he said suing a cartoon would have made them look like as big of jerks as Metallica. It really was a no-win situation for them and it's pathetic that this guy thinks this story about Kip is funny (though I'm not sure it's actually true).

@lappain And as I said, Kip Winger composes symphonies and stuff these days, one of his pieces was used for some huge ballet or something. Go listen to some of his solo stuff like that and then try to tell me he has no talent. Rod Morgenstein is now a professor at Berkelee, and Reb Beach was easily one of the best guitarists of the 80's. The band definitely had talent, and lots of it.

EASYYYYY on calling Winger a "great" band. They had their run. They had some good songs. But certainly Stuart wearing a Winger shirt signaled the end of their kind of music's popularity. Kip Winger's band was not going to sustain any success regardless but this certainly pushed it over the edge. By the same token that show made White Zombie, showing what a powerful show it was.

I was being sarcastic. Not a fan of winger myself, but they had talent. I'm an artist myself, i can appreciate music for it's content. Personally Ive heard better music from unknown groups, they dont rely on commercialism, AND they are often more talented. Regardless, winger is too soft for me. If they were a little harder, they would have rocked.
I think Kip Winger got too wound up about B&B. Poison got far worst treatment than Winger at first, yet never complained . Part of it was that the 90s attitude was that 99.9% of what happened in the 80s sucked. Kip shouldn't have gotten so pissed off.
Still, some of the later video critiques went too far. Ripping on Poison and Winger at the time was expected, but they crossed a line when they slammed legends like Pink Floyd and Queen. By the time the show ended, all B&B liked was rap.

I am a player too, albeit not necessarily a great one, but this I do know! Kip Winger is one of the musicians who in my opinion has contributed greatly to virtuous side of rock music. You'll probably find that most people who diss him are either people who've never picked up an instrument or people who are just confused by melody (e.g : Death grunt disciples!)

You can label bands or artforms all you like, but it doesn't change the fact that the labels you seek to apply are just another form of generalization. Labels, I find, are convenient terms people use to understand things they're not well informed about. There are lots of bands and artists that morphed into something very different as time passed. The Police/Sting are an obvious example. Winger became more metal on their later works, often showing progressive influences, especially solo.

Im not at all much into glam and I doubt it will ever be my thing, but Winger is an incredible band and honestly when I first heard them I almost mistook them for Van Halen and couldnt believe that the band from Stuarts shirt couldve been that good. I think that Mike is being a fucking bitch to them. Reb Beach is an incredible guitarist and Kip Winger has wrote some pretty good stuff. Im not that much of a fan of them, but I give credit where it is due.

The thing that bugs me the most about how Winger was made fun of in Beavis and Butthead is that Winger was more masculine and heavy than most hair bands and never wore any makeup. They were also one of the most talented and versatile.

kip winger is a very talented musician. a lot of people hated on him because he was a good looking guy..not beautiful life myself :) attractive nonetheless. jim morrison was also a good looking guy but never got disrespected the way kip winger did. maybe a lot of it had to do with his image as being glam rock. most guys who sung those type of ballads were laughed at after it was over by the same people who once listened to it. but winger never disrespected the fans the way metallica did.

As a musician, it is obvious that Kip Winger and Reb Beach are the real deal and can are EXTREMELY versatile, playing anything from reggae to funk. Sorry but grunge was a 4 year phase and really didn't produce anyone apart from post 13 year old garage band talent. It was a pretty pathetic era only driven by dark image.

Gotta say this. Winger was picked on on the show. Metallica & AC/DC were looked at as the great, cool bands. Now, I think all three are great bands, but...I can't ignore the following facts. Winger's "Karma" was a killer album and different from a lot of their efforts. AC/DC's "Black Ice" sounded like every other AC/DC album and was pretty boring. Metallica's "Death Magnetic" was a decent, average album, but everything between it and the Black Album sucked. I think Winger came out on top.

Why Mike Judge didn't get his ass sued I have no idea. It wasn't just Winger at the time that was in question... it was the entire metal scene that shifted to grunge. But some bands prevailed. Winger could have solely on their talent, but B and B crushed any chance of that. They are slowly making a comeback through die hard fans, but to reach that height again is just an uphill battle. Glad they are still playing though.

It wasn't their logo so it limited their rights, plus he said suing a cartoon would have made them look like as big of jerks as Metallica. It really was a no-win situation for them and it's pathetic that this guy thinks this story about Kip is funny (though I'm not sure it's actually true).

@lappain And as I said, Kip Winger composes symphonies and stuff these days, one of his pieces was used for some huge ballet or something. Go listen to some of his solo stuff like that and then try to tell me he has no talent. Rod Morgenstein is now a professor at Berkelee, and Reb Beach was easily one of the best guitarists of the 80's. The band definitely had talent, and lots of it.

That said, my point was that whenever a band DOES look good you automatically get all these jealous male haters assuming that they MUST be talentless by default. EASYYYYY on calling Winger a "great" band. They had their run. They had some good songs. But certainly Stuart wearing a Winger shirt signaled the end of their kind of music's popularity. Kip Winger's band was not going to sustain any success regardless but this certainly pushed it over the edge. By the same token that show made White Zombie, showing what a powerful show it was.

I think Kip Winger got too wound up about B&B. Poison got far worst treatment than Winger at first, yet never complained . Part of it was that the 90s attitude was that 99.9% of what happened in the 80s sucked. Kip shouldn't have gotten so pissed off.
Still, some of the later video critiques went too far. Ripping on Poison and Winger at the time was expected, but they crossed a line when they slammed legends like Pink Floyd and Queen. By the time the show ended, all B&B liked was rap.

So we released the record and went out on the road and thats when the floor fell out from under us practically overnight. Some guy came to the bus with a copy of Beavis and Butthead and in it they hung a nerd up by his underwear while he wore his Winger t-shirt. They went to his house, and his loser family (including the dog) were all wearing Winger t-shirts.

Hi guys, sorry to butt in, but I've read a few posts on this debacle if you can call it that, and couldn't resist giving my 2 cents. I am a player too, albeit not necessarily a great one, but this I do know! Kip Winger is one of the musicians who in my opinion has contributed greatly to virtuous side of rock music. You'll probably find that most people who diss him are either people who've never picked up an instrument or people who are just confused by melody (e.g : Death grunt disciples!)

@edcahonis i was partially joking i like classical music and some melodic metal is great like emperor or cynic but all these metal guitarists are trying to do watered down melodic metalcore and it's starting to piss me off melody is good if you can keep heavy, emotive, catchy, but not this faggot mallcore all the kids at my school play
but it's also important to keep it raw and grindy look up whitehouse-dans i that is some music so groundbreaking kip winger would never be able to understand

You can label bands or artforms all you like, but it doesn't change the fact that the labels you seek to apply are just another form of generalization. Labels, I find, are convenient terms people use to understand things they're not well informed about. There are lots of bands and artists that morphed into something very different as time passed. The Police/Sting are an obvious example. Winger became more metal on their later works, often showing progressive influences, especially solo.

Nope, just a skilled musician that's sure sick and tired of all the bashing Kip takes for absolutely nothing worth bashing anyone for. I think he got the shaft from both the industry, the general public, as well as some media figures. I think a few of those were a bit jealous of his obvious over-the-top talent and genes. His career is a marquis example of all that's wrong with the industry, especially big labels. And those are the things have affected many guys just like me, and why I lurk.

I always thought it was ironic how in the show Beavis and Butthead were total losers but people listened to what they thought was cool. I like Beavis and Butthead but I am no sheep, I know Winger is an extremely talented band, and they write great catchy rock music.

I stopped caring about Mike Judge's opinion on music when he had his "metal-head" cartoon characters trash Accept, Judas Priest, and Overkill, but had them grooving to R.E.M. Sorry, but I knew kids like Beavis and Butt-head in High School; they all HATED R.E.M. (NOTE: I didn't say that I hated R.E.M.)

someone posted somewhere Mike Judge plays in a country band in his garage. I'd love to hear his demos so I can rip them to shreds. I just don't get how the music-listening public bought into a cartoonists musical critique. That's like asking your auto mechanic to diagnose your heart problem. Not all art can be "judged" reasonably by other artists, especially not by artists whose chosen medium has nothing to do with what he's talking about. But then again...
we had Bush for 8 years.

Seems like you've lost all objectivity. For all you know Mr. Judge's country music could be wonderfully composed and played with ample finesse and skill, yet you'd automatically tear it to shreds simply because he dared to express a musical viewpoint that you find disrespectful?
Anyway, both Kip and Winger have moved on and ahead (and will hopefully be recording a follow-up to IV in the near future). Let's all do the same.

Never. I'm ALWAYS objective about music, regardless of my tastes. My personal CD collection is ridiculously varied. Mike Judge
is highly unlikely to be a closet music genious. Why? Musical expression is something you can just closet. And if you're GOOD at it, AND CONNECTED in big media as he is, he'd have been pumping out records yearly.
I say I'd look forward to ripping his demos to shreds, realizing he likely doesn't have any, or they'd have found their way onto the net.

You still haven't explained who exactly is getting their musical taste fed to them from a decade old cartoon. King of the hill can suck my giant sweaty balls. I don't care about his narrow urethra or his mongoloid son. The only likable character is Dale, and occasionally boomhauer (sp?). To be honest I don't have hate or love for winger, I just thought it was funny that people are rushing to the defense of kip winger on a youtube video.

Mike Judge will never be able to understand Winger musical capacity. Those guys are awesome. I saw them live in Sydney, and they kick ass. Judge doesn't have idea about this.

Watching how so many of you take Mike Judge's comments way too seriously is both sad and hilarious. Both Judge and Winger are talented in their respective jobs (as in I have yet to see Mike Judge play on a kick-ass album like Pull and I have yet to see Winger manage a show as hilarious as Beavis and Butthead).

Whats winger doing these days,playn pubs n trying to get any work they can. They lasted about a year and all. Glam rock is the 80's version of the boy bands today. check out Kip's new solo record, it's an incredible body of work and shows Kip has really matured as a composer, and has become far more diverse in his abilities. He's the epitome of cool, from a musician's point of view. Anyone that can't dig something on From the Moon to the Sun is musically clueless and should stick to Metallica records.

Kip Winger and his bandmates had multi platinum success world wide. Kip had several post Winger solo Albums that were amazing and he still tours today. All of you haters may as well stay here on youtube because you have no talent! Reb Beach is a phenominal guitarist and is on tour with Dokken selling out stadiums everywhere he went! Stuart rocked for wearing a winger t-shirt! Most of you have no multi platinum albums let alone an instrurments, this music wasnt for everyone but judge is a loser!
