@rawmac7 He didn't copy Elvis but being 3 years younger he was, like many other 1st generation Rock n' Rollers, inspired by El's rapid fire fast success. Ed, was actually, in a way much more inspired by Segovia, Ray Charles (he always praised Ray as a genius) and some other black artists (Penniman, J Wilson et al). But Eddie very fast created a style of his own, anyway after "Summertime Blues" was a hit. That teen anthem.

But he came on the scene a bit after the guys who are considered the founding fathers ( Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee, Carl Perkins, Bill Haley, Little Richard Fats Domino and Elvis) Had he lived, he would have been a huge star, and it's a shame that he is not as well known as he should be.

...yeah, don't know why Eddie Cochran isn't up there with Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Little Richard & Jerry Lee Lewis - but he's certainly one of early rock n' roll's architects. Also, when a teenage Paul McCartney met a teenage John Lennon for the first time at a village church fete, he played 'Twenty Flight Rock' to John who was suitably impressed Paul knew all the words and chords. McCartney has said many times "that song got me into The Beatles".
