  • Good video

  • my friend carved that buffalo, tom miller

  • Fuck the Indians. They should have been smarter.

  • Thank you for this....very very disturbing and enlightening at the same time. We have to accept our mistakes if we are to move forth in any way

  • My little cosin was unaware of the story behind the buffalo monument so she decided that the town just loved buffalo so much that they put a statue of one by the library. She's so cute xD

  • I grew up a block away from thar buffalo back in those day of the hangings mankato was named mahkato it became mankato from a printing error

  • it's SIBley not SILby.

  • Those were my ancesters And it was the lakota. they didnt give us food and we were starving to death and men stated to war and we lost and they brought us down to mankato and hung us!!!! gosh!!! all we wanted was for THE WHITE MAN TO FOLLOW UP ON THERE PROMISE!!! i was just there today i was saddd

  • For ur information creamfilling we do pay taxes n a whole butt

Load of em to boot idk how much money we've donated billions! We do our share up here! N yes mahkato is still widely recognized with the Dakotas we go every year for the memorial to remember those 38 men hung

  • Lies my teacher told me is now becoming clear to me.

  • So Lincoln killed 40 indians and half-breeds?

  • i am a direct decendent of shunka ska and baptist campbell

  • why do i doubt that the indians said "fuck em". too bad they couldn't add you to that list of those executed in mankato. if you aren't an expert, don't make videos and don't talk. im not an expert, but you are terrible at talking, especially when you are attempting to sound educated and high handed about any topic.

  • "I just wanted to start out by saying I'm not an expert on the subject" ...

Wait, wait, wait! Are you telling me the guy with a beard wearing a drity snake sweatshirt, Oakley's and a camouflage stocking cap isn't an expert? I don't believe it.

  • amazing how you can learn such an important thing at one of the best bars here in mankato.

seriously. the underground is the shit.

i applaud you for recognizing some local history of this little city that has a long past. i will be watching for more from you -- hopefully i can find some more videos that contain histories from other little cities that dont often make text books

  • I was all about this video until you said "War of northern aggression". which is a major history fail.

  • You're just a PC scrub OPCN18. I'm from Minnesota and I'm perfectly fine with it being called the War of Northern Aggression. The US declared and invaded. The CS defended when it all began.

That said, the 1st MN was bad ass.

If you can't accept that the Civil War has another name, you're an idiot.

  • @furtivegain Just because you are from Minnesota doesn't mean you can;t be wrong. The secession of the south happened before the start of war, and everyone knew that secession would lead to war irrevocably, it may as well have been a declaration of war, because it was in fact a rebellion. The confederate army even referred to themselves as rebels, yes REBELS.

Before you jump in to correct me keep in mind that I have read primary documents, so if you haven't you are just going to sound ignorant.

  • @opcn18

What are you talking about? How am I wrong? You have no argument to win. You're the ahole that jumps into random videos and calls people history fails, yet you and your 'primary document' knowledge can't see a war has multiple names to different people. It's nothing about credibility.

I don't care, I'm not arguing that it is or isn't called the civil war. I'm saying it's also called TWoNA and stated why. You're the history fail. Most wars in history have more than one name.

  • @furtivegain It was called that for propaganda purposes, you are spouting confederate propaganda. They misnamed it in order to rally their troops and you are continuing their dishonest work.

  • @furtivegain Who fired the first shot...

  • i live there

  • Thanks for doing/posting this. How can we prevent this in the future, you ask?...Thats a loaded question. There should be a Native branch of federal government. Will that ever happen? Not without [physical] aggression, I really believe. There is no easy solution, because the past was just extremely unjust. Try going to Bemidji...I can't step foot in that town again. The hate that whites have for the Natives TODAY in that town? Its unreal...Mankato is ideal compared to that place.

  • @NaaAdjoa are there any natives left up there? if there are, i suppose it pisses off the regular ppl cuz they can fish with no limits on possesion or season, and they get to run casino's without paying any tax.

  • @creamyfilling102 if you got you land stolin or was lied to, you wouldnt exspect to pay taxes or pay to hunt, fish and run casino's either would you?

  • Contract is null and void due to those whites being killed!

  • @BeantownJim what would you do if you was put on a small strip of land and was hungary and was told not to leave those lands that had no resources.. and for a human being being stingy about some eggs that can easily be replaced is down right evil.. so for them whites that got killed, even though thay had guns and the natives just had bows and arrows go to show who the real worriors are...

  • Nice history lesson, thanks for posting! I'm bummed I didn't get to meet you guys while you were in MN. Hope you make it back out here sometime.

  • I first heard about this on PBS's History Detectives Season 6 Episode 8 for those interested. It's an hour long investigation of a souvenir spoon commemorating the event. I don't normally watch PBS, but this story captivated me for an hour. Too bad I can't find the video online anywhere.

  • awesome video, thanks for this. there is a dark history here. I hope enough people can see the light.

  • Largest mass execution in the US, that the general pubic knows of...

  • i went thru there once....wish i saw all that...sad that corruption is everywhere and justice is hard to find.

  • Essentially they borrowed from the Indians and couldnt pay them back. Perhaps they thought that by purchasing the land and giving it to settlers it would stimulate the economy allowing them to have more revenue. But if the land was so valuable the settlers could have struck their own deal to by it. Im afraid Im going to get scalped by the Chinese when we cant pay them back.

  • When "we," pay them back. I never took a loan out from the chinese. I'm guessing you didn't either. When the Chinese send out their debt collectors. Send them to the doors of the politicians.

  • good shit pete

  • I want that hoody

  • Truth is a lot of people seem to want that hoody :) I've tried looking for it as a gift for my friend's bday coming up but haven't found it anywhere.

Really interesting video about property rights and the use of fraud, the issue touches on a lot of problems that may arise with the use of contracts. Good stuff.

  • What a horror and a war crime.

And today, Leonard Pelltier rots in jail
