Merger saves SIRI from being raped by STERN next contract, since 1/2 subscriptions aren't from STERN. SIRI won't have to launch replacement sats in 2015. XM's are new.
DoJ views MICRO competition between 2 lonely satrad companies as a deal killer, not MACRO economic issues like other competitors: IPOD, HD radio, terretrial radio, WIFI, etc. Those MACRO issues make sense, but this is a govt agency remember?
Merger DOA? Even if successful, it's worthless to the bottom line.

Nothing in the "merger" helps that issue. SIRI will still count subscriptions for cars unsold in parking lots, which during the Bush recession of 2007-9, will mount up quickly. SIRI buys the subscription itself, and passes the money through to car manufacturer, who then passes the same money back to SIRI while the listener pays nothing!
How does SIRI make money then? VOLUME! (According to Abbot & Costello's vaudeville routine.)

What about more subscriptions?
