Celeon thanks for the photos. Werner had some neat pain designs. I used to have a model of his Tripe with the evil looking eyes over the engine cowling. He was one heck of a fighter pilot.
None the less, I enjoyed this film for at least protraying the original aircraft. The Ober Rotary engines that spun inide the cowling of the DR1. The plywood sheen on the Albatross and the sky blue Tri-plane of Voss that was streaked with a dark olive green.
The Swastika is a laregly spread symbol of luck. In WW 1 other pilots also used this symbol on their a/c, e.g. an Albatros D.II, an American SPAD XIII and a british Sopwith Camel with Swastikas on their fuselages and/or wings. Also the Swedish Count Rosen had a Swastika in his family arms and because he gifted the Finish flying corps their first aircraft, his Swastika in blue on a white disc become the first Finish national markings of Finish ac - see also the earlier markings of Latvian a/c
the swastika is a symbol of peace in the hindu religion but people demonised it after hitlers use of it no idea why they would have taken an original swastika out.
I think they've taken it out exactly for that reason. To cumbersome for them to actually teach the audience a bit of history in a movie about history.
Love story bullshit to get more women to watch it is more important to them.
They dont even try to teach something or clarify misunderstandings anymore.
Thats what pisses me off. They just circumvent the "danger area of misunderstanding" and have no problem with letting people stay historically uneducated.
excellent video and informative! thank you :)

svastika has nothing to do with nazi ideology, it was used by hitler, and hitler changed the meaning of that symbol....

Most people dont know that.
